1986 World Series Game 6 is what he will be his nadir as a manager.
Managed 19 seasons in the major leagues with the Oakland A’s, San Diego Padres, Cincinnati Reds, California Angels, Red Sox, and Cleveland Indians.
I was in Slots of Fun watching game 6.
A groan came out when Bob Stanley threw a wild pitch to tie the game.
A four letter work came out win Vin Scully said the ball gets by Bill Buckner and the Mets win.

I was young at the time when this happened but watched the game and followed the Red Sox. It has always seemed to me he was criticized more ten years after the game then in the year after the game.

Someone correct me if this is urban legend - but Buckner normally would have been pulled for defensive purposes in that situation but Mac left him in so he could be on field when they won it????

Prettr much true. Buckner wore high tops because his ankles were so bad. He iced his whole body in a hot tub full with ice to get ready to play. Usually got subbed for dave stapleton late in games.
