Spirit Mountain - Bet MGM is Open

This is going to be short, more of a PSA.

I could not stand staying in the house any longer. After weeks of debate, I popped into Spirit Mountain with my really good mask.

Bet MGM was on its opening day. I'm a total newb here. I have never been to or participated in Sportsbook at all. I don't even really watch sports. I'm sure at this point someone is laughing, but that's OK.

After making a donation to VP, which had been generous, but no 4oak after a while is disheartening, and forgetting all my strategies and I'm sure ruining my payback, I fumbled over to Sportsbook and met an equally new person working on her first day. The two of us being the only women in this part of the house, she explained the Moneyline and Straight Bet to me and we both laughed at our inexperience. I bet on one game that day and a few that were coming up that week.

I sat down and watched a baseball game on the biggest screen, and while I'm not an expert, I found it very interesting and soothing. Its a great afternoon escape. It was the most relaxing 2 hours I've had in weeks. Not only can you watch the TVs in comfortable chairs, but early Friday afternoon, there is no one there, and I imagine that won't last for long. Its nicer than going to the stadium and sitting in the hard chairs for hours.

Moreover, when you hit the local watering hole on Friday night, its an added element of excitement to have some skin in the game. I plan on running some stat numbers this week and perhaps heading back in two weeks more prepared. As an unschooled sports observer, I have no selection bias and I think that will work to my advantage. I get why people like this and it's popular.

Highly recommend. But not too much, leave a chair for me on Friday afternoon.

 

Yeah, I'm much more into sportsbetting now since it became legal in Illinois and Indiana. But I'm trying to use math to prevent me from going too nuts over it. Lol

But even having a small stake in the game can make it more exciting. I made a parlay with the Knights where they needed to win by 2 or more tonight. They held on 5-3 while killing off a delay of game penalty caused by the Vegas goalie late. Hopefully my other two legs go just as well!

 

That is good news! I have been asking about this place since college football started and nfl in a couple of weeks.

You mentioned chair. Is that with a table or all by itself? I believe this place would be classified as a restaurant and if you had food and drink in front of you no need to wear a mask. Trying to find a place to watch the games under these new rules that every time you take a sip of your beer you do t have to continue to put your mask back on.

 

$50 on an NFL game with the spread gives you a 50-50 chance to win and having action for 3 hours on that $50. Compare that to 3 hours of nickels or quarters VP which could cost hundreds. Downside is only getting 1 drink ticket instead of multiple beers from a friendly bartender.

 

I didn't really pay any attention to the seats facing the screens, but there is an adjoining bar/pizza place that has a few tables to sit and eat at. There's a really short video on their facebook page which might answer your question. It is in The Peak, so it's nonsmoking. Based on the number of people throughout the casino with masks down I would be surprised if they cared whether you pulled it up or not. Usually very few people on that side because the slot selection is so poor.

They have also opened up the self serve beverage stations. We just stop to take a pizza home on the way from the coast. Their safety precautions are so lacking we don't feel safe playing there. But if you don't want to wear a mask or distance, I think you'll be fine with it.

 

I was down there three weeks ago and they were working hard on it. Good to know they opened the self-service beverage stations, that's a pain when you can't get your own drinks.

Sports betting is fun, but if I were to complain about one aspect of what they did is they decimated the VP in that non-smoking section in order to put the sports book in. There used to be 4-5 banks of VP, 6 machines each. Now I think there's 8 machines total.

 

Please more specific. There are also casinos named Spirit Mountain in Oregon, and Arizona.

Where is the casino that you are talking about?

Sorry so late with the reply, I've been working all week! My work is kind of crazy busy.

I was able to play Video Poker, no problem, Quarter machine, I didn't really look it the payback, but it was tight, that's why I migrated to Sportsbook. I was just there to blow off some steam.

Yes it's in Grande Ronde, Oregon, about an 1.5 from Portland

I was able to comfortably sit in a private table/chair - with a table tray

I don't think its a restaurant, though, no one was eating or drinking, that may change. The restaurant is closeby, They are watching the area closely, I think if you sat down to eat, it would be OK to take off the mask, most Oregonians wear it though, I do, I'm sort of over it, I wear it all day, I bought a high quality mask. I think that makes a difference, when I was using the cheap store masks, I wasn't comfortable at all at work. I also just drink through the straw, bring your own, the paper straws are not fun.

I am so excited about this new sports betting thing. I ran a spreadsheet on Nationals/Braves yesterday and either a. got lucky, or b. correctly predicted the upset. I couldn't make it out though, and probably won't for another week or two.

I cannot wait to go back! I have a feeling when this catches on, all seats will be filled.

 

Recent update:

I am now regularly hitting this sportsbook. I wanted to give more detail on food and drink:

1. For those who care to know - the sportsbook wine is terrible. I asked for Willamette Valley, there's very limited selection and sometimes its not available. I asked for house when WV wasn't available, BIG MISTAKE.
2. Instead suggest going to Sips and getting a glass and bringing it back.
3. The pizza is REALLY good, I ordered a slice and it tasted nice and cheesy, generous and fairly fresh. I got my wine from Sips and watched baseball and had pizza. Quietest most amazing afternoon. I also got a 4OAK on the VP machine. Another nice grab.
4. I read Vegas Message board Sportsbook section, set up a spreadsheet, did some guessing and used the ideas given and won all 3 bets including the point spread last week. Thanks VMB, probably wont see this every week haha.

Definately try it out, its nice. Ladies if you are interested in trying sportsbook but feel intimidated this is the place start, they are friendly and there are women working at the desk that will help you. Its awesome. Enjoy!

 

I had no idea that was an MLife property now. I've been there once with my daughter who lives in Portland. It was a fun trip along with McMinnville and the Evergreen Museum where the Spruce Goose is located. It's good to hear that the fires didn't affect Spirit Mountain.

 

Thanks for sharing that, I'm going to make it a point to get down there again in a month or so. It's a lovely little drive. I went to Linfield College there in McMinnville and it was around the time that I was graduating that Spirit Mountain first opened.

The FIRST time I ever sat at one of the live poker tables (playing 7-card stud...this was before EVERYONE was playing Hold 'em), I won the bad beat jackpot for just over 4k. I literally didn't even know such a thing existed...I thought I'd lost the hand but suddenly everyone else started getting excited for me (and themselves)...

 

Not an MLife property, they're just partnered with BetMGM for the sportsbook operations.

Just an FYI..Spirit Mountain went smoke free on 11-17. Smoking not allowed within 20 feet of any entrance. They are remaining open, same with Chinook Winds.

 

If you think everyday sports betting is "exciting", just wait till March Madness arrives. MM is the Super Bowl, World Series and the NBA Finals all wrapped up into a 2 weeks span. Go to Vegas once during MM and you'll be hooked for life.

 

Nonsmoking is the best thing to happen to that casino. Frankly, I hope it sticks!

Second yes, I have been getting into sports betting. I did it all the way up to the world series and then I took a break for lack of really good recent football knowledge and no time to make spreadsheets and check stats.

I went to Spirit and Chinook Winds yesterday. Both are outstanding by the way. I went around the opening time on Saturday and the kiosks were filling up before the sports betting counter opened up. Its obviously catching on in the Pacific Northwest.

I will start researching March Madness early. Thanks for the tip!

 

@LVisBeautiful Upstairs at Chinook, (over by the hallway to the conference rooms) is that a sport betting place similar to the one at Spirit Mountain?

My DH refused to go to Spirit Mountain anymore because of the number of smokers with their masks dangling off one ear. I did notice the last time I was there they had turned the Blue Room into nonsmoking in addition to the peak. Curious, did they leave the beverage stations open?

Since reopening I've been really impressed with effort by Chinook Winds to provide a clean safe environment. Of the two, I think there is a better chance they remain nonsmoking. I hope it happens.
