Hello! I was happy to find this forum. I’m headed to Vegas soon and usually love staying at the Rio, which is closed and has had several reopening dates that have come and gone. Anyone know why? So, I’m staying at the Wynn. Any tips, suggestions, things to do there? Thanks!
I stayed at the Wynn a couple of months ago. One of the things that I highly recommend is eating at Lakeshore or SW Steakhouse and viewing the "Lake of Dreams" show. There is also seating if you just want to have a drink and not eat, but it fills up quickly.
Was in town last week and spent parts of two days there. Terrace Pointe cafe is nice, cocktails and snacks at Parosol Down is a nice late afternoon way to relax, my wife loves the spa if your into that.

Probably the best all-around resort in Vegas. Everything they do is just a little better than the competition. The dining experience at SW Steakhouse is one of the best around.
So when the Wynn opened, I stayed in a suite at the Plaza and then finished the last few days at Wynn. If it were the other way around, that would have really sucked. Back in the day, I LOVED the Rio. But like others have said, it’s like night and day. Have fun and enjoy!
I stopped by the Wynn recently on a stay at the Mirage... If you care about a safe and quiet experience then Wynn is the place for you. They metal detect, take pictures, and empty out pockets of everyone that enters the property.. But this means it's also dead. On a crazy Halloween weekend the Wynn Encore felt like it was a random Tuesday in Dec. So if you're looking for a fun party experience look elsewhere. But if you're looking for a quiet escape from everything then Wynn is great. Also because of the lack of crowd in there I didn't see many escorts soliciting around compared to when I was there precovid. But to be honest i think a lot of the aggressive crowd are just hanging outside and walking around the strip. The sidewalks were packed! but once you went inside any property it was nowhere near what you saw outside. The biggest crowd was on the harrah's to cromwell stretch and they placed tons of police cars on that side. None were needed on the Aria to Mirage side... If you're a CET player then Bally's/Paris can be a good option since those 2 properties are joined without having to walk outside and I can say that any property on the Ceasars Palace side is pretty tame compared.
I did something similar, but the wrong way. Way back I had a three night comp at GVR. Regular room, but flying solo that's fine. I stayed the first two nights with friends, then moved to GVR. I had a two nighter for Boulder Station, which since I was leaving at 8 on the second night, hence, booking GVR first. Great stay at GVR and then on to BS. I always liked BS for gambling and knew the rooms, but when I got to my room depression set in. I'm not picky on rooms as long as it's clean, but still. After I got settled, I poured a scotch, sat down and just enjoyed the view of the north parking lot and numerous used car lots in the distance. Hell, at GVR my only view was of the pool! Once I got down to the casino, played a bit and had a steak at the Broiler, things were fine. That initial bit of reality hit pretty hard though.

All I can add is 1) the Wynn is the best, just the best! 2) I walked around the casino in September midweek and early afternoon and the place was as slow and quiet as Ive ever seen it, and I’ve I stayed there 5 or 6 times and visited it often. It was really slow even for an afternoon, but it was very profitable for me, bought in for $500 and cashed out for $3000 half an hour later (they probably only had half the BJ tables open they normally have)!
The rumors have been flying for while now that the Rio is going to be sold. One speculation is that it will be torn down to make room for a new baseball facility. I was fortunate to spend 2 nights at the Wynn in February and I would describe it as "magical". It was just sooo nice (gambling sucked however), but I just felt so pampered there. Echo what everyone else has said, in that it really is just the best spot in Vegas. I've so wanted to read these, but have been saving them as an appetiser for my now cancelled trip. I may just use them to console myself later this month now
Sorry your trip was canceled . Like me ,a vicarious experience will have to do for now. Those trip reports had me thinking Covid be damned and head out in early Dec. Unfortunately , my dog just had surgery for pancreatic cancer so I can't leave her with anyone. So I'll keep reading the TRs.
Means I can start Xmas early, and indulge virtually for a few more months. We lost our last dog to cancer, wretched disease. Hope she recovers soonest and without complications.
