Why did CET keep the "young" hotels closed?

Pretty much all of the Monopoly board spots are based on street names from Atlantic City. The original Bally's in AC was named "Bally's Park Place", because it was located on Park Place. That's presumably where the "Park Place Entertainment" came from.

The Cromwell pool is a party pool. No party, no real revenue. No reason to keep the hotel open.

Yes Park Place is/was a real place, however it is in Atlantic City.

Park Place in Las Vegas now is more or less where Boardwalk was.

Yes, most of the streets and properties of Monopoly appear(ed) in the Atlantic City area, with one very significant misspelling.

Just like me. I wouldn't stay anywhere else. It was a real zoo at 5 AM when Drai's was briefly relocated there when they redid Bill's into the Cromwell. Then it became boring again.

Monopoly is based on Atlantic City. Take a walk on the boardwalk and read the street signs. I’ve surprised a few people with this fact over the years.

With no shows, no clubs, no pool party the young crowd really has no interest in Vegas, most dont gamble

LMAO i'm 35, and think the same thing. Except flamingo i'd say is Ancient, tried to remodel. only has party pool going for it. Attracts younger "trashy" crowd (which i like).

Take the express tram to Excalibur. ;)

To be honest, when I stay at Delano/Mandalay, I rarely go over to Luxor unless I’m cashing in a MyVegas reward or to see Carrot Top.

    Poor old Marven Gardens...

I think they modified the name of the Short Line railroad, as well.

To get slightly back on topic, for what it's worth, some of the clubs are "sort of" open. I put that in quotes because they require reservations, have limited capacity, and don't have any major DJs or anything. Marquee pool, in particular, is open on Friday and Saturday nights, though only advertising "Live DJs" so presumably they're not paying anyone anything serious, plus with limited capacity they need far less service and security staff. Many of the dayclubs are open as well, though again, limited capacity and reservation-only.

I have actually stayed there. The rooms are huge compared to typical hotel rooms. I will admit it's not what it used to be. Gregrio (God rest his soul) from the board loved the place. He had his favorite room and employees knew him from his frequent visits. I do hope The Palms will eventually open but that's Station Casinos property.

    I just turned 40 but I can't say I agree with you.

Rio is a great property. Lots do to there, shows, good food, mini golf and lots of table games to gamble.

But I don't like the more upscale properties because I don't feel like I belong there. Caesars, Bellagio, Linq, too expensive, nothing I'm going to eat there.

I come to Vegas to gamble, not to party. I can't stand it when the music is so loud I can't hear the dealer in front of me.

I don't care what the decor is, what the theme is. Give me a free room, drink serve and a craps table and I'll play in the middle of the street.

This is probably why I like downtown so much. They are there to provide affordable entertainment. I'm a bit worried that Circa is going to gussy some things up. Hopefully they don't raise prices for the other properties.

I like the property, just hate the condition of the rooms. Service was always nice, and that buffet was amazing back in the day. Now? I’d probably choose Orleans over it in a heartbeat. And ditto what @Jimbucc brings up about Gregrio... He was a god there!

You are way too young and hip for me, lol. And I'm in my mid-30s, so not that old. I agree with some of what you say, but I wonder which of these places you've stayed? Ballys is one of the best kept secrets on the strip. Really nice, laid back vibe which is kind of what I prefer a lot of the time. Flamingo is old, but rooms have been renovated recently and it is a total party place. Paris is one of the newer-ish casinos on the strip actually; definitely not older than the Tropicana haha.Tropicana as well though has received a lot of renovations. I've stayed at Rio twice and was actually pleasantly surprised because I had the same impression as you. Nothing looked or felt old though. Linq does have small rooms, but the property itself and everything they've been doing in and around the casino floor is super modern. Did you see the Imperial Palace before? THAT was a true dump. Worse than Circus Circus.

As to the original question of why Cromwell and Planet Hollywood aren't open I'm pretty sure it is because Cromwell is too small to make much money UNLESS you have Drais. And nightclubs will not be opening for quite some time still. Planet Hollywood, I suspect is being sold. They've announced one strip property will be sold and geographically that one makes the most sense. I think Cromwell is safe. They have been putting a ton of promo into it. There are several MTV reality shows that feature it and now they are filming Love Island there.

Agree somewhat as far as the Paris common areas could use some updating (I'd gut buffet, bathrooms, etc). Rooms are very nice and much better and bigger than Tropicana's rooms.

Why Cromwell is closed has been noted already (filming Love Island 2). I would guess Planet Hollywood was kept closed because of proximity to other CET properties. Harrah's/Linq/Flamingo are all 'connected' and Paris/Ballys are as well. Caesars is the flagship and so PH is the odd man out, kind of why I have always assumed that is the strip property they will look to sell first when the time comes.

Planet Hollywood is the newest brand-new construction (save for part of the Zappos Theater) among the current CET Vegas properties. Tuesday (18 August 2020) will mark 20 years since its opening. Paris opened 11 months earlier, and it is the newest built by a company in the new Caesars lineage (Park Place --> Harrah's --> Eldorado). If you don't count the Rio, the oldest new construction at every other CET property in Vegas is at least 10 years older than every currently-standing bit of every current MGM property (except for the West Wing of the MGM Grand; what was the Marina is still newer than the oldest-standing bits of three current CET properties, and not much older than three others).

As I read this, I can't help wonder

The casinos must have tons of research and guest profiling studies. Could there be a correlation between older age and dollars spent?

Don't know who's going these days... but maybe true mega-whales who pay the bills are more likely to stay where the vibe is a little older?

Having seen some of the casino data as part of a job many, many years ago, I can tell you that the amount of research they have on players would blow your mind. That was about 10 years ago when I was working on a contract with a data company and the company was doing some work with a Vegas casino company. Having signed an NDA as part of that job I can't really go in to details but I was amazed bu the volume of data, and the details of that data, that they had even a decade ago. I can't imagine what that data looks like now with social media way more prevalent these days.
