I get people asking me a lot lately if they should go. I have no idea how to determine that for someone else. You need to look at your own risk factors, and the risk to the people around you at home. Then look at what practices you can do to limit your time of exposure, mask usage, etc. And then decide the safety level and whether or not you're comfortable with that.

I think people also need to look at what they are expecting out of a trip. What are the things you enjoy most about Vegas and is that available to you right now? If you're a nightclub or pool party person, nope. If you like shows and concerts, nope. If you like cramming into a crowded craps table for hours and hours, probably not like you would prefer it. But if you want a low-key and strange Vegas trip, this might be the time to do it. But really, only you can answer this question for yourself.

I’m bouncing back-and-forth, I’m really waiting to see if the governor closes the pools, in which case, it will be an easy decision for me to cancel.

I have a trip scheduled for the week of July 20 and have only recently started questioning whether I'll take it; however, Sonya's post helped provide some clarity. My Vegas trips are always on the low-key side of things anyway, so the lack of action right now doesn't have much of an impact.

I was also booked for a Monday departure. Like OP, it sure looked a lot more promising a few weeks ago when rezzie was made. After assessing the current situation, I bailed on trip. Hated to because of strong desire to return, along with $66 Allegiant RT from a local airport and $49/nite no resort fee at Sahara.
Consolation trip is Great River Road from Quad-Cities to St. Louis.

Just make sure if you commit to going to not have the iffy mentality and have a "I'm going to make the most out of this trip" mentality. This will help your experience. IF you go into the trip with a negative mentality then you will constantly be looking for things to ding Vegas on when more emphasis should be put on the little things that make Vegas great. Regardless of your choice I will hope you do a TR to bring us all along. @FuzzyDiceCraps

Agree with the comment above about a dry run.
I'm assuming you've worn a mask for long periods and maybe been to your local casino?
I recommend wearing your face covering of choice for an hour or two or however long you plan to be playing a session so you know what to expect.
If you decide to go be safe and have fun.
If you decide to not go now I'd shoot for spring.

Fellow Columbus resident going through the same dilemma, but for August. I go back and forth daily, particularly with the current spike. I have pretty much landed on going (as things in the world stand today), with the recognition that a lot can change during the next 40+ days, prior to leaving and I may not know for sure until a week before the trip.

A few random thoughts for myself, everyone is different when going through their decision making process:

Not too concerned about air travel. Flying Delta 1st class, and they are capping @ 50%. Taking all of the proper protocols, I feel ok about flying.

My trip is solo. I feel that I can social distance, and will avoid any situations that I feel are risky (ie crowded areas). Plan to spend more time at the pool, and the Paris pool deck is large and spread out, conducive to social distancing.

Plan to wear a mask everywhere, and take all of the normal precautions. Might be uncomfortable or a hassle, but I am willing to make that trade off in order to feel safe there.

Plan to avoid table games. Love the play LIR and 3 Card poker, but not worth the risk (unless at one of those plexiglass tables). Probably will play more slots or VP this trip.

I expect that this will be a very different trip, lacking the regular Vegas vibe that we all love. I can accept that this time, and will adjust accordingly. Air is paid for (already have too much air credits from trips cancelled earlier this year, don't need another one) . With the exception of one night out of six, room is comped, so I won't feel like I am wasting money if I spend more time at the pool or in the room.

Sorry for the long-winded answer. Wanted to put my thoughts out there - helps to see them in an organized manner. And reading others' perspective has helped, so wanted to share. At the end of the day, we all have to make our own decisions based on our risk tolerances, risk factors, and steps we can take to mitigate.

Hi everyone! I love reading everyone’s reports and advice! I know that there are so many reasons not to travel right now, and there are many risks. That being said, I am on the fence about our upcoming trip on July 6. We currently wear masks whenever we go to out. I am a little worried about being able to tolerate one in the 107 degree heat of LV. My question for those actually there now is, do you have to wear it outside walking on the strip when you are not right next to other people? I have read conflicting reports about them being mandated in public indoor spaces and all public spaces which I am worried means outdoors along the strip. Is there anyone enforcing this outside along strip? Thanks again for your help :)

I don't expect this will help with the decision.

I'm behaving exactly the same. I have a trip in two weeks. I'll change my mind daily then hourly until the day before. It's hard to commit to a permanent "no" regarding something I associate with fun, even joy. But my gut, online videos, this board, the changing access, all indicate that going will be a letdown.

I'm leaning closer and closer to not going. The final decision will likely be related to how much I need the break from my home & work routine, and whether a potential less-than-ideal Vegas getaway would be enough.

So... no help. Unless there's some comfort in knowing others are experiencing the same go-or-no-go stewing.

Thanks for the all the responses. I think there is indeed a great deal of comfort in knowing others are having the same debates and hearing your own thoughts echoed back to you by others.

My position literally changes every few hours, but this morning I woke up extremely excited to be at Vegas, and even thought if I were in Vegas I'd be having "breakfast drinks" at a craps table or VP bar right now. I think that tells me all I need to know. I'm currently doing laundry in preparation for the trip, and although my flight is cancelable with a refund until Sunday (and everything else is comped), so my thoughts could change, barring a new development I foresee being on the road to CMH Monday morning at 5 am!

I went over the weekend of June 19 because I could sense what was coming down the pipeline. I literally booked my hotel the day before we left. That trip seemed somewhat close to normal, or rather I sought out as much normal as I could. I cancelled my trip in October for just the reasons you are mentioning. If I don't anticipate enjoying a trip, I'm not spending money on it. I gave up a 60% off Skyloft and a almost free Penthouse at Mandalay Bay because of it.

In the end, you have to make the call on what works best for you. A Vegas where I feel restricted isn't Vegas for me. Maybe it is for you. Good luck in whatever you choose.

The only way I'll cancel my trip next Friday is if they shut down again which I highly doubt. I didn't mind the slower vibe in Vegas back in March.. I expect it to be a little busier next week then it was in March.

I, too, am thinking and re-thinking my July and August trips, especially in light of the quarantine requirements several states are instituting after travel from "surging" states. I live in Texas, one of the surging states, and am concerned that a quarantine requirement might be instituted either before or during my planned trips. I will wait to make a last minute decision, but am leaning toward cancelling the trips.

Great info in this chain, thanks to all. I’m a mid-50’s healthy male living in northern Washington State, and have been to Vegas about 60 times. Cancelled my last planned trip in mid-March when things fell to pieces, and re-booked for mid-July (Cosmo/Cal) early last month when the re-opening was announced, and things looked pretty stable. Now very much on the fence about cancelling this trip, but here’s my thinking if I go:

Precautions: I’ve been wearing KN95 masks every time I go out for several months, and would on the plane and in Vegas as well. I’m a fast drinker so would swig my beverage in 2 minutes, then put the mask back on. I would eat outside as much as possible, but limited options (especially for breakfast) plus 100 degree temps will make this challenging. I’m travelling solo so would adjust my schedule and locations to avoid crowds (travelling mid-week, will start gambling around 8am and quit around 9pm before the drunken louts appear). Will assess if bubble craps or the real thing is safer (maybe neither) but am happy to focus on slots/VP at safe distances. Not a pool or club person so no worries there. Will avoid karaoke bars (something I really love) because that one on Fremont looks like a death trap – can’t believe it hasn’t been shut down. Of course will rigorously follow other hygiene recommendations. Finally, I am planning a 14-day self-quarantine upon my return, although it’s not currently mandated in WA.

So this combination sounds reasonable to me – I may be crazy but I’m not stupid. Of course there are some show-stoppers that may happen in the next 10 days that are out of my control, including: Allegiant cancels my flights; Cosmo/California shut down or drink service is suspended like in NJ; daily cases continue to accelerate out of control; pleas from family members to cancel become too much to bear. This last point is important - if my wife and mother are really freaking out about me going, it would be hard to have much fun on the ground.

I am at about 80% certainty that I will be going in 3 weeks. This changes every hour. I have been watching Nevada and their numbers like a hawk, plus watching how they have been enforcing rules like masks. Very proud of their Governor for being willing to shut places down if they are not in compliance. All of these things make me feel better, but overall, the positivity rates and number of cases need to go down within 2 weeks time for me to decide. I am in the same boat as you.

This is the point. I cancelled several trips this year for exactly that reason: Everything can be fine with me, but the circumstances can get worse: Stuck in quarantine, cancelled flights - who knows what else ... One day before the flight, I cancelled a trip to spain in march this year. That was a wise decision. Because in the evening of the next day the lockdown and total curfew started in spain. And not only my returning flight was cancelled, nearly every flight was cancelled from this date on. That would have been a nice vacation: Sitting in the apartment the whole day, without knowing how to come back, if getting back, maybe 14 days somewhere in quarantine ...

Sometimes it is not health that causes stress.

But what will be, if you get symptoms of covid19 in Vegas? Are they forcing you to leave the hotel? Is it allowed to get on a plane for a flight home?

One more person in the same boat here...watching stats like crazy (and thanks, Sonya, for the thread you provide daily!). Supposed to arrive the 20th. We shall see....might just be playing a couple days in Council Bluffs instead.
