I was just curious how some of the regular craps players set the dice before throwing them or do you not even do that? Do you have a place where you want the dice to land each time on the table or do you just throw the dice? For me I prefer to have the dice showing 3-3 at the top and 5-5 on the side while the dice are together. I try my best to land the dice behind where the odds bets are. It hard to explain how I hold the dice. I would post a image but I don't think the forum allows you to post images.

I throw whatever the stick sends me.

I usually set up a Flying V 3-3 but sometimes do a 2-3 or 4-4. The one thing that I don’t do but see other shooters do is stacking the dice offset so they aren’t perfectly aligned on the edges. Anybody stack and throw? I think the grip and rip would be kinda awkward vs the backhand claw grip I use for the Flying V.

As for where I aim. I generally launch the dice so they land on the dont players stack ;). Kidding. I love darksiders and all their smirks and silent angst.

I usually aim them to land around pass line/odds area or far side of the come. I like them bones to have a little roll out. I’ve also launched them so they hit either just above or below the base of the wall and sometimes you get this awesome effect of the dice just stopping right there on an awesome number like a hardway or the point. You feel like a crack shot when that happens. But nothing is as gut wrenching as when they just land dead with the ol 7 staring back at you. That’s why I am happy when they “get legs” and meander around a bit.

I’ve also found that anywhere near the dealer chip stack is a bad place for the dice to end up. If they are between the dealer and his stack then chances are (for me at least) that number is a 7. Superstitions. Craps. Love it!

BTW- I’ve also hit more than my fair share of people right in the freaking face if I’m a few spots L/R of stick but not on the ends. My backhand eagle claw throw can easily go offline. The booze may play a factor too.

I tend to have my dice set 5/4-5/6 set (with 5s on top and 4/6 facing me with thumb placed on them). I like to aim for the Don’t Come area in the hook since very few bets get placed there. On occasion I will throw the dice stacked or inline, but my bias says I don’t get results for my way of betting.

I don't set them. But I do have my own little habitual behavior.

I pick them up, and drop them from a few inches. If they land seven, I repeat. Anything else, I pick 'em up again and shoot. I don't believe it makes any difference for my play. It's just a routine.

I actually had that happen to me at the Old Coast. And every time they 7'd out, I'd raise my beer to them.

Even numbers on top and facing me. But never a hard way.

I throw from the furthest distance....straight up.

High arc....try to land 4 to 6 inches away from wall.

    Works for me...

Position left of the stick. Either the V or the sixes together. Medium arc to the right side of the wall. History tells me I roll a lot of 5s and 9s.

Back when I was able to play...
I just picked them up and tossed them avoiding the chip stacks at the other end.
I've had various results all over the place.... everything between immediate 7 outs to small heaters.
In addition to my tosses and watching others meticulously (painfully slowly) set the dice, I just don't
    believe setting makes any difference.

I haven't been doing this for much more than a year, but I've noticed improvement in my shooting. On come out I set 4/4 on top with 5/1 or 6/2 facing me I tend to roll more 7s with that set after 4/5 with 5/6 facing me. Although I bet mostly the 6 and 8 I tend to roll numbers all over the board. I just aim for close to the wall at place with no chips. Works for me. Your results may vary.

Feeling like trying a 7 set for the first time on next trip, for comeouts, maybe with a two way on Big Red, player control & parlayed...
maybe I'll report some distorted memories or impressions of how it goes.

I am ambidextrous, so I use one hand for the come out roll and the other hand for all the other rolls until I 7 out or get the point. I am a fast grab and throw type of guy, so I have hit a few hands that were slow to leave the playing field.

Plying 3-V with 6 and 1 on the opposite sides. Elegant swing of the arm and hitting right on the corner of the teeth.
Does it work? Hell if I know. But I'd rather do that than be a monopoly dice thrower.

For no particular reason, if I set them at all, it will be an 11...otherwise, however they come to me (except for a 7).
Then, if the crew will let me, I cup my hand over them, roll them around a few times under my hand, pick 'em up & line-drive them to the back-wall, right corner...they typically end up in the Field Bet area.
