A couple of chips from the Horseshoe Club. The $5 chip was issued in the 1950s and the $5k chip was issued in the 1980s.
Caesars from 1982 Circus Circus from the year they opened, 1968 Horseshoe Club from 1971 Holiday Casino from 1985 Hacienda from 1992 Tropicana from 1972
Here is a chip from the El Rancho Vegas issued in 1960. The El Rancho Vegas was the first resort on the Las Vegas Strip, opened in 1941 and "mysteriously" burnt to ground in 1960.
I'm a member of the Casino Collectibles Association and get the vast majority of my chips from its' members, either through trades or purchases. They have an annual convention each summer in Las Vegas, that is open to the general public for a nominal fee, which is a great time to meet up with a lot of chip collectors and make some contacts. http://www.ccgtcc.com I've also purchased a large quantity of chips through Spinettis, at both their store in downtown Las Vegas as well as their website. I can't say enough positive things about the guys at Spinettis. They are very knowledgeable, friendly, customer service oriented and price their chips very reasonably. https://spinettisgaming.com I've purchased a few newer chips on eBay, but never anything too valuable. I've generally had pretty good experiences on eBay but a few years ago someone sold me some bogus Stratosphere chips, and it was such a hassle getting my money returned, that I now stay away from them for bigger ticket items. I think eBay is generally pretty safe for casino chips but I just don't want to take a chance with the more expensive ones. However, I do have a few friends, who are collectors, and if they have a chip that they think I might be interested in they'll shoot me a quick email detailing their listing. I've purchased a lot of chips that way, but only because they are known to me as very reputable dealers. Here is a great site I use to verify chips. The site lists each casino and has pictures, with information, about every chip (in the vast majority of cases) that that particular casino has ever issued. Its a great resource for any casino chip collector. http://themogh.org/cg_home2.php *EDIT TO ADD* The Chip Board is also a really good resource. You'll have to sign up in order to post, but this site has provided me with a wealth of information. http://www.thechipboard.com/index.cgi/md/index/page/1
Mike O I was wondering do you have any chips from the KLONDIKE casino that was across from the VEGAS sign on the airport side of the road.
These are the only two I have. The $1 chip was issued in 1982. The $5 chip (with an unfortunate cigarette burn) was issued in 2002. Somewhere along the line they changed their name from the Klondike Inn to the Klondike Hotel and Casino. Here is an interesting note about the Klondike that can make for some decent Vegas bar trivia. For a period of time in the mid 70s the "Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas Sign" had been without power, and therefore not lit, for several years. The owner of the Klondike provided power to the sign, by somehow running a power cord across LVB to its' median, until the city or county took over the lighting of the iconic landmark a few years later. True story.
Thanks for the pictures Mike also the Klondike was used in Vegas Vacation for the Casino with all the carney games.
