My brother is going to be staying at Aliante for the next couple days. Any information on gambling conditions would be appreciated. Is $5 BJ available that's mainly what he likes and some VP? He's out there to help move an airman who is being deployed and Aliante is close by.

    Thanks in advance,

    TomTWI

I haven't been since December 2017, but at that time on a weeknight there was plenty of $5 double deck blackjack and $5 craps.

We were in the Aliante casino a few weeks ago. As far as I could tell all blackjack was 15 dollar min. bet. Craps was 10 dollar min. bet. Overall the vibe was very down. Few people in masks. Quiet more like 3:00 am on a wed. night. But this was around 8:00 p.m. on a fri.

FYI my brother reports there was at least one $10 BJ table but he didn't see any $5.

Seems like these casinos are not trying hard to get people to come back in and gamble -- Aliante used to have plenty of $5 tables (although some of the $5 Blackjack tables were 6:5; and others were the Blackjack carny games with additional bets). Did they have the other tables like PaiGow and UTH open? Or just Blackjack?

Sorry he didn't do a comprehensive report. They spent almost all their time moving and packing.

I know that most places that had $5 tables moved things to $10 to make up for having half as many players (or less at craps). This seems to make sense, but still is disappointing.

I don't see that a casino would take in 2X as much with a $10 table than a $5 table...the reason being that even if you have a $5 minimum on your table, you're likely to get players betting much more than that...at $5 PaiGow I often see $25 bets or even $100 bets...the casino might take in a little more, but it's not going to be double what they'd take in with a $5 minimum..(they are still going to get the same higher bets whether it's a $5 table or a $10 table).. And the good will they lose by raising the table minimum will be greater than the few extra bucks they skim off the players..

The Youtube Channel ColorUp talks about the casino in profit per hour.

Not to get too far in the weeds. They expect that a $5 bet on the 5 which has a 4% house advantage and an average of 28 decisions per hour would yield the casino about 5.60 per hour. If there are 6 people at the table, they casino would net around $30 per hour. At a full 16 person table, if everyone bets the 5, they would make close to $80 per hour.

Since they can only have 6 players, they seem to be raising the minimum to make up for the house edge being lost. Going to 10 with 6 people would give them $11/hour on the 5. It's about making enough money to pay for the table.

I don't agree with it. But all 3 casinos within in hour with me either went from 5 -> 10 or their normal 10 -> 15.

I sent an email to Aliante yesterday and got a response this morning - during the week the pit is open 10AM-2AM, weekends 24 hours. So during the week they have basically eliminated the graveyard shift - the daytime shift used to come on at 11AM so they moved that up one hour... Now I have several hours to kill when I'm in Vegas since I used to get there between 6:30-7AM... I guess I'll be taking a long breakfast and play some video poker until they open up the pit now...

Curious to know the craps minimums and any other carnival games that you see. I appreciate the info!

I only asked about PaiGow and was told that at least 1 PaiGow table is open when the pit is open. I assume that Ultimate Texas Hold 'em, Craps and Blackjack are open.

This is what I received back from them:

I can answer your other questions a little better when I have a good idea when you are coming and can see what offers you have which would now include Aliante. With our current limitation on the spots we can have on each game we do not have $5 tables right now.

I guess I should have asked about table minimums then too...Boyd is just asking to fail if they no longer have $5 tables...Even during the day shift, it was pretty rare that there were more than 3 or 4 players most at Pai Gow anyway. So that excuse is a bunch of crap. And although I was playing $5 at a $5 Pai Gow table, quite often one of the other players was playing $25 a hand, or even $100 a hand, or two hands at $100 a hand. You could have a $1 table minimum & you'd still have people playing $100 a hand. So in my opinion, raising the table minimum doesn't really bring much more cash in to the house..
The majority of the time I get to Aliante at 6:30AM, I'm the only one in the pit...sometimes the only one IN THE CASINO! So which way would the house make more money? One person playing $5 a hand or NO ONE playing anything?

At 6:30 am They loose less money by keeping table closed. But I get your point, I'd keep them low and raise to $10 when and if tables start to fill up.

with only one player playing $5 / hand at a $5 table, they are losing money and not even covering the cost of the (2) dealers ( relief dealer) and Supervisor in expected return. I agree with the above that the casino is better off keeping the table closed

With only one player playing at the table at $5 a hand, they typically make as much as $100 an hour on me...I actually am playing $9 a hand as I put the $1 on the Progressive and typically play $3 on the bonus bet (both of which rarely pay off). If I get there at 6:30AM and then have breakfast (back when the buffet was not closed down and they opened at 8AM) at 8AM, it was really rare that the casino didn't take me for close to $100 in that hour & a half. The idea that the casino only makes $5.60 an hour off a $5 player is ridiculous..unless I hit a really good hand every hour (like a Royal Flush or a Straight Flush or 4OAK) I lose $100 or more every hour to the House. In the 10+ years I've been playing PaiGow, I've only hit a Royal twice in all of that time. If I'm lucky I hit one Straight Flush or 4OAK each trip of 2 days... if there really are 28 hands played in a typical hour, then that's $112 profit for the casino if I don't hit a hand that pays a bonus or progressive.

For BJ, 28 hands an hour would be for a full table of 6 players. Just one player at a table is over 100+ hands an hour

I'll have to count hands now the next time I play Pai Gow to see how many hands I play in an hour when I'm alone at the table...I expect it would be under 50...I take my time setting my hand (at least 30 seconds minimum) and when you add in rolling the dice, pulling all the hands out of the shuffler, etc., I think we're up over a minute a hand...and if the dealer & I are talking, that takes up time too... Bottom line is that if I'm the only player in the pit, I think I easily pay the pit boss' salary, the dealer's salary, and a good amount of the casino's costs if I typically lose close to $100 an hour at the $5 Pai Gow table... I've seen players lose $1000+ easily in an hour when they are betting $25-100 a hand.

Pai Gow is different and does take more time, I was referencing playing BJ solo with the dealer
