Chicago suburb, grocery store/restaurant, had a "Polish Wedding" buffet. Kielbasa, kraut, ham, fried chicken, mostaciolli (spp?) In meat sauce, pickled herring in sour cream sauce, potato pancakes, etc. I waddled out of the place.

Interesting. Live only a few miles from there. But eating it that well done? Hmmm

And near the end of that video, a Facebook commenter said "Phil's Pizza" for best "medium crust". That's one of M's favorites. But you better like cheese as they put a ton on. I tend to eat the ends with less cheese.

Grew up on the northwest side of Chicago...so many great places to eat!!!!

Italian beef: While Portillo's is good, nothing beats a beef sammich from one of the independent stops throughout the city. My favorite is Roma's on Cicero, between Irving Park and Montrose. Fresh cut fries as well!!!

Pizza: Personally, I like all kids of pizza: thin crust, pan/deep dish pizza, and stuffed pizza! Pequod's on Clybourn is amazing for pan pizza!!!! Uno's in downtown also has amazing deep dish! Giordano's has great stuffed pizza. For thin crust, Father and Son on Milwaukee Ave. is really good.

Burgers: Hand's Down, the original Kuma's Corner on Belmont. Amazing burgers!!!!!!!

Dogs: For a regular Chicago Dog with fresh cut fries, Susie's on Montrose is excellent! For a different take on a Chicago Dog, try Super Dawg on Devon. THE BEST dogs ever, with fresh cut crinkle fries!!!! YUM!!!!!

Having been to Chicago for many Polish weddings, funerals and Christmases...uggg. Luckily I still had the aforementioned Vito and Nick's (although the family I grew up with called it Nick and Vito's) and at least one Italian beef sandwich (I think the place in Oak Lawn we'd get these was called Michael A's) per trip to look forward to.

Garrett's popcorn is very good !!!!

I was going to ask you if you were on your way to visit my daughter when you said 2 blocks from Wrigley Field lol. But they don't have an SUV. We were supposed to join them for a baseball game this summer. Oh well.

And that Polish Wedding buffet sounds a lot like Wisconsin food.....

I really like Harrahs Joliet, although I feel like it is a small casino. Hotel was very decent. Not a top Vegas hotel, but clean and comfortable. Very similar to Harrah's Council Bluffs.

Oh Roma’s, it’s still around? Went there often when I was a kid because my father worked nearby. Yes I remember it being good. Also yes to Superdawg, which you also mentioned and which not only has great hot dogs, but carhop service!

Went to college in Chicago and whenever I'm back there it's Gibson's Steakhouse, Gino's East for deep dish, and Cafe Babareeba for Tapas. For other deep dish lovers the best pizza in the world is Papa Del's in Champaign, IL and nothing else comes close.

Yes, Roma's is still there! We try to stop there whenever we are visiting or passing through Chicago.

I feel for you. Ideally we would be going in the next couple of weeks to catch both the Cubs and White Sox play. I know it’s all the way in December, but now we are maybe rethinking April or May so we can make that happen and maybe the world will be a little more normal. Thanks for the info!

You can take Lake Shore Drive and avoid the toll.
Horseshoe is the nicest and largest casino near Chicago, I would compare the ambiance inside to maybe a mix of Monte Carlo and Caesars, glitzy a lot of gold but no particular theme. Very high ceilings, a lot of food offerings. Honestly the gaming floor is larger than most Vegas casinos they have poker, sports book, high limit rooms, you will be pleasantly surprised. Weeknights table limits are around $10-15, weekends more like $15-25 but you can find a seat unlike Rivers where you have to wait for a seat. Because it is Indiana smoking is allowed at tables but some tables are non smoking and there is a non smoking slot section. They have a very large buffet similar to the one at Planet Hollywood.

For local junk food, if you find yourself in Northwest Indiana look up a place called Zel's Roast Beef, they have something called a Chili Cheese Beef, its french fries topped with Italian beef, cheese and chili. Heart attack in a Styrofoam container but pretty good. Also if you have never had a White Castle there is one right down the street from Horseshoe that is open 24 hours.

Also noteworthy since you are coming in December there is a Christmas Market in Wrigleyville and Daley Plaza that is a lot of fun and worth checking out. Handcrafted goods, food, ice skating, etc. http://www.christkindlmarket.com/wrigleyville/

+1 for Lou Malnati's (the Chicago Classic is my fav), but I also really like Giordano's and Gino's East for deep dish.
Portillo's is solid and consistent, but I'd actually give the nod to Al's beef personally. Those are bigger chains. I'd imagine any of the "mom and pop shops" would serve up a great Italian beef.

Bert's Place and The Art of Pizza are great, too.

Waiting patiently for the 290 East ramp from 94 to open so I can take that route. I hadn't been to the Horseshoe since January but drove down last night, hoping to take Lakeshore Drive and avoid the Skyway.

I will occasionally get off on Stoney Island Parkway and take 106th east to Indianapolis, but that is kind of a gritty drive, too.
