Does anyone use this? Does anyone know how to turn off the banner that is constantly on? I have the logo in my tray so I guess I could just delete the program, but I don't want to mess the deletion up.

I know the techie guys have successfully either disabled it or removed it. I'll ask on Monday exactly how to do it.

If you're running the latest version of Windows 10, the new Edge browser which came out earlier this year is based on Google's chromium engine, so it's completely different from the older Edge browsers which sucked. Chromium is open source, so Microsoft added their own touches to the new Edge, but it supports a lot of the Google Chrome extensions too.

If you prefer Chrome or another browser over Edge, just make sure you don't have Edge set as the default browser otherwise whenever you click on a link, it will launch Edge. You don't have to uninstall Edge to get rid of the shortcut icons/banners, but you can unpin them from the start menu, taskbar, etc. so they'll be out of sight ...just right click on the Edge icons and select "unpin".

I wonder if the OP is referring to the banner that encourages you to switch to Edge.
I use Chrome and EVERY time I open it, there is a pop up from Windows that wants me to switch. It is annoying!
Edge was terrible when it first came out, to replace IE.
The new Edge is now based on Chrome. I'll stick with the original.

I used Edge, but don't have - or recognize - a 'banner that is constantly on' regardless of which tab I have open. There are some items in settings that you might be referring to (e.g. show favorites, show collections, show feedback) which you just toggle off-and-on. Navigate to edge/settings/appearance and see if this cures the issue.

Are you talking about that big banner / inspirational scene / list of apps thing at the top, just under the search bar?
Over on the far right, you'll see the 'gear' icon for settings. If you click that, the page layout menu appears. It lists focused, inspirational, informational...
There's also a 'custom' option. Select that custom option. The next popup menu to look at is 'background'. Select the 'off' option (as opposed to the image of the day, your own image, custom image options, one of which might already be set to on). Next time you start Edge, all of that stuff is gone (the banner with the apps and picture, etc.).

Ok, here's what he said, and this is more or less a direct quote.

"All we really do is make Firefox the default browser and hide the Edge icon."

Sorry it's not any more technically explicit.

I primarily use Firefox, but keep Chrome and Edge on my system. Internet Explorer, as well. Unfortunately, some of the sites and programs I use don't play nice with anything but one specific browser.

I'm more of a Mac guy so I use Safari a majority of the time, although I switch over to Chrome for those sites that don't play nice with Safari. I've also been using Edge on my Windows 10 gaming PC, since the new version came out to see how it compared to Chrome. So far, I think Chrome still has the "edge" over Edge. LOL

As far as I know Duckduckgo doesn't have a standalone web browser for PC or Mac, but they have a mobile privacy browser app for iOS and Android. For PC and Mac, Duckduckgo has an extension that you can add on to Safari, Chrome, etc. called Privacy Essentials which adds on a number of setting to protect your privacy while browsing the web. I use it with Safari for Mac.
