    My Trip Report

Hi everyone, I know I am posting this about 36 hrs before my trip officially starts, but I have a busy day tomorrow and I am worried if I don't do it know it won't happen at all.

This trip is for my brother's 36 birthday. We started planning this trip way back in February and oh my has a lot happened since then.

Original players were supposed to be my brother and his GF and then my wife and I. However, my wife passed away in early March and then days later the Covid pandemic really hit the US. So this trip has been on and off more times than I care to count, but it's official we (my brother, his GF, and me) decided to go forward with it.

It is definitely going to be a different trip for me. Obviously with everything Covid related going on, but also I am slightly worried about being a third wheel.

Anyways, the plan is fly out of MCI on Monday 9:30am and be on the ground in Vegas around 10:30am.

Hotel: Luxor (Tower Premier One Bedroom Suite)
    Bankroll: $10k

Itenirary: No real set plans except dinner at Hugo's Cellar on my brother's bday. Otherwise we are flying by the seat of our pants. It is his GFs 1st time in vegas so I am sure we will do some touristy things for her. I also know I will be playing a lot of craps. We have talked about renting a cabana one day, going to battlefield vegas, pinball hof, and a few other things but we will see what happens.

We have rented a car which is a first for me in Vegas so I am sure that will open up some options I have never considered before.

I will try to update along the way.

Also, I have been craving Oysters for like the last week (you can't get good or even decent oysters in Kansas) so if anyone has a good recommendation for Oysters in Vegas please let me know.

@Jayhawk Fan I’m so sorry for your loss. Sounds like you need a getaway for sure. Don’t worry about feeling like a 3rd wheel, with your brothers gf being a newbie you should be fine. Have a great time!

    Happy birthday to me!

So sorry about your wife. What an emotional rollercoaster with that and everything else in the world! Hope you're Vegas trip allows you some release from the real world for a little while at least.
From one Jayhawk to another, have a great time! I just got back last night on a solo trip. It was a nice getaway.

I appreciate the comments from everyone. It has definitely been a rollercoaster. Becoming a single dad to a 16yo girl and and 11yo boy overnight has been a challenge. Luckily I have a great support network, but covid has definitely impacted that as well.

I really am hoping this trip is the refreshing getaway I need after the last 6 months.

It was on my list as a possibility. Someone also suggested Shucks Tavern and Oyster Bar.

    Sorry for your loss.

Re: Oysters. Since you have a car check out the Oyster Bar at Palace Station. If you want to stick to the Strip, go to the one at Harrah's

Heading to my nephew's Nerf themed birthday party. The kids will leave with nana and papa from there and I will finish up the last minute packing. 14 hrs until I have to leave for the airport... getting pumped!

My son is ready for the party...

Your son is definitely ready for a nerf battle! He should be battling the Purple menace from Manhattan though!

Thanks, but I think we have settled on going to the Shucks Tavern and Oyster Bar on Flamingo Rd. The lady on this trip doesn't care for seafood at all, but she found some tavern food on their menu she is ok with.

I am back home, kids are at the grandparents, I am packed, devices are charging and the alarm is set for 5:45... Now to figure out how to fall asleep tonight. Always seems to be a problem the night before Vegas.

Wow, you are certainly entitled to a fun and relaxing trip. Just a thought, if you have a car, skip battlefield and drive out to red rocks. You can all get an amazing view of the valley and see a side of Vegas you haven't experienced previously

I am all for that, but my brother is a bit of a gun nut and really has some things he wants to shoot. He might win this one since it's his bday trip.

One of the magical things about Vegas seems to be that you can enjoy the place in groups large or small or totally solo. Enjoy your trip, sounds like fun things in store!

Jayhawks Fan - We worry about so many things. Your post is a reminder not too much of that stuff matters and we should focus on making memories and enjoying life as best we can while we can. I wish you a safe and memorable trip!
