Oops, my bad  As noted in a revised earlier post, I was referring to the royals that were somebody else’s :) Never mind me taking a Chris Farley-level pratfall through AD’s TR, toppling over the furniture and everything :goofy:

    A not too shabby 1:20
(told P about the Ticket out and refeed technique I learned about here, it works well and functions as a stop loss when she is going big)
    :thumbsup:thanks, VMBers!

She didn't win anything at bingo, ($65, but $40 w. kiosk coupon)
but she got a kiosk prize of an Igloo insulated hot/cold cup.
I think she said she dumped those two vodka tonics in it,
she kicked it over in her excitement,
and passed the spill test

    what got her excited?

    first time!

(not too bad for 2 hours)
She hit those tickets and ran, I was asleep during this.
I think it helped cut her loss at Cosmo.

P PSA: South point made a change to their change machines, it pays cash, but gives you tickets for the change.. If you want the change:eek:, you take the ticket(s), to the cage, where the unfortunate employee has to manually add them up on a calculator, then pay you out..
So she started just batching up TITOs, cashing them in bunches, and making the ladys day w. a $5 tip.. kept doing it, thought it was a time saver, especially at places w. kiosks that pay every single ticket out, but don't let you batch insert them...

There's also the brilliant tip I learned here that you can just feed them all into a penny slot or whatever, then ticket out a single TITO.

Good Point, I also forgot about the pull out technique :kill:, foiling my efforts to help share TC info.
also, with all the Hennessey I was drinking, I goofed and played BP on that 10 play as if it were DDB.
    :(I'm such a dummy.

Tried to use the app once, after this it forgot my saved password.

If I were rating slot club on machine interfaces, I'd say....

    SP (by far)>DTG>Plaza>D/GG=4Q>Binions~Cosmo> Boyd

Extra special victory to South Point, during our drop in on the way in,
P maxed the promo they had going.

Do you know what she had to do?
Sit at the slot and spin the wheel on the display
(or does it pop up in the main screen? I never see it)
    ..
She got 3x$10+$25 for $55 of free play.. do you know how to get at that?
Sit at the slot and punch those nice new sensitive screens on the display.
(that FP alone ~= our Cal offer + "Bonus Play offer") .

I also just asked at the pit after a while on $5 Craps, and got a $40 pit comp for food, given to me quick, and friendly like,
not like I put them out or ruined their day by making them do their job.

yeah, we're staying there next. definitely.
I can only imagine what some real play can get us.

been a while since I made it to Elco.
These feet can only take so much.
Just started CET, so never messed with it, seemed servicable.
Not much Strip time yet so don't know how well those perform.

    stay tuned.

IMHO, anything that bypasses the need to hit the players club (especially if it is closed), or a kiosk (especially if they are down) is a huge plus.

who is the genius that wants players to stop playing at a machine to try and waste time jumping through hoops?
:eek:Aw, Jeez, I hope it's not the bean counters!

I'm thinking of breaking this out into a separate post, I'm interested in everyone elses opinion.

    As always
    YMMV.

@AyDee I can't thank you enough for such a wonderful, fun, and informative trip report. I canceled my birthday trip in April. Was set to go out this Friday and canceled. (Numbers AND scared of them sending us home.) Like most, I am overdue for Vegas and am chomping at the bit, and was really bummed to cancel my trip, especially since I have a mandatory week off at work.

But, your amazing honesty made me feel better about canceling, and your vibrant, fun TR writing style let me get a little "Vegas time" in, even if just mentally.

Thank you. And loved the TR!

I like this way of TR! Double the enjoyment of following along!

Hoping for a craps exposition. I have been running bad at craps, and looking for any insight, advice, or tips you might have.

Also would be very interested in your slot club and comp observations. Long time FQ people. Lately stayed at the D for the first time. Keep hearing good things about Southpoint. Have not stayed or played much at Boyd since the club slaughter, just enough to keep Sapphire in the event they see the light.

Now back to re-read. Thanks again.

@taaff , I think I'll break the craps exposition into a separate thread, but I've also already filled in some here.
(Thr 8/6: and a little more)

Don't track comps all that hard, but FQ seems in the lead, with Boyd at the tail.
We are going to give SP a full small trip and see what happens,
D/GG is up there near the top, especially because we are looking forwards to Circa.
Think we were coded to GG (bummer host Tim left, we really hit it off),
but we just broke through to D room offers, never been, might check it out.

(I think we have accomplished the goal of getting offers at every downtown casino,
4q is playing a little hard to get, hope our previous trip,
and following advice to not short play them this trip should help.
Probably will check out a south tower room. Then we could probably make it to Elco)

We are getting kind of excited at doing full focus play at various new properties and seeing what kind of teaser we can pull..
Everyone is beating Boyd already and we've been giving Boyd the majority of our play.
I feel like a divorcee about to paint the town red.

(we will be back when MSS is back, we sleep the best in Cal rooms, and the 20x craps is still my first love and favorite.)

    full discolure:
In real life I am quiet, a misanthrope, a loner, stay home a lot - a lot, like lockdown barely changed anything, and rarely see my friends.
It must be somewhat true that you can be a different person in Vegas.

or maybe it's the realization I had a few hours ago,
I just don't trust people without vices.

    PPS:
In the 1997 book Into Thin Air by Jon Krakauer—a personal account of the events of the 1996 Everest disaster—Krakauer states: "Walter Mittys with Everest dreams need to bear in mind that when things go wrong up in the death zone (above 26,000 feet)—and sooner or later they always do—the strongest guides in the world may be powerless to save a client's life; indeed as the events of 1996 demonstrated, the strongest guides in the world are sometimes powerless to save even their own lives."[8]

    miscellanea:
It didn't just feel stifling hot Thurday night, it was.
Friday felt no cooler. Felt humid too, outside, and inside.

The seventh hottest July in Las Vegas ended with the highest low temperature ever on record overnight Thursday, according to the National Weather Service.

(adding a few (3?) easter egg songs into appropriate time line)
Total playlist is now 37 songs. All played and saved at moments that spoke to me..
Had a fun concept of making it a 00 roulette game where people picked numbers,
but I feel I may be wearing my welcome thin with all this silly music..
So most of them are in here anyways...

also just figured out how to share youtube playlists, so,
I promise there should be less music spam from now on.
    (after this is finally done)

near final update, this applies mostly to downtown.

    It's different out there.
Maybe I was exhausted, maybe I drank a bit too much, maybe I didn't smoke enough, maybe it was the unnoticed extra subconscious worry about Covid, maybe I wasn't getting enough oxygen through my mask,

But, the trip had a tense balance of nervous energy, having to adapt to changing situations, and different conditions that I have ever seen in my last dozen trips.

AD PSA: P said she never wanted to wear her headphones to listen to music, she wanted to be as aware of her surroundings as possible.

    This is best practice.
I needed them, the heat, the crush, and the noise was getting to me, I had to calm myself.
But my eyes were open, my head was on a swivel, and one came out of an ear many times.
Always be aware of your surroundings. ALWAYS.
trust whatever spidey sense you have. If you don't feel safe, move to where you feel safer.

We were just there in June 23-27, at Cal, and it was nothing like this.

Writing this TR up, and contrasting the places we visited got me a little more steamed at Boyd than I've ever been.
chanelling the fiery spirit of @notfromconcentrate ,
I gave an honest and thorough review to the survey, pointing out the highs (all the staff),
and the lows, a surly attitude at two of the three table games that I not only witnessed myself, but directed to other customers..
As a matter of fact, to every other customer there and myself included.
(they didn't sweat Uncle at the craps table, he obviously knew the routine, but sweating every hot roll sweated his BR, didn't it?)

(maybe they fucked up by giving me a suite once, then never again. It's hard to downgrade)

Kudos to Boyd/Cal, they sent me a reply.
and it wasn't even a form letter.
I really do appreciate this, it means I wasn’t wasting my breath and someone actually read my complaints.
Maybe, like @Ty getting the VP machines moved,
I can help you get all 3 USB plugs. The bedside ones are handy.

    Dear AyDee,

Thank you for your feedback regarding your recent experience at California Hotel & Casino. Your comments offer us invaluable insights that help us identify areas of improvement and provide the best possible experience to our guests.

On behalf of California Hotel & Casino, we apologize for the service issues and room quality that you encountered during your visit. Issues of this kind are not representative of our service culture, and will be investigated further for quality assurance purposes.

Please accept my apology for the lack of guest service from our Table Games staff. This is nowhere near our expectation of the way in which they should greet and help our guests.

I checked your reservation and found that $3.54 was not applied to a $30 dining credit on the room. If there was supposed to be an additional dining credit on the room I apologize, but I have refunded the amount charged to your Discover card. You should see this credit post in a few days.

I am so glad to hear the kind feedback for Steven. He is a great team member and I will pass along your comments to Steven and his Manager.

The Covid-19 Pandemic has absolutely changed our operations in the near term, but we are looking forward to the time when normalcy returns.

We hope to have the opportunity to regain your good will and look forward to welcoming you back to California Hotel & Casino soon.

    Sincerely,
    .... .....
    Hotel Manager

mea culpa, we were trying to figure out what that little charge was, not an issue at all, but in principle we knew we were missing the bonus FC offer.
 I had forgotten, it was not applied to the room, but was printed on a little voucher at the kiosk..
This was entirely my mistake.. MY BAD. Used to it at Plaza, never seen it at Cal. Gave it to P for safekeeping, but she forgot too. Never had a time to use it anyways. No more hero redemption breakfast room service.. MSC opens at 4 pm.

AD PSA: If you get that bonus, FC, don't forget to use the little voucher and not charge it to your room .

:bang:now it comes back to me, we used the bonus FC ticket first, also best practice to not have to remember later,(also only valid Sun- Thur)
the 3 bucks was the overage, I'm not wasting time charging that to the room.
I was mistaken to think that all the FC would be available to be charged to the room, how it always has been so far.
. wait does the hotel manager not know how the new club promo works... nevermind ..
    never sweat the little things.

that's two my bads. Drink responsibly.

:eek:I've seen this a lot at other places too, last minute disputes about comp charges usually result in a long stall, the front desk person has no clue, says they can try and call the pit you were at, maybe even go through the motions of calling, of course no answer, it's checkout time,
and as you are standing there trying to leave you just say screw it, pay all the charges, and leave..
with that last little hassle as your final memory of a property..

Never really Cal/Boyd, here, I'm talking about (well, once). But it's happened more than once elsewhere.

Stay Safe Everyone, Freedom is Free

I apologize to the cal craps dealers, but sometimes you need to give it back as you get it.
