From Asheville google says to take route 19, but Harrah's web page say don't take that exit and stay on 74 until exit 74. That way is an extra 15 miles, I know with mountain road travel the shortest distance is not always the best direction. So after an 8 hour drive with way is better?

Also I will be staying at the hotel, which way is best to get to the hotel parking garage? Drive thru the casino property roads or turn down 19 and drive until I see the hotel parking garage.

I am a first time visitor staying on a Tues & Weds night later this month.
My wife is thinking of using the spa, do they take reward credits at a 1 for 1 ratio?
Has anyone visited Mingo and/or Soco falls? I was thinking about a little midday diversion.
    Any other tips.

    Thanks

I almost always take 74, it is a little longer distance wise but not time wise and it is an easier drive. 19 can be a pain if someone is constantly on your bumper, or the weather is not good. Lots of hairpin turns on 19, and no good views. The views are better on 74.

You can pay for Spa service with TR points on a 1 for 1 basis. Their prices are a little high but it is a nice place with good service.

The Soco falls stop is barely a three car shoulder parking area with a challenging path to the falls. Not worth a special trip to me. Only consider it if the weather is good.

Consider the Cherokee Nation cultural locations for a diversion. They are close buy.

Parking garages are the same no matter which route you take. You end up on 19 either way.

You will enjoy Cherokee. It is a very nice resort property. Take a morning walk along the creek, that is always nice. Both Ruth’s Chris and Brio are also always good. If you do Brio ask for a table on the Patio. It is really inside, but offers nice views. If you go to Ruth’s Chris ask for a table by the fireplace, nice setting.

We are from Phoenix and planning to visit next year. Where is the closes airport we could fly into?

Asheville is the closest airport, it is about an hour and 15 minutes away.

The Knoxville Tennessee airport is another option. It is 2 - 2.5 hours away.

I take the twisty mountain road every time. I hate driving in general, but the drive there is pretty cool. The one year I did it in my F150 though, I had to replace the brake pads and rotors when I got home. Oops!

While Asheville and Knoxville are closer, I would look into flying into Charlotte. Charlotte airport is a 2 1/2 hour drive away per google, but since it is a major hub for American, you may find your total travel time from Phoenix to be less in the end.

Yes, stay on 74 to exit 74.

Better parking garage is just past the hotel, turn left, and immediately left into parking garage. If you go up the hill, you will be a LONG way from hotel checkin.

Thanks for all the inputs on airports. I like the suggestion on Charlotte since AA have non stop flights from Phoenix.
