How is everyone handling this event this year? We are leaning toward no lights on and no giving out candies.

Banned here. The local K of C and Lions Clubs are setting up a drive up/walk up system for kids to get a bag of goodies.

From what I understand, it is still supposed to happen as usual on 10/31 here in WI, but I am sure they will change that sometime before then.

Our kids are grown and gone, so we stopped handing out candy several years ago, and this year won't be any different.

We have not had a single trick or treater in our 25 years here.

Too low of a yield for the energy required.

We've not really thought about it. Maybe we'll sit in the driveway with some cold ones and toss Snickers at the kids.

For the past dozen plus years, I've been in Vegas during Halloween. Not so much for anything special going on there, but just to get away from here. If I stay home, I'd probably cower with the lights off or have to pass out goodies to the little beggars. Worse yet, I'd buy 100 lbs. of candy, give out a few pieces, and then eat the rest. Far better for my waist, teeth, and wallet just to go to Vegas. This year, I'll cower!

Haven't had TorTers since we moved to the country 20 years ago. Not expecting any this year, won't answer the door if any show up.....

I usually take the night off and do the casino, but I don't know about this year. I'll prolly turn off the lights and pretend I'm not in.

We usually turn the light off then go eat out with our BIL and SIL. By the time we get back trick or treat is over.

This year we will probably turn off the lights and stay home, hoping the kids understand what no lights mean.

But because Halloween falls on a Sat. this year, we will buy some candy because it usually is busier when it falls on a weekend. Even with the lights out it's hard to ignore the cute little pirate or princess that shows up at the door in the dark.

I dunno. Maybe they (governor and mayor) will advise no trick or treating this year. In my opinion they should. But I'll buy some snickers anyway since I like to eat those in case nobody shows up.:p

We live in a suburb of Cleveland Ohio and as of now it is still on. Our kids are teenagers so they won’t go trick or treating anyway, and we probably wont hand out this year. We normally put out some lights and decorations as daughter likes it, but if we aren’t handing out candy probably won’t do any.

I don't think they are doing it here. I'm pretty sure I heard that they are doing a thing downtown for the kids to get some candy though.

We live out where driveways are long. I haven't had a trick of treater here since our neighbor with little kids moved away in 2005.

We normally go all out and make a haunted house in our garage complete with smoke machine, etc etc. I will try and find some pictures just to lighten the mood of the thread (pretty down, although truthful). 2 years ago the weather was absolutely fantastic and virtually no kids came. Even the ones that have dragged their parents to our place year after year because they remembered our setup. Maybe they've grown and don't go out or maybe we are just getting old... Then last year we decided to do almost nothing and even less kids came. I haven't heard what is happening this year but I can imagine if things don't improve it might be all but canceled or significantly discouraged. With that said we will have some candy for the little ones either way. Although we won't be decorating. Given that it is a Saturday we actually might go fall camping anyway.

trick or treaters has been dying out here for a while now as all the neighborhood kids are now Millennials. We have been going "dark" for quite a few years now as we just don't need all the leftover candy for the 1-2 kids who may ring the doorbell

My condo is in a security building, so no unauthorized persons can enter. So, we don't have any trick or treaters coming around. In regards to Chicago, I haven't heard whether our mayor has restricted trick or treating or not, but if I were a parent, I wouldn't want my kids to go out trick or treating during a pandemic.

No reason to break from decades of tradition here at the ranch.

I live on a double cul-de-sac, so even on a good year we hardly see anyone. I still plan to hand out candy to anyone that shows up, though. Our county has said they can't (won't) ban Halloween. While haunted mazes and such have been canceled, I imagine churches will still have some sort of event.
