I am going to be staying solo at the Flamingo from July 22-27 and then Plaza from July 27-30. I am planning on staying on strip area while at Flamingo and then walking around Downtown area while at Plaza to do coupons. Do I need a rental car or is this a waste? If no rental, suggestions for getting to Flamingo and then to Downtown? Bus/taxi/rideshare? Have never used Uber/Lyft.
    Thank you!

If The Deuce is running you van use that. It stops at every strip casino and drops off at the FSE.

I see no reason for a rental at all. Taxi/Uber will take care of things just fine.

If you want to drive around to different places (South Point, Sunset Station, etc.), definitely a car.

But if you’re just looking to get to/from Strip/Downtown, take Uber/Lyft/bus.

    Above all, have fun!

You can bus it all around or use a car service - uber/lyft. Car for sure is not necessary.

You might want to read trip reports, I read that trying to get an uber several people have waited for 3 hours and no uber showed up. Just an FYI

I have been to Vegas 2 of the past 3 weekends and Uber and Lyft are a problem. You need to be prepared for long waits and will probably have to upgrade to premium cars in order to get one. I have been told by several drivers than fewer than 25% of the drivers are willing to work -- and that figure seems generous to me. The ride from the airport to the hotel will be easier than from the hotel to the airport, though a wait will still be required. Taxis are the more easily available option for airport transfers. The Deuce or SDX bus are options to get between the strip and downtown.

The post above is right on. Flew in (home) on Friday and had two trip requests cancel so I took a cab (around 4pm). Lots of people waiting. If you do get a car, Check in at the Flamingo and either a) they used to have a car rental stand in the lobby, but I can't recall the brand or b) book an Enterprise car for the next day...you save at least one day and you avoid airport fees. There is a Enterprise location on Flamingo just a bit west of the Palms (too far to walk in the summer). You can wait until the day you need a car to get it and when you drop off, I believe, they will give you a ride to the airport, but you'd better check on that as I don't know what changes may have been made.

I will echo those who say renting a car is not necessary. In fact, I have been coming to Vegas for over 30 years and I have never rented a car. In fact, if you plan on doing any drinking, please do NOT rent a car.

Rental car is sometimes cheaper than paying Uber/Lyft especially for a $20+ one way to get to downtown.

I paid $27 + tip for the most expensive premium Uber from Flamingo to the airport on a Sunday morning -- and had to wait 30+ minutes for the driver to arrive. A cab might have been cheaper and definitely would have been a shorter wait. There were people who had been trying for 2 hours to get the cheaper uber, to no avail. The week before I tried for 30 minutes to get ANY Uber at ANY price range on a Sunday morning from Caesars to the airport and no cars were available, had to get a cab.

If you just want to go from airport to strip to downtown to airport, I would use Uber/Lyft. I just got home from Vegas yesterday and the Uber/Lyft thing is bad. But, for your situation, I would schedule the ride from strip to downtown and downtown to airport the night before. That's what I did for my ride to the airport and it worked beautifully. I picked a 15 minute window and my car arrived right in the middle of that timeframe. In contrast, looking at the apps while I was waiting for my driver to show up - there were no ubers available and Lyft was a 30 minute wait. I wouldn't rely on uber/lyft for spontaneous trips around, but if you know you are going to want a car from the strip to downtown at noon tomorrow - schedule the trip in advance and you should be fine.

I rented a compact class from Budget for $50 total. They gave me a Nissan Kicks which is the size of a Kia Soul.

Given the circumstances, especially with free parking downtown, I would just rent one, nothing worse than being on edge about missing your flight waiting on an Uber.
