I’m headed to Vegas In late July. One of my favorite things about Vegas is dressing up before going out. Love wearing dress pants and dress shirt with a nice watch. Knowing that most of the clubs will be closed I’m curious are people still dressing up after say 8pm?

This implies that people were dressing up in the first place.

Heading out July 8 and will leave my dress shoes home. Only reason for them was access to the clubs...

Where are you going dressed up unless a restaurant?

Back in the 1970s, visitors to Las Vegas did dress up in the evening. Long dresses were common, and at minimum, nicer coordinates. Jacket and tie for the guys. The nicer restaurants and the shows would not seat you if you were casual in the evenings.

Things started to relax in the 1980s, but people often times did dress up, and I would say that held up until about 9/11.

Nowadays it seems like "No shirt, no shoes, no problem" in most places. :)

Clubwear is the norm (or was before the pandemic) for the younger set at the clubs, and actually, somebody who is dressed up will not look out of place.

Look at that other thread for examples of some more unusual outfits that are now commonplace in Las Vegas.

if dressing up means putting pants on, or wearing any clothes, I would guess half of the people are still dressing up.

I will be! I also don't do the club scene and just dress up to look nice, so....

I'd say people still do - fancy dinners, night out on the town.

I think 'dressing up' is a spectrum. On one end we have flip-flops and pajama pants in public. At the other end, get all Gucci n'bougie. So it sort of depends on your starting point. Back on the rural route, if you wore a shirt that DIDN'T have your name stitched over pocket and were sporting a tie the size of a tablecloth, you were 'dressed up'. Over in Deanland, Vegas 'dress up' is nothinig but dockers & a polo. Then again, there's the very real possibility that we just run in different circles while in Vegas.

The great thing about his place is you can dress the way you want and noone gives a hoot, and you shouldn't give a hoot about what others might think of you. If we are staying overnight we always look sharp in the evening as dmr said, like 70s tradition. My wife will wear a long dress, sometimes kinda casual, and I will wear a collar and slacks often with a casual blazer. We like the way it makes us feel, even if we are going down to the bar to play bar tops and get plastered, or if we are going to dinner and a show.

Dress up for Vegas. It just makes the whole experience a little more special.

If I go to a restaurant with white table cloth, I think it would be appropriate to refrain from wearing just a T shirt and shorts and clogs. Just my opinion, though I've seen people wear just that many times.
Added: I think that if they're dressing up the table for me, I can return the favor.

I'm going to piggy-back on this question with my own question (I hope that's ok).

I am going in August and originally had plans for the evening for dinner. Those plans are no longer so I will truly be solo the 4 nights I'm there. I'm *not* going to eat at a fancy restaurant by myself. It's just not happening. But, I already ordered dresses for every night I'm in Vegas. They were delivered and I love them...I feel like I look like a million bucks, but should I get dressed up just to play slots and have a drink at the bar? Is that completely pathetic? :p I should add that I have worked HARD to get into my goal size and part of my reward for my trip was going to be new dresses for dinners with friends...but with all the rules and mandates I can't meet up with my friends and eat with them, so. And, no, I won't be delaying my trip unless the casino's actually shut down.

Ladies, especially, what would you do? :rolleyes2:. Will I look out of place and silly?

One of my favorite things about Vegas is that you can be equally comfortable in a t-shirt and shorts as you are dressed up in cocktail attire. You can't always get into the same restaurants with the shorts and t-shirt, but nobody will look at you sideways for being either casual or fancy.

Wear what makes you happy. Just be sure you have comfortable shoes. :wink2:

Personally, I would prolly do jeans/shorts and a tee.

No, you will not look out of place and silly. Las Vegas is one place where it's probably impossible to overdress. On any evening you'll see everything from nonfashionable grungy casual to formal. Of course, with the pandemic, all bets are off. I really don't know what they are wearing since the reopening.

I always dress for evenings in Vegas. There are so few opportunities to dress up anymore, I don’t want to miss the chance in Vegas.

Wife and I like to dress up too. Never looks out of place in Vegas IMO. When I see people dress up I just assume they have some fun plans and makes me jealous haha. And who knows, maybe you end up with some fancy dinner plans after all :feedme:

I travel solo. I like dressing up and heading out to a nice restaurant. I like wearing a cocktail dress while playing slots and drinking cocktails because Hello! Vegas! So I may be biased. :D

I enjoy when people get dressed up in Vegas. It brings a little class to the casino...
