A few more Labor Day Weekend musings. Late Sunday afternoon we made our way over to Gardner’s Basin as we wanted to grab a mason jar cocktail at Back Bay Ale House. There was an hour wait for a table and “to go” cocktails were being sold at Back Bay’s “Cargo Bar” adjacent to Fish Heads, a local take out joint. Lots of folks had the same idea, it was a perfect afternoon, a nice breeze, full on sunshine, not too hot. We sat on the bulkhead and sort of people watched: a house boat was docked nearby and playing music, a wedding or bachelor party disembarked from party boat and everyone was dressed in white, folks from all walks of life coming out to enjoy the gorgeous weather. Most folks wore masks and it was not overly crowded, we felt comfortable.

After having our cocktails, we headed over to Borgata, it was my first visit in 7 months. I had some free play and also a $25 match play from MyVegas. We parked on the 4th Floor and decided to take the stairs after seeing a couple full elevator cars due to the 4 person limit. As others have mentioned, the Borgata seems to have it together with temperature scans, plenty of hand sanitizer dispensers, and cleaning protocol. I went to use my match play at Roulette and the dealer wouldn’t take my bet as my spot on the table had just been vacated and had not been cleaned. Eventually one of the pit bosses came over and wiped my spot. Roulette tables are partitioned and allow for 4 players. Some young knucklehead tried to squeeze in a bet to my left and the dealer didn’t take the bet.

I played some nickel 5 hand hot roll poker and caught a cocktail waitress passing by and ordered a Black Russian, it came pretty fast and was served in a real glass. I was surprised the B Bar was closed.

This morning I stopped by Tropicana to pick up freeplay, but it doesn’t post until 2 pm. I thought I received an e-mail claiming that freeplay is available after 10 am, but I was wrong. I played a little VP at 10 North Bar and had a Bloody Mary, the bartender took the drink order as the “on screen” ordering system was disabled. It was a decent pour, but served in a plastic glass. I made a quick stop at Caesars for some VP and the drink ordering system was pretty fast, ordered coffee. The waitresses cover all drinks with coasters, an extra precaution I suppose.

And I made it to the White House for a WH Special, my wife and I split a half for dinner one night. It was so overstuffed, I could have used a bigger mouth. Sorry to tempt you @LB9.

I showed this to my father in law, funny story he had about the White House you may get a kick out of. Long and short, he worked for the state of NJ in Camden and his boss at one point asked if anyone wanted to do lunch, well, they suggested the White House which was a mere hour and change away..each way. So, apparently they took a state car, drove down to AC just to get hoagies at the White House and drove back. Did their boss care? Nope, she got a free cheesesteak out of it lol.

Ever since that story 5 years ago, and after I tried WH for the first time, I've been hooked.

This photo is about two weeks old, there has been more progress on this part of the old Plaza. This machine is enormous, look at the two workers in relation to the track on this high reach excavator fitted with a shear or a hammer. This boom allows for a reach of close to 100'. The main tower will be imploded, but the lower parts will be demolished using this behemoth. The shear will snap steel beams like a twig.

Does anyone have a recommendation for a casino spa on the Boardwalk? The wifey and I were thinking about treating ourselves to a couples massage while we are visiting in November.

Exhale Spa at Ocean should be good. It's an upscale spa with branches in many places, including NYC. If willing to go to to the Marina area, Borgata's spa is pretty good.

We had a couples massage at Hard Rock via Groupon back in November, first one for both of us. We both enjoyed it.

We ended up choosing the spa at Hard Rock because they use rock music during massage therapies. Like they use the vibrations from the audio for part of the massage. That sounds super cool. We don't know where we are going to play yet. We're probably going to stick around the Boardwalk area. We're renting a beach house between Caesars and Tropicana. I guess we'll play it by ear. Since we aren't staying at a casino, we don't need to play any certain amount for a comp or anything like that.

When are you going again? A bunch of VMBers will be there in 2 weeks (Oct 16/17), would love for you to join if you're interested.

Thanks for the invite but we're going in November. It's to celebrate my wife and my birthdays. Our birthdays are 8 days apart and that weekend falls right between them.

I couldn’t find the answer to this question, and the customer support email is taking too long.

I have an mlife credit card. Will the accrued points work at Borgata?

This might be a dumb question, but I thought they had a different rewards program and maybe that meant my credit card rewards/points would not work at Borgata.

Anybody know where you can use reward credits for dining at Tropicana AC? I was thinking about using some reward credits I got on my last trip for some tacos in their Marketplace.

I’m going to qualify my reply by saying “probably”.

Were you thinking about Casa Taco and Tequila Bar? I know they accepted comp $$ in the past; we went there for Breakfast which was awesome. You will need to get a new “Local” card at the rewards desk and then link it to your Total Rewards account. https://www.caesars.com/myrewards/promotions/caesars-rewards-local

I had Copper status at Tropicana so my new Caesars Rewards Local card is Platinum. I haven’t linked the two accounts and I have yet to use any comps at Tropicana.

BTW, I picked up a gift of an automotive air pump about two weeks ago at Tropicana, then “no played” Tropicana, now my $15 per day free play is gone. Rats!

In case you need some provisions during your trip, there is a Walgreens on Atlantic Ave, a few blocks south of Tropicana and an Acme grocery store in Ventnor, maybe 3 miles from Trop.

Thanks for the info. Much appreciated. I made copper there when I played there last year and they kept my status due to COVID shutting everything down for a while, so I guess I'm Platinum now. I have some offers from Tropicana too, so I figured we'd spend some time playing over there since it is down the block from the beach house we are renting just off the Boardwalk. Caesars is nice, but their restaurants are so expensive. They wanted $33 for fish and chips at the Gordon Ramsay Pub. I can go to the Irish Pub and get it for much more reasonably priced and the Irish Pub is an authentic Prohibition speakeasy too.

Speaking of Prohibition, we're planning to do one of the Nucky Tours of the Prohibition Era ghost sites around the Boardwalk. That should be fun.

Never been, but the Chelsea Five Gastropub at Tropicana gets great reviews and on Monday and Thursday they have a $25 prime rib special. Steak and Eggs @ $10 Monday, Thursday, Friday 8 am to 2 pm. By the way, I read that Morton's and Harry's Oyster House now accept comp dollars 1:1. McCormick and Schmicks at Harrah's offers happy hour specials but I hear the room fills up fast due to limited seating.

I just read that The Continental and Buddakan have permanently closed; damn, never made it to either happy hour. That will pretty much be the death knell for the pier across from Caesars since Souzai and Phillips Seafood have also closed.

I'll check out the Chelsea Five while we're there. I like a good gastropub. It's a shame that Blatstein failed so badly with Playground Pier. I thought his idea for T-Street with all the music venues was good. He just didn't try very hard with it. We repeatedly tried to go there to hear music and it was always closed. Even on Saturday nights. I think Caesars owns the pier again, so maybe they will develop it better.

The pier is amazingly one of the worst failures in AC ever. I get it that malls fail. Especially when they opened the outlets a few blocks away.

I can’t believe that no one can make it work as a restaurant, bar or entertainment venue.

I think part of the problem with running it as an upscale mall is that Caesars doesn't really attract the upscale clientele anymore. They haven't really updated their gaming product or kept up with property to the level of something like the Borgata or even Ocean, so they don't really have the level of high rollers coming in that would keep that mall going. Changing it to music venues is the best idea but if they are going to do that, then they need to actually have the venues open with music on the premises. Blatstein turned out to be such a disappointment.

I just learned that the comedy club at the Tropicana is open. Has anyone been there before? I thought no shows at all were available under the current circumstances, but that could be fun. I always enjoy comedy shows and I've been to a few at the Borgata.
