    My Trip Report

We just returned from Atlantic City after a 3 night stay at Caesars. We stayed Sunday thru Wednesday. @Wallew covered it very well in what to expect if you go to AC. Thanks for your write up Wallew!

While we visit AC often, we are low rollers and rarely receive any comps during summer months. Typically we only find a Friday comp during summer so this was a bonus trip for us and really cannot compare our stay to more normal times in summers past.

We arrived Sunday around 1PM. We entered Caesars from the parking garage and encountered a security guard who had us read 4 questions and as long as we answered no to them we were able to enter. He told us in the future just tell the guards no to all 4 questions as this would save time for us and the guards at the entry. They did have masks available for those who did not have one. No mask, no entry.

Many slot machines were turned off to provide proper distancing. Most table games had plexi glass affixed to them. Quick observation was minimums were higher than usual. i.e Craps was $15 minimum, at times $25 at Caesars. The wild wild west tables were $10 minimum (they are usually $5). Bally’s did have a $10 Craps table on Tuesday. Most times the tables were full due to limited spacing. We did not play tables during this trip.

Since we did not attempt to check in at this point we headed to the boardwalk to one of our favorite dessert stands – Polish Ice. We grabbed a couple cups and found a shady area and ate them after our 3 hour drive from central PA to AC.

The majority (65%+) of people were wearing masks while on the boardwalk.

Then we headed to Tropicana and checked out the place. When we entered we were directed to read some questions and if they didn’t apply we just entered. No temp check here.

I hit a quick $50 on pick a pair poker. A player on the other side of the bank of machines made a very happy noise while elbowing anyone who was in sight. He was playing a $2 video poker machine and hit a royal. Good for him!

Trop was less busy then what I’m used to seeing.

We cashed out and headed to the sand and walked the beach/surf to just beyond Bally’s and enjoyed the beach crowds. Most people were mask less as they were playing in the ocean but were attempting social distancing. I stayed masked up on my walk.

We checked in and were promptly headed to our ocean view centurion tower room. Check in was a touchless process. We placed our ID’s on the counter and swiped our CC at the desk with plexiglass between us and the clerk. At check in we were provided a sealed bag with 2 paper masks, hand wipes and a card stating the “Stay, Dine and Play Health & Safety Protocols.

There was a wait at the elevators (4 to an elevator) but soon we were in our room.

There was a mini bar set up at the elevator bank staffed by one person selling canned/bottled beer/ciders to take to your room. This bar was not staffed Tuesday.

The rooms had the coffee pot, pens, note pads, room service menus and bed runners removed due to COVID. The ice bucket and 2 disposable cups were still in the room. I did not seek out ice. I requested housekeeping during our stay.

We headed to Bally’s sack o subs and ordered dinner. We returned to our room and ate our freshly caught bounty. We ended up gambling for a bit after dinner and retired to our room after a nice travel day.

    · No smoking in the casino was a nice change for us nonsmokers as we could play machines we normally could not due to the smoke clouds.

    · No drink service on the floor was disappointing but not a game changer.

    · The boardwalk people shuttle was not running.

    · Push carts were available in limited service. (as you know those people shuttles basically put the carts out of business).

    · If you wanted sit down outdoor service you needed to make reservations the day before. Looking at you Harrys oyster bar. (we didn’t)

    · There were lines for take out everywhere – not surprising.

    · Caesars and Ballys were the cleanest I’ve ever seen them (not Hard Rock clean) mostly due to the no smoking or drinking ban.

    Other highlights were:

Monday morning we had a sit down outdoor breakfast at the hookah place near Trop. Good service, good food. I felt bad for one lady who asked to be moved then requested her food to go as she didn’t feel comfortable sitting among people. I didn’t have that fear as I felt good with the distance of the tables.

Monday after the beach, since Harry's was full we headed to Guys Fieri’s’ chop house. They have a seating area on the roof of Bally’s. 6th floor where the spa was. We did not have reservations but we were seated promptly. The person at the podium stated they do not advertise to the public and reservations are through the hotel. We had a great relaxing meal. Excellent service. We split a wedge salad and 16 oz boneless ribeye with a side of sweet potato.

Tuesday morning we walked to Hard Rock to get a white house sub for the beach. Wallew nailed it – clean is an understatement. I also had a nice hit and run at one machine. Tuesday night after a day at the beach we went to Primo Pizza at Bally’s and got a meat lovers pizza. Good solid food.

Our gambling was good. We actually came home with more than we took.

    · Funny story, I got my ass handed to me Tuesday night, so I went to cash out a meager winning ticket but as fate may have it the cash out kiosk was full. So being impatient and a good social distancing person I pull out a $10 and sit at my favorite Caesars slot and on my second spin hit for $160. That made my trip.

    A lowlight was:

After Tuesday at the beach we returned to our room and upon entering the room (non-smoking) smelled like Cheech and Chong/Snoop Dog spent some time there. That’s a first for us.

We reported that upon check out just in case someone decided to charge us for smoking in a non-smoking room.

    Trip end:

Before we headed home we stopped at another favorite - A Rando Bakery (edit) to grab some sub rolls and pizza dough then headed to Tony Baloney's for subs for the road to eat at the Farley Travel Plaza.

Business must be bad because the sign at Farley stated they close at 8 PM AND Starbucks was even closed Wednesday around 1PM when we stopped.

Hit a bit of traffic in Philly otherwise the trek home was uneventful.

Thanks for reading this long winded write up.

Is it me, or did they change the configuration of the craps tables at Caesars?

The craps tables are still in the same place. Maybe my photo was confusing as it was taken going up the escalator. Thanks B5191F7B-015A-43DA-A53A-96EEE9F0C993.jpeg

Nice trip report. Glad you were able to eek out some decent food offerings during your stay. The pizza and the cheese steak looked awesome. The lady with white high socks and 2 different shoes was funny as hell; right out of a Wal-martians video.

Great trip report Fet, an enjoyable read. Thanks for the heads up about Harry’s reservation protocol. I guess they don’t have buck a shuck anymore. But if you want some oysters, fresh or frozen seafood for the ride back home, make a pit stop at Casino Lobster Company in Pleasantville. A couple weeks ago they had 100 oysters for $45, just fill up your cooler with ice, make a mignonette from champagne vinegar and shallots and grab an oyster knife. Yum!

Sack o’ Subs is a local chain and I heard that the owner learned his sub skills working at White House. Just up the street and next door to Angelo’s is A. Rando Bakery, about 100+ years old. Their bread is similar to Formica, classic long, pale loaves typical of Atlantic City. This is where I pick up pizza shells that are pre cooked and awaiting the toppings of one’s choice. They are pre-seasoned with a little oil and spices and they freeze well.

Glad to see you made it to the beach, a frequently overlooked amenity that remains my #1 draw.

Thanks for the information. Apparently I had my favorite bakery wrong - we were at A Rando Bakery and we never knew about the pizza shells. I’ll have to edit my post. Sack of Subs are definitely on par with White House. Delicious for sure. My wife loves the beach and we find AC beach to be under rated by many. I suspect if one is uncomfortable around minorities and foreigners this is not the beach to come to. We love the diversity and have had many positive interactions with people who don’t look like us but are just there enjoying a day at the beach like us!

Tonight I made 3 pizza’s using the shells, they are $2 each and I always shred the mozzarella by hand, don’t use the pre-shredded stuff if you can avoid it. That stuff has anti caking starch, and while it’s OK to use, the 1 lb. pack of Galbani shredding cheese is as good as it gets, IMHO. It’s a bit more firm than some of the other softer mozzarella brands.

We enjoy the AC beach as well, the neighborhood called Lower Chelsea just a few blocks north of Ventnor City is a great beach, very quiet, a restroom nearby, and never crowded. No beach tag fee either. And you’re right, it’s completely under rated.

Casino Lobster Co. recently opened up to retail sales since the restaurant business has fallen off so much.

Edit, here is a photo of the pizza shell

Thanks for reading. I agree about the shoes, I did a double take and couldn’t take a picture fast enough. Wearing my mask covered my laugh well.

I love Whitehouse subs and any Jersey shore pizza shop. Now I know I am heading to Wildwood for at least 5 days, I need my fix. On the way or back home stop at Claymont (Delaware) Steak shop for a large cheesesteak loaded and maybe a pizza and if time permits a stop at Booths Corner farmers market with all the Amish goodies.

Thanks for the write up. Happy you were able to take advantage of the comps they are currently offering and took some $$$ home to boot. Based on your write up and @Wallew comments, I think we may wait a little longer and see what happens before going to AC. But I know those reports gave us some good names to eat at that are not in the casinos.

I think some geographical places don't put lettuce on a sub. Also, I believe, if you want lettuce, tomato and mayo you ask for it 'dressed'. Here in South Jersey subs always come with lettuce, tomato and oil. I always ask for "No oil, mayo instead."
