Back when I was in college I remember these flyers offering "High paying summer jobs" on a potato farm in Idaho and I knew some of the kids who went for this.

Most of their glorious summer vacation in Idaho (as in "where the hell is Idaho?") was more like hauling, loading, and sorting the potatoes in the processing barns and I heard all of the horror stories. They were saying that those instant mashed potato mixes used, quite literally, the floor sweepings, so stay away. I remember that they said one brand "Potato Buds", but I have not seen that in decades, used actual good potatoes in them. I also remember them saying that Pringles used the lower grades as well.

No, I worked at Kelsey-Hayes at Front and Olney. Same type of work at a smaller plant. Very dangerous. I worked the same exact press for 5 consecutive years. One day this huge flywheel broke off it’s axle and missed me by about two feet. That was the beginning of the end.

But you know, all of this stuff led me to my 30 year career working for the Navy.

Great story! But could you have ended up married in Idaho if he'd tipped you $25?

One slight correction. I worked FOR the Navy as a civilian. I served IN the Air Force.

I see Kevin Costner playing me.

I was thinking more of Ashton Kutcher playing you and Kevin Costner playing your cranky superior officer in Part I, your Navy/Air Force career. (Hey, that kinda sounds familiar.)

I was thinking more of Debra Winger playing The Girl. (Wait! That kinda sounds familiar too.) :)
