    Don’t tell anyone... anything!!!

They all have ideas what should be done with money that isn’t theirs....resentment comes after....

If it was me, I would keep it to myself. Only people I would tell would be my spouse, my tax guy, and our financial planner. It wouldn't really change how we lived as we're pretty low key and conservative spenders already. It would just provide more security knowing we have a decent cushion to fall back on if needed.

I remember reading a story on a couple near here that won a lottery jackpot in the 1- 10 million dollar range. They said they weren't even going to tell their children. Luckily they lived in a state were they could remain anonymous. They just wanted life to continue on the way it was before. There story really stuck with me.

Okay I might by a few pair of really nice shoes.

I won a sizable amount of FreePlay in Biloxi once and the casino wanted to give me a leather jacket and
plaster my face on their marquee outside. I put a stop to that nonsense real quick - no photos no publicity!
Had 3 days to convert the FreePlay to cash because I had no plans of going back with-in the next 6 months.
It was hard work! No leather jacket...

    I know myself -
I couldn't keep THAT a secret .....are you kidding ?
    But.....
My In Laws would be asking for assistance immediately !
So.....if I didn't want to pour money down that endless drain.....
    I couldn;t tell my wife !
And I wouldn't want my young son to think he could " coast " the rest of his life.
Cos.....quite frankly......$760K ......can disappear faster than one believes !
I would tell my brother + two sisters.

Sounds like they basically said “You can hide, or we can give you some hide, but you can’t have both!” :)

Good going on winning all that freeplay!

I play almost all VP, I can't remember last time I play slots. I don't know any other games that would pay that because I never make a bet that big.
That said, unless I was solo whoever was with me would know and I would tell a couple people I care about. After taxes, at my age it wouldn't change my life that much anyway. While I'm not what I consider rich, I can do most things I want to now. I don't have that expensive taste.

I wouldn't tell anybody. Not even family. Not unless they were looking over my shoulder when I won.

The only person I would tell, besides my wife, is my zero commission broker, and technically, I wouldn't tell him, I'd deposit the money and let it grow.

I’d probably try to remain as anonymous as possible. I purposely keep my financial info very private.

Does a $! million or more obtained somewhere else count for this question?

I'd tell my wife, my parents, and eventually our college-age daughter. Wouldn't tell my wife's family because she has a large family beset with various issues ranging from just plain goofy to the soulless one who steals from her elderly parents who barely have two nickels to rub together. My family is boring and, relatively speaking, sane.

The wife...her folks, my brothers & sister and my friend who meets me in Vegas every year for the last 30 years...nobody else.
Most of the net proceeds would be "gone" pretty quickly, a combination of retirement property, 10% to church/charities & in IRA/401K investments (Roth, of course!).
I would toss my Vegas buddy a few grand, just out of gambler's loyalty. ;)

I would like to say that nobody other than my financial planner and banker would know about it, but who am I kidding? I couldn't keep that kind of secret to myself. I'd have to tell you guys for sure. :)

I saw a documentary or some show once about lottery winners whose lives were ruined by winning. I would try to be smarter than those people.

When it comes to fame and fortune, all I ever really desired is the fortune part.
I don't need for everyone to know my name.
I do not have that kind of an ego.

My best advice would be to find a company that will advance you 25 years of a $40k/year job. Can’t guarantee that’s the best route or even a wise choice, but something to consider. :ssst:

While after taxes the win is not so big here in California - not even enough to buy a house in my hood, because of money sucking leeches in my life I would only clue in my hubs and finance guy. It's a shame really, but when we paid off our house several years ago and someone found out (damn public record!!) it spread like wildfire and everybody and their mother wanted a "loan." Ugh. We have always lived well beneath our means and continue to do so. People have always assumed that we don't have any money. Well, until FB where I have the unfortunate habit of posting all the times I'm in Vegas or some other location traveling. :goofy::oops::)
