    My Trip Report

I'm headed back to the Wynn and I couldn't be happier. The fountain there is my absolute favorite spot in Vegas so I thought I would start off with that. I'll be out there every night taking in the lit up fountain and enjoying the great background music, and it can't come soon enough.

This is the most impulsive Vegas trip I’ve made since the early 80s. A week ago, I decided to scrap my Christmas trip and swap it out for a trip over the next ten days, one of which is my birthday. The big 58 is not exactly a landmark birthday, but I thought it would be more than a little bit of fun to spend that time at Wynn and see if I can get a complimentary dessert...lol. The last time that I was in the Valley during September/October was about 20 years ago, a 28-day binge at Mirage that fills those Vegas droughts with some absolutely incredible memories. The birthday thing didn’t play that big of a part in my change of plans; in the end it all came down to one thing. Pool time. What got me thinking of changing my plans was that during my scheduled trip to Encore in December I really wouldn’t have been able to maximize the value of my stay by not being able to lounge around at the pool. I can definitely do that in September and October though. Presto, problem solved.

Normally, I plan for my Vegas trips about six months in advance so, this past week has been a little hectic with all the last-minute travel prep. It feels like I’ve been busier than a one-legged man in an ass kicking contest but now that Vegas Eve is here I’m relaxed as I ever get. I’m finally ready to get on my horse with a big “Giddy Up” and hit the trail to my favorite oasis in the Mojave.

I really do not know what to expect this time around and, in all honesty, I am completely fine with that. Like everyone else here, I’ve been mentally preparing myself for a watered-down Vegas for many months now. I think with the bar set relatively low going into it I won’t have too many disappointments. The only certainties for the next week or so will be finding a lounger in a shady spot each morning, Mai Tais, and enjoying some world class dining. Just getting away from the infernal “Groundhog Day” routine at home is its own reward so anything beyond that is pure gravy.

I’ll be trying to manage this trip as safely as I can and I’ll definitely be paring down my usual Vegas romps. With all the craziness on the strip I made it a point to be there for only one weekend. Hopefully I’ll be able to get out and about a little bit but, if not, there are worse places to be tethered than the Wynn. When I started to plan for this trip I decided to stay at either extreme of the strip. I was torn between staying at Delano and Wynn. Since I have a two-week trip booked for Mandalay Bay next June I opted for Wynn. Staying there is great; the Tower Suites is a very nice cherry on top.

I really don’t have a whole lot planned. The only things that I can really think of off the top of my head are:

    · I have a chip that I have been waiting for YEARS to find and Spinettis finally came through!!! Can’t wait to go pick it up and maybe hit up Fremont St.

    · Depending on how Uber is running I really want to get out to Red Rock Resort. I’ve never been there and I think that would be a nice way to get away from the hustle and bustle of the strip for a while.

    · I have spent very little time at Mandalay Bay so I want to Uber there and do a little scouting for next summer.

    · Get down to Resorts World and take some pics at night of the light show that they have going on the exterior of the hotel. I’ll also take some pics of the finishing touches at Circa if I make it to Fremont St.

If I don’t get a lot of gambling in this trip it won’t be the end of the world. Wynn slots are pretty tight, at least for me they have been, and I don’t envision myself doing any of those strip walks where I hit up most of the casinos on the strip. Besides a recon mission to Mandalay Bay, I would be really surprised if I make it further south than Caesars or, possibly, Bellagio. It’s hard for me to imagine a trip to Vegas without at least a stop and go at Cosmo but it probably won’t be in the cards this time around. Missing out on China Poblano and Momofuku is going to hurt like hell but that’ll make my next visits to those eateries all the more enjoyable. If I go to Fremont Street it will definitely be on a weekday before the evening sets in. Oscar’s at the Plaza would be nice but I’ll have to wait and see.

I’ll be paying full freight at Wynn but, I’ll be saving a good amount of money compared to the Christmas trip that I substituted this one for. I’ll never get any meaningful comps at Wynn, but, to be honest, as long as I keep getting those Wynn Insider offers I’ll be more than happy. Every once in a while, I’ll stumble on a good deal and this was definitely one of those occasions. That being said, there is one night where the room rate is so absurd that all I can do is smile, shake my head and move past it. On the other hand, I really lucked out with Delta. I didn’t have to pay a ticket change fee and I actually got a small refund. BTW, I asked the Delta phone rep about seat spacing and she told me that they are only seating first class at 50%, every passenger will have an empty seat next to them, and all middle seats in the main cabin will remain empty until at least January 1.

Right now, I have dinner plans for LAVO, Sinatra, Allegro, Wazuzu and a lunch or two at Charlies. I’ll enjoy a nice breakfast on the terrace each morning at Terrace Point Café.

There is also a little taco joint just north of Encore called Tacos El Gordo. I’ve read some nice things about it here on VMB so I’ll definitely give it a whirl for lunch one day. I’m also going to hit up Lindo Michoacán with @FormallyTD as well.

One of the many great things about the Tower Suites is that I’ll get a $50 breakfast credit each morning. From looking at the pics from my summer of 2019 TR it looks like I had some awesome breakfasts so I suppose it will be more of the same this time as well. My game plan is to gorge myself on massive breakfasts, sleep off the food coma at the pool each day, and then have a nice dinner each evening.

Most of my gambling will be pre and post dinner, and mostly slots. I love Wynn but one of only two beefs I have with them is they fail miserably in getting new slot games. But, between Wynn and Encore there should be enough slots for me to lose the lion’s share of my BR…lol. I’m also going to play some roulette. For whatever reason I’ve always had good luck at Wynn’s roulette tables. Of course, having said that I just put the whammy on myself.

There are a lot of VMBers in town and right now I have plans to meet:

    · @Flowers
    · @FormallyTD
    · @Champster1
    · @cvkelz (renewal of wedding vows at the Fabulous Las Vegas sign)
    · @EastCoastVegasFan! (very early morning craps at GVR or Wynn)
    · @Chuck2009x Hopefully our paths will cross if he is in town.

Unfortunately, the spas at Wynn/Encore are closed – at least the sauna and steam room portions. That is a bit of a bummer but since the weather is so nice that just means more pool time with an occasional poolside breakfast.

At any rate, I’ll be sure to post tons o’ food, Wynn/Encore, neon, slot & hopefully chip porn. Who knows, the way the strip has been running lately there might even be some “porn” porn. There will probably be lots of downtime this trip so I’ll be posting more pics than in past TRs. I’ll also make it a point to give my observations about all the recently implemented adjustments wherever I happen to go. As always, if anyone has anything you want me check out while I’m in Vegas feel free to ask and I’ll do my best to get an answer for you. I won’t be quite as mobile, as in previous trips, but I’ll still get my fair share of sight-seeing in. I’d also like to say thanks to all of VMB Nation for all the valuable posts and TRs regarding the conditions in Vegas right now. VMB is such a great resource, but, IMHO, never more so than now. Big thumbs up to everyone here.

All that’s left on my TTD list is to pop in the greatest gambling movie ever made, “Let it Ride”, a 20+ year tradition on Vegas Eve. (I know I mention this in just about every TR, but it’s become ingrained in my Vegas DNA)

    6007346D-F5D7-48FE-A83D-0D34F047175E.jpeg

Anyway, next up is McCarran, a limo ride to Walgreens, a short hop to the Wynn and a Sinatra Smash to set the tone for the next 11 days.

If you’ve made it this far thanks for tagging along and I’ll see you from Fabulous Las Vegas.

I'll be following along. I love those fountains at Wynn also. When I was there a couple of weeks ago, the fountains were on but no music was playing. I hope the music has returned when you get there. Have fun, enjoy and thanks for sharing your trip.

Have a fabulous trip. I’m there similar days and hopefully we can connect if you come downtown. I plan to spend some quality time at Wynn pool Tuesday morning and promise not to throw a snickers in the water.

I most definitely will. There have been a few recent outstanding Wynn TRs which have really helped me out so I'll be sure to post what I observe at Wynn, and elsewhere, on a regular basis.

I’m curious what the table limits are at the various craps tables. Particularly Encore, Flamingo, Harrahs, Mirage and Westgate Doubt youll get to the Tropicana But if you do that would be helpful too.

I’ll keep my eyes open and gladly report back. I won’t make it to Westgate or the Trop but Encore, Flamingo, Harrah’s and Mirage should be no problem. The only thing is that I’ll be at those places during the day so I won’t have any reliable intel about the nightly craps minimums. Still, I’ll chime in with anything/everything I see about table minimums.
