A new Rat Pack would help but no Hip Hop.

First, they need social media/marketing people that get it for 2020 (and beyond). Follow several casinos on twitter, and nothing I see is engaging. It's just the normal promo stuff.

    To be (fully) open.

The rest will work itself out.

All of our kids have been to Vegas. All of them enjoy it. As long as there is something for the 21-30 crowd, they will still go...things just need to evolve with their interests as we move ahead. They like the bars, some clubs, restaurants, and some gambling.

A couple of them played at the tables much longer than me. Those that did also make sports bets, which bore me to tears. I have to wait a whole game for an outcome? Give me the dice!

IMO, that never works except to experience brief nostalgia or kitsch. Or maybe I've just seen too many 50's cafes come and go. And 70's clubs. And 80's stuff. I just can't think of a successful tourist or entertainment industry that captured its next generation of customers by rehashing what it already did decades ago.

Don't get me wrong, there's a place for a little nostalgia and kitsch. But that's just a bonus. I don't see people flocking to vegas from all over the world to go to the Neon Boneyard or take a mob history tour. Not knocking those attractions (I love neon!). But if we're talking about how Vegas will change to bring in the next generation, I suspect it is going to be tied to technology or some venue/attraction that is so over the top, its one of a kind

Let's take TI as built vs. the strip-mall monstrosity it is. That's not the 345,766th 50's diner in America, it's something one-off and cool.

Yeah, because younger generations hate hip hop and love Peter Lawford :poke:

I don't disagree that the old TI was infinitely better than the current version (although I would still describe it as bit more kitschy than cool). I just don't think restoring an existing resort (any of them) to what they were a couple decades ago would capture the interest of the next generation of visitors.

The younger generation likes games. I think slots have to move more in that direction. More interactive. Skill based.

I think we get by now that you don't agree. That's cool.

To me Vegas suffers when it puts all its eggs into one basket. Sure, tech is going to change things up dramatically. But until we all experience Vegas from home with a Total Recall-type cyberexperience tech still will only go so far. Give people options, diversity. And it's going to be largely cosmetic -- and service-oriented -- since there are only so many ways to put rooms and eats around a gambling box.

I'm glad I'm in the generation I am in now. I am 56, enjoy my trips to Vegas three times a year (normally), stay at wonderful properties, eat at beautiful restaurants, have a healthy gaming budget, see an occasional show, enjoy a concert at The Smith Center, explore life outside of LVB. I enjoy comps from various casinos and have a choice of where I stay. I guess I am an old fuddy-duddy, but it works for me. I figure I have more Vegas years in me before it "turns". Then, I'm out.

Vegas will continue to re-invent itself for the coming generations - that's the beauty of it. Outdoing and overdoing new and old concepts to stay relevant. Some will work, some won't. But Vegas keeps trying!

What I would love is a Vegas premised on gambling, like it was (before my day, admittedly). Now, this will never happen, but in the short term and if it wants to survive, it probably better adjust a bit better.

I cancelled my trip for next month this morning for obvious reasons, however, I don't think a few hundred bucks in free play or a bicycle is enticing enough at this point for me to:

    1) fly across the country and possibly get sick whether in an airport/on a plane/or there
    2) likely lose thousands which I do almost everytime
    3) and have nothing to do but gambling, at tables which are restricted, are being modified into shitter rule games (apparently there's a lot more 6:5 now because they "can") at higher limits due to some perceived higher demand (which isn't accurate when 90% of casinos are open) with people who cannot interact with one another.

I like gambling, and I can get a fix driving an hour and back from me once every 3-4 months, which seems about as much "fun" as Nevada is right now.

Now, for those still going, this isn't a knock on you as I was about to do the same. I hope you're all safe.

But I suppose, finally, to answer the OP's question insofar as what Vegas needs? I don't want to say a miracle, but if cases continue to surge and the town thinks that people are going to return in droves, but this time without ancillary things to do for those whom want to do things other than gamble, or better comps for those who do gamble, it's going to need a lot more than it's current providing to get anywhere close to a modicum of business back that it had pre-covid.

It's hard enough to get people to come when 1/5 of the United States is unemployed, but it's going to be a lot harder when people are sick, scared or worse (i.e. not here).

I think you can make a strong case that casinos will go the way of the mall and whats beginning to happen with the office.
I think we are close to the high point of casino floor space. Gambling will have to go into the home, where casino companies will get over 50% of their revenue from non physical properties.
Physical camaraderie is dying, how many 5-15 years do you see running around the neighborhood playing informal group games. How often have you seen young people communicate over tech when they are less than 20 feet apart. So expensive physical buildings will go the way of tech.
    Las Vegas will slowly die.
The rotten tomatoes can now be thrown at me.

PS If the convention trade doesn't come back and it could happen, then Vegas will drastically shrink within 5 years

Free parking. Cute spots for coffee and non-alcoholic drinks. More vegan, vegetarian and organic fare. Accommodation specifically geared for groups, but still luxe.

There is no right or wrong answer to the question.

They’re playing ice hockey in the desert!!!

Super Bowl(s) ! Vegas is just starting to open up for live sports and the parties that come with them. A Super Bowl in Vegas would be historically epic and can you imagine NCAA Football / Bball Championship games, World Cup Final, NBA NHL All Star games, etc... Lots of untapped potential.
