It definitely had customers when I walked by a few weeks ago, but not nearly the kind of crowds it attracted pre pandemic

I wonder if they also had a problem getting certain foods.

I assume weekend crowds were fine. Try making a reservation, its impossible unless 1 week ahead or more. Im going this saturday night and made the reservation on monday. Only 1 slot open at 9pm.

    Im guessing either:
    1. Many people make reservations and dont show up
    2. Not enough non-weekend guests (tho they close half the week)
    3. Bad business plan? Numbers didnt add up?

50% capacity limit probably was fatal.

50% capacity, higher labor costs, and lower demand is not a recipe for success. Seems like CET figured that out before they made the mistake of opening Bacchanal. I’m afraid this might just be the start of the closings as resorts identify what outlets work in the current environment and which ones aren’t carrying their weight.

I wonder if Wicked Spoon will hold on, they have more limited hours/offerings and stayed closer to their standard experience, so maybe they’ll be able to make it work?

Regarding No shows.... Wicked Spoon requires prepayment in order to reserve. There were lines to check in and lines to be seated when I was there 3 weeks ago. And, brunch only, no table service, I think Wicked Spoon is probably lower food costs and less labor intense. But... we'll see. ,

For me, the interesting context of many pandemic restrictions is the recent CDC update that surface transmission has been found to be much less likely than originally thought. The crowd control and spacing probably renders buffets financially unviable .... but I can't help wondering whether actually touching the serving spoons/tongs/etc was really truly dangerous.

If nothing else... I hope glasses reappear on the MGM casinos floors. I hate getting my vodka-rocks in a plastic cup. Anyone heard that someone got sick sipping from real glass at Cosmo?

I am at Beau Rivage right now and noticed a lot of glass floating around here this evening. I've also seen larger sized plastic cups. And small ones. Maybe the glass is coming just from the bar, which is open at the moment.

Glad I was able to experience the table arrive style buffet. Before they gutted the menu of the $$$ items. It was actually quite neat to have all the food brought to my table and the folks there didn’t seem to judge how much I gorged lol.

Lots of factors at play here. Lower customer count, higher food costs, higher labor costs. With other revenue generating facilities not yet in full swing having a buffet as a loss leader (not saying Wynn's was a loss leader) decisions like this are going to common place. Until the world normalizes I fully expect many events like this. For those that believe buffets are forever lost I don't agree. They will find their place eventually. Just not at the moment. Really breaks our hearts as my wife and I were going to visit (for free thanks to the game) back on our canceled April trip. Oh well; another time. I feel for those that have and will lose their jobs as a result.

Darn, a couple of weeks too early. Back to eating $14.88 Pei Don Sau Yook Jook (Congee with pork and preserved egg) or $9.88 Char Siew Bow (BBQ Pork buns) at Red 8 . . . . NOT.

If this didn't work at their price point, how can anyone make it work for now?

I know a lot of the locals were fine with killing off their $10-25 buffets that broke even at best, but some of these high end ones in Vegas likely made money. Clearly, that isn't possible now if Wynn can't make it work

But at Red 8 at Wynn Macau, it's only $7.52 USD. :)
