Table Games What is it like playing table games with the plexiglass?

One month from tomorrow, we plan on heading to Vegas, staying at the Luxor. I understand that most (if not all) of the mLife properties have installed the shields on their table games, Luxor included. Just wondering if anyone has played on any of these tables and can share the experience. I mainly play blackjack and Mississippi Stud. I would imagine that having conversations with the dealer or other players at the table would be difficult. How intrusive do the shields feel? I usually rest my arms on the edge of the table and lean forward, so was wondering if I would not be able to do that with the shields in place?

IMO, not the same, not fun. Makes conversing and / or camaraderie difficult at best. Like playing BJ with a bank teller. Slide your bet through the betting slot, collect or put another bet out through the slot

 

You will be able to do that, but you will feel terribly cramped. The best positive I can state about the shields is that your chips are cut off from the people next to you so you don't have to worry about your neighbor casually taking a chip or two of yours. I felt my money was very safe. Everything else was negative. Most of all, I didn't feel any table camaraderie with the other players. It's difficult interacting with the dealers making your bets. I found no fun in playing.

 

Man, this is the best example I’ve heard so far. Makes total sense, and I agree it wat take that fun factor out.

 

I gotta say, between the dealer, other players, and eye in the sky, this has never even crossed my mind.

Now I'm curious....do others worry about this?

 

Nope, have never really worried about anyone taking my chips, and I have played at some cramped tables over the years.

 

I've seen chips get stolen off the rack twice. Once they caught the guy, once they didn't. The one that they caught the guy he was leaning on the table with arms folded in front of him and was siphoning green chips with his hand that was behind his elbow. The one that got away was really the chip owner's fault. He was all bravado with another guy playing next to him. He said he had to go to the bathroom and left his chips. Prior, I had asked him if they were brothers as they kinda looked alike. They laughed, took a swig of their beers, and started saying things like Yeah, my brother from another mother. I thought maybe half brothers or at least friends and so did the dealer. So, when the bathroom guy was away and the other guy picked up his chips and started heading towards the bathroom we didn't really think much about it. As it turned out, they didn't know each other. Guy lost a few hundred on that one.

 

I never really worry about this but I have been in casinos playing table games twice when an emergency happened. Once the power went out for about 2 or 3 minutes until the generator kicked on and the 2nd time was during an active shooter in the high limit room I was playing in. Both times the players on the table cared more about protecting their own chips than stealing from another player or the house. During the blackout it was so funny when the lights came on all the players were in the same position laying on top of their chips. I often leave my chips in my spot when going to the bathroom unless I have a lot out there like a few purples or yellows then I'll take those with me, but less than $500 I just leave that unattended and never had a problem.

Played 21 at the Orleans with a friend and it was difficult to talk with each other so if you're playing to be social then you'll hate it.

 

The was the nail in the coffin on my trip. I have a tendency to physically pick people up when the table gets hot, ask @smerrian - this is dangerous around Plexiglas. Oh, but I did hear Caesars properties were not using Plexiglas.

 

@EastCoastVegasFan! is about 6'4" and in shape. Yes, when he gets excited about winning he literally scouts out the closest female (whom 9 out of 10 times he's already been flirting with) and bear hugs her and picks her up. They love it. Not one that I have seen has ever left his gravitational pull. This is what I read into it: They think how wonderful it would be to be flopped around in bed by this big strong guy in an evening of passionate lust. But, that's just my take on it. I'm supposed to be the wing man but 1)he doesn't need a wing man, and 2) I wouldn't know how to be a wing man as I obviously can't surmise a coke addict from a good catch.

Was in Tunica last weekend. Gold Strike had plexiglass between dealers and players, but not between players. Horseshoe had no plexiglass at all.

 

Guilty of this as well, lol.

Be ready to wack your head on the plexiglass. I did when we were in AC last weekend. After that I started taking notice to all of the smudges on the plexiglass. Apparently I am definitely not the only one that has done this.

I think the sit down games like BJ and UTH would be manageable. For stand up games like roulette and craps it seemed to be a bigger issue.

The usual table camaraderie and small talk is pretty much gone, which like others have said definitely takes away from the experience.

 

They took something that was very social, into the most unsocial thing.

My resting heart rate is normally 84bpm, wearing a mask all day in the casino, I was 102-104bpm just playing slots.

 

I think it's mostly a problem at craps.

At craps, I've seen railbirds in action get caught and I had a guy playing next to me swipe my pass line bet right off the table once. First time he did it, I didn't notice, I didn't get paid when a point hit, and I thought I just forgot to put my bet out. Second time, I caught on what was happening. He was swiping my bet when I turned and bent down to take a slug from my drink on the ledge. I was positioned right next to a dealer, too, so he didn't see anything (or at least say anything)

If I'm not positioned next to a dealer, I keep a finger on each side of my stack at all times. I try to play at a position with a dealer on one side so presumably I don't have to protect that side.
