    My Trip Report

    Hi Friends!
Just returned from LV and wanted to share my trip.

This trip was originally supposed to happen in June for hubby’s 50th birthday. I bought him a gift certificate to Exotics Racing for 5 laps in 3 different sports cars. Needless to say, that trip didn’t happen. I have been watching and reading everything that I could about the reopening and knowing it would be a different Vegas but we felt good to book for the 1st week in August.

Flight: Uneventful flight on SWA with middle seats empty to and from Las Vegas. Served water and a snack.

Hotel: Caesars Palace- Palace Tower Studio Suite. No complaints about the room, having two separate bathrooms is so nice! We were on the 23rd floor and had a view of the pools. There was no housekeeping, but if you needed anything you were supposed to call and they would bring you what you needed. Bed comfy but pillows way too soft.

Casino: I’ve played at CP for years but this was a new experience for me. Sports book closed during the week, no VP at bar tops and no cocktail waitresses to be found. Granted I knew this going in but it was still strange to see it live and in person. I also couldn’t believe how smoky it was, I’ve never had that issue before. Played mostly slots and VP and came out about even.

Food: We ate at Omelette house on the way to Exotic Racing. Really good breakfast and the prices were good too.
Anniversary dinner at Eiffel Tower. We made a reservation for Wednesday night and glad we did because they were telling walk ups at least an hour wait. Dinner was fabulous! I love love love the King Crab Dijonaisse. I wish they would offer it as an entree...We also split the Salmon and potatoes gratin. I had the Grand Mariner soufflé and hubs had the Strawberry Rhubarb Soufflé, both excellent then they brought us a Chocolate Mousse for our anniversary. So much food, we were walking in a food coma back to CP.

We also ate breakfast at Mon Ami Gabi 2 mornings and both times were able to sit outside. If they ever have the Lemon Crepes with berries for a special, GET THEM!

Our last night was at Mesa Grill, it was ok but this time was just a little off. Food wasn’t hot and service wasn’t good. I was going to use my Diamond dinner here but they forgot and my fault I didn’t check the bill before I charged it to the room. No worries, I will use that Diamond dinner in October.

Final thoughts: Hubby absolutely loved the driving experience at Exotics Racing and is ready to do it again, which I love because that means more trips to LV for me!

Never have I had to buy drinks while gambling, but there was NO cocktail service at CP. I saw one waitress and flagged her down but she disappeared and never came back. So we used comps in the gift shop for drinks.

Mask usage was 90-100% on the strip. Every casino we visited, masks were enforced.

There were so many homeless people this trip. One morning at MAG we were yelled at by a guy that was clearly on something... security couldn’t do anything because he wasn’t ‘on property’. So we sat there and listened to him cuss out everyone that was sitting on the patio until he saw no one gave him notice and he moved on.

We rented a cabana at the Venus pool which was wonderful. We went on a Thursday and basically had the pool to ourselves. Our host said that only people that had rented cabanas and daybeds were allowed in the Venus area. There was a line of people waiting to get in and the rest of the pools and they had a lot of people. We had to wear masks in the cabana and sitting by the pool. The only time you didn’t have to wear a mask was in the water and walking to and from the pool. I highly recommend if it’s in your budget to get a cabana. Our server and cabana host were awesome.

There is really nothing to do right now except gamble, eat and go to the pool. We really needed a get away since we are both ‘essential’ and haven’t been able to take any time off. My advice to anyone planning a trip is to make reservations for restaurants ahead of time and try an research what is open and what the hours are. So many places we tried to eat at had reduced hours or were only open on weekends.

Yes this was a different trip than what we are used to, but a trip is what you make of it. We were happy for the getaway and we will be back in October!

Congrats on a relaxing trip! Too bad about the absent cocktail service, but sounds like you made the best of it. BTW, I like your screen name [emoji6][emoji6]

    Love yours too! ❤️
We’re very laid back and go with the flow. Life is too short not to appreciate our down time together!

First of all, @txsteph, Happy Anniversary! Second, glad you had what sounds like was a good (under the circumstances) and much needed trip! Thank you for you service. And lastly, thanks for a great trip report!

I've never tried the Eiffel Tower restaurant but this is the second excellent VMB review I have read post the Covid breakout so I will put that on my list of Must Dos at some point, though I'll likely be solo.

Good move on renting the cabana and being able to enjoy the pool almost to yourselves.

Bummer about MESA grill as I really like that restaurant. Hopefully it was just an off night.

Glad to know MAG is still great though the extra visitor was a PITA.

Thanks again for sharing your experiences. My attitude as I count down to what I hope is a trip in late September is similar to yours. I know it won't be the Vegas as usual but I still think it can be an enjoyable and relaxing experience. But, as you noted, you have to do a bit of planning. Your cabana rental and making reservations in advance are examples of that.

@Flowers I’m sure it was just an off night for Mesa, we will return! MAG is always delicious and tradition for us to toast our Vegas vacation with a St Gemain Spritz. We went back and forth on deciding if we wanted to try Bugsy and Meyer or the Eiffel Tower. Eiffel Tower finally won out because it is open 7 days a week and fit better into our schedule. I highly recommend it!

Thanks and I hear you about MAG. There's something about dining there, for me especially breakfast/brunch, that helps you process that you are REALLY in Vegas!

I was at CP the same time as you. I agree about the cocktail service. It was nonexistent. I got so frustrated with it I did most of my gambling elswhere. Cocktail service at Harrahs was excellent.

CP has not had good cocktail service in recent years. It is slow enough in the main pit. The aging, overworked servers are always staggering around with a tray overloaded with about 15 drinks. If you’re at a machine in the Olympic casino out near the Forum Shops—GOOD LUCK, you have a better chance of hitting a royal flush than being served by the cocktail waitress, LoL.
