The thread about playing low at the tables to generate comps : https://www.vegasmessageboard.com/forums/index.php?threads/does-playing-very-low-at-the-tables-generate-comps.178517/ got me to thinking.......

On my last trip to The D, I played almost exclusively craps, but the vast majority of my betting was just pass line and odds. I wasn't placing points, hardways, come bets, etc, regularly. My comps were nowhere near what I thought they'd be and now I'm seeing this may be why - I really didn't generate a lot of action for them with just the pass line/odds betting.

While I'd never play for comps, as someone who has found craps later in life, I am interested in general rules of thumb to maximize comp value. If I'm going to bet say, $50 per roll, perhaps there are better ways to wager that which will provide more comp value.

    Thanks for the insights/tips/advice!

As a general rule most casinos don’t count your odds bet so they will rate you on your pass line bet only.

If your goal is to maximize your comps at craps, make the largest bets you are comfortable making at the bets with a highest HA (e.g., the middle bets, especially the prop wagers)

I agree with what @Hogman and @UKFanatic said, but when it comes to craps, trying to maximize comps via betting strategy is counter to just about everything good about the game.

I'd say the #1 thing to do is just make sure you got rated fairly when you color up. Which shouldn't be an issue if you play the way you describe, which sounds pretty consistent and uncomplicated.

If you're at a place where there's one boxman rotating among several tables, you can try to influence your rating slightly by trying to bet a little bigger (or throwing some on the carny bets) when he's updating things.

But at $50/hand there isn't much you can do.

If you bet the entire $50 on the pass line and they give you the full 1.41% theo on it and they have it pegged to 100 hands an hour (which would be fast), you're generating

    $50 * 100 * .0141 * 0.33 = $23.27 an hour in comp value.

If you're at a $10 table and your only bet is $10 on the pass line plus odds, it's about $4.65 an hour.

I agree absolutely. I was only trying to answer the OP's question. I would never play the way I suggested (hop bets and horns can suck your bankroll dry really fast). But that is the best way to maximize the comps you get

I try to increase my comps using this strategy:
Pass line with 3x odds. When the point is established I'll place $30 on the 6 OR the 8, whichever is closer to the point. So, point of 4 or 5 I place the 6, point of 10 or 9 I place the 8. Point of 6 or 8 I place the the 8 or 6. One pass line and one place bet. After that I may make a come bet. That gets me a rating of about $50 per roll.

Tip, tip tip. Make a big deal when one of your hard ways hits. Play the up top numbers. Be polite. Bet heavier when the pit boss is doing his scan. Press bets when he isn’t scanning. They don’t come on pressed bets, but if you press when he isn’t looking, looks like an original bet

I’d just play for fun. Craps has a tendency to get rated incorrectly.

This said, tip the dealers. And ask before you’re done how they are rating you.

I believe Paris is the only CET property that rates your PL odds.

Yes, all being said and done, craps is just about the worst game to play if you're looking for comps...unless you place about $300/roll on the board. Any other game will rate better. Personally, I count on my vp play to get the bulk of my ratings.

If you are comfortable with having $50 total at risk per roll, then, stay at that limit, but sprinkle in a few "two-way bets" involving the dealers....for as little as $2...call out a two way hardway bet, hopping bet or yo bet....win or lose, the crew/pit boss are more likely to remember you in a favorable manner regarding your rating...

ALL this is great advice and is exactly why I asked.

I absolutely get the math from the casino’s point of view. It just sucks that my favorite game is the least favorite in which to earn comps.

    But, such is life.

As someone who has been rated anywhere from 450 a roll average in AC to 1100 a roll in KC and NOla, all i can tell you is that I have lost a ton of money, likely far more than a slot player would for the same "coin in" as the dice can be pretty cruel at times- and have received some pretty substandard offers. Yes I get room comps and they would likely take care of backend but I have too many RC for the backend. My offers are not per say bad but I feel they should be a heck of a lot better.

I risk about $145 per roll and from what I can tell, I make 100 TR points per hour.

Note, the points I get fluctuates wildly. The number I gave above is just the average.

I find it to be random with who is at the table recording my action

It’s tough to accurately rate craps....a gamble in itself....

They log you in....put down your average bet (at best).

Winning $$$$ is the key. Walking away when your up (a decent amount) gets you rated higher.

The Cromwell included my odds bets in my rating back in March.

im not sure this is true, I think they care a lot more about average bet and time at the table vs winning/losing

The pit boss records your buy in, your average starting bet, how much you leave with. I’m almost certain that the algorithms do the rest.

I can’t play craps for long stretches. My highest ratings have been when I’ve won quickly and moved on. Even though I play the same way each roll. Each trip.

I can only pass along my experiences...

That could be accurate based on how you play.
A $10 pass line player who takes $50 odds will be rated as a &10 player even though they had $60 in action.
If the same player placed the 6&8 for $30 ea ,they would be rated at $60.
You would be giving up a small % in House advantage but possibly picking it up on the backend in comps.
Flat betting BJ players will take the worst of it on theo and comps.

A few years ago a former member of this board posted what he was told by his host the theo generated in table games on average.
He used theo generated by betting an average of $1000 per hour.
I’ll change it to $100 average bet.
    Craps $76
    BJ $52
    Roulette $178

There will be variations based on type of play but for ballpark ,I think it’s not far off.
