    My Trip Report

    Hey guys!

So I didn't expect to be doing a trip report this year given the current situation of the world but here I am.

A little backstory: We were supposed to head to my home state of Maine in May to visit my mom, but COVID put and end to that. We regrouped and took a week off in October to redo the visit, thinking by then the world wouldn't be such a dumpster fire, but um..yeah.

Mom ended up passing away at the end of August so the option to visit her wasn't on the table any longer. BTW, she was an HUGE fan of Vegas and would totally approve of this trip.

With no option to visit mom, this being our 20 year anniversary and having been cooped up for several months, we decided to take a very careful trip to Vegas to renew our vows.

I know I've told this story before, but Vegas is significant to us because that is where we met in 1999 and then got married a year later. We used to live in Phoenix so road trips to Vegas were a very frequent thing for us until we moved out here to Cali 15 years ago.

I am not trying to bring politics or otherwise current events into my trip report, but I am very scared of COVID for many reasons and was not sure about this trip. Many talks with my husband assured me that we could do this and do it safely.

First things first: We will be driving, so we will not be exposed to anyone else in the travel portion of our trip,
We will not be hotel hopping like we normally do on our trips. We will stay at Harrah's the entire time and not utilize housekeeping,
I have my own sanitation routine that I will use when we get there to make me feel safe,
We will limit our escapades to weekdays when things are slower and won't have to worry as much about the unmasked population.

For the days that we stay in the room, we have a slew of stuff planned to keep us busy:
We are going to take an online painting class,
We have a Las Vegas puzzle to put together,
We also have a Las Vegas Lego set to put together,
    I have adult coloring books,
Hubs has an RC Car kit to put together,
We have a guitar body to paint (Hubs is a guitarist),
We have a ton of movies on my laptop and a ROKU stick to utilize...we don't usually watch many movies or much TV so this might be nice and relaxing,
I have many books to read.

One might ask us why we are even going to Vegas, and to that I would say: See above about how we met and got married. Vegas is very much a part of us and it would feel weird to not have it be part of our 20 year anniversary.

For the vow renewal, we have rented Counterfeit Elvis from @alanleroy 's trip report and also a photographer but other than that it will just be a couple of friends and anyone that might want to meet us from VMB at the Las Vegas Sign early on Monday morning to have a quick ten minute silly ceremony.

Other than that, we plan on doing a lot of take out. Hopefully meeting up with @MikeOPensacola and @Flowers at some point outdoors for drinks. Anyone who would be in town that might want to meet up socially distanced outside, hit me up. We aren't totally afraid to see other people...just cautious.

Okay, so that is all I have for now...

We will drop the pooches off tomorrow morning and head out. I will post the usual beige road pics and then go from there.

    Wish us luck!!

Good luck and have a great time. My wife and I renewed our vows in 2008 at the little white chapel, time goes so fast but it will give you memories that will be forever. Sorry for your loss.

    Thanks you guys!
I guess I should ask as the trip report grows...does anyone care about seeing our in hotel room stuff? Not like that you dirty minds! ;)
But like does anyone think I should post the pics of our paintings and puzzles? Or will that just bore you to tears? Let me know before I get there so I don't make a mistake.

Following along - the vow renewal sounds really fun and special  I am sure your mom will be there in memory/heart/spirit  Whichever way of doing Vegas that makes you feel good and sufficiently safe is the right way, especially now :) Have a fun safe time and get you a handpay or three :jester:

Heck yes on the PG in room entertainment.

    Especially the lego & car.

Now I want to bring projects, I think I will redo my slightly dinged up phone screen protector..

I definitely won’t be taking this 3D wood safe puzzle I have been working on there, got this far, :eek:realized I put the front on upside down, now need to disassemble several steps.

:mad:It’s one frustrated moment away from being smashed to bits:mad:

    .
 missed the part of the damn assembly instruction where they showed front side orientation.

Thanks everyone. We are officially on the road after dropping of the pooches.

Whole lotta road to go but I’m excited to be on our way.
Much like the last two days it’s pretty smoky out here today.

Good for you....know this get-a-way will do you both good after the craziness & sadness....so sorry you lost your Mother...that is a tough one..... I ended up making my end of Aug trip & so glad I did....after being so isolated for so long & loosing so many family members....I just knew I needed the trip for my sanity. I knew the restrictions and was willing to keep up my crazy process of protecting myself while there....well. it worked fine as I am sure you will as well. Best of luck & focus on all the nice VMB folks you will see & enjoying our fav city even if it is somewhat different. Looking forward to your posts & pics!!
