So MLB, NHL, MLS, NBA, NASCAR, F1, UFC, Europe Soccer Leagues, The PGA Tour, all figure out a way to play their sports already, and the NFL is on the way. But some colleges say they cannot.

And your point is that worrying about the student athletes is silly?

The difference is that the NHL and NBA are in a bubble, playing in cloded environments. You cant do that in college. Plus you are bussing or flying 90 players, staff, cheer and band in some cases. Thats a lot of moving parts.

Nascar is a solitary sport. MLB is having major problems with some teams.

When and if the SEC cancels I will agree it makes sense.

It was reported today that the Big 10 and several other Power 5 conferences may cancel this up coming season. If this happens this would be a big blow to many sportsbooks and related industry. Big money is laid on these games especially the Power 5 conferences. The only saving grace is the NFL for many of the larger sportsbooks. If the NFL cancels all bets are off.

Yeah much easier decision for MAC schools as they don’t generate revenue and can do the right thing. Much harder for conferences like SEC. Thats all those people have.

As a sports gambler not having the Tuesday and Wednesday Macaction is going to stink.

I still will believe it when I see it. The SEC and ACC(Clemson) alumni fanbase want football more than anything.

Most MAC football teams make money by getting beat up by bigger schools. With most conferences canceling nonconference games the MAC schools are facing huge revenue loses. Not sure if that played a factor in canceling.

As a season ticket holder and booster at Florida State, I have gotten a lot of email communication about the state of it recently. As of an email I got this past Friday, ACC has moved to 10 conference games per team and one out of conference game (optional and must be played in home state - doesnt matter where opponent comes from though just has to be played in state) and we are being told stadium capacity at least here will be limited to 20 to 25% capacity. They're definitely planning to play as of now, but with a heavily modified schedule and no divisions, and still have a conference championship game. Also, Notre Dame is playing a full ACC schedule under same restrictions as the rest according to the last few emails I've gotten. So unless something changes, ACC teams will, as of now, be playing 10 or 11 games each in the regular season, with limited or no audience present depending on host location restrictions. That's their plan right now. I'm not sure what the SEC is doing, but I can say originally when the ACC rules came out, our out of conference game was scheduled to be the annual game vs Florida Gators, which was already on our schedule to be a home game in November, but as of the email Friday, that game has been dropped and our week 2 or 3 home game against Samford was re-added, but there was no explanation of that so I'm not sure if that had to do with SEC, or UF, or something else entirely.

Public reactions to what Group of Five schools are doing only adds credence to the discussion that the Power Five is solely about money.

From the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel Monday 8/10:

MADISON – The Big Ten Conference has decided to attempt to move the league's 2020 football season to the second semester.

Multiple sources told the Journal Sentinel that an announcement is expected early this week.

According to multiple reports, Big Ten presidents and chancellors were scheduled to meet Sunday to discuss the league's plans for shutting down fall sports because of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

Wisconsin is scheduled to hold its first practice of preseason camp on Monday.

It is probably behind a paid wall, but here is the link:

The players are voicing their concerns as well and want some fairness for those players who do decide to opt out, including the schools guaranteeing their scholarships. They are also using this as a chance to get their voices heard on issues that they always should have had some input on as the primary source of money for Power 5 universities.

It's actually not a reach to figure that most all of CFB will do the right and logical thing and have the south hold on and press it to the end.

The MAC shut down their fall football because of one school, Northern Illinois, so I am with you, I think it will take 1-2 schools deciding it is not worth the risk to put a pause on the entire power 5 fall schedule.

Wow. Not surprised the way the vote fell out if that is true.

im sure that it played somewhat of a role how ever safety rules all. UB was to get paid by Ohio State 1.8 million. Kansas State was gonna pay 900k.. I'm betting that the rest of Mid major FBS conferences will cancel by Friday. Big 10 by Saturday. College Football will probably come to halt in less than a weeks time!
