I purchased 2 masks on Etsy. They were complete garbage, which surprised me because the reviews were good. Open seam unraveling, one ear loop about and inch bigger than the other, smaller than a normal surgical mask...I think they were into saving material. I am not a seamstress, but can do a much better job.

I've made 2 kinds, both using surgical mask as a base. First kind, sew a cover directly to the surgical mask. Second kind, make a sleeve with material that the surgical mask slides inside. These both look better, but my preference would be a plain surgical mask for comfort.

image.jpg I wear a mask for work 45 hours a week, tried using cloth masks and they were a pain on the ears, not very breathable and fogs up when wearing glasses. Then I found these at neighborhood Asian market, as you can see the features on the label, threw away all my cloth masks!

The mask extender option is intriguing as I have the ear pain as well with the traditional masks. I wonder though, when sliding the mask up and down when drinking, would the extender stay in place? or would that thing be flopping all around?

I find any of the commercially made cloth masks to be plenty comfortable, I’m partial to the ones we have from Nordstrom since they’re a little larger than some of the others we’ve bought. I haven’t needed to wear one long enough to have the ear loops bother me, but I bought the ear savers for my more sensitive wife and she said they work well.

Fogging of my glasses has been a problem and that's just when wearing them for a short period. 8 - 10 hours of video poker may be challenging. We will see(hopefully).

They sell anti-fogging products to keep your glasses from fogging up. You just sprays some on your lenses and wipe it off. There are a number of different brands on the market, but I've been using this one which has been working pretty good. I also use it on my camera lens to prevent them from fogging up too.

If you want a cheap do-it-yourself antifog option, get some bar soap and rub a small streak across both sides of your lenses and gently wipe them with a clean/dry cloth. The thin film of soap will help prevent fogging.

In regards to comfortable face masks, I like the regular surgical masks with the ear loops. At least for me, the elastic ear loops haven't been irritate my ears when wearing them for hours. They also seem to be cooler, then the cloth masks which tend to trap more heat. I've also been making my own cloth masks, so I can custom design them to fit my face better and I made a few with adjustable elastic bands which slips over my head instead of those ear loops.

I thought about buying one of those neck gaiters that @ken2v mentioned, but I have a feeling that it may not stay in place and would keep slipping down, so I'd be touching my face too often readjusting the thing. LOL

    Looks like these:

Amazon as some that are similiar

As for the topic, my work provided us with masks to wear. They are made out of a stretchy cloth material and basically have 2 slits on either side to loop around your ears so they can fit better for a variety of folks. They are hard to work for multiple hours in and we have to wash them every night, but they do the job they are provided for. Work also sent me a gaiter, but it's way to damn hot to wear that thing.

I'm keeping an eye on this thread to get ideas for something different to wear around work.

Oh my gosh @SMG I could six-foot-distancing hug you! I wear glasses, and the fogging is what has been so hard. I'm going to look for the stuff you put on glasses.

On masks, Ive tried a few fancier cloth ones, but like the scrubs version paper ones. I'd bring both options to Vegas, so you have choices.

Much easier to breath than masks, and probably a bit better, too.

Mission makes a cooling gaiter. I bought one and have not tried the cooling feature outside. I tried it in my apartment and it was so cold I had to take it off. BUT of course, it means nothing if I say it worked inside an air conditioned apartment.

You are supposed to wet it, wring it out and then snap it for the cooling thing to kick in.

I would check with the casinos first as they might require more than a face shield and also have you wear a face mask

    I figured this out.

    Start with a cheapo bandana.

    Cut a rectangle 9 x 7 or so.

The 7" will be the sides. Bunch up the fabric on the 7" sided so its sort of pleated in the center along the edge. Should fold down to about 1". Now sew that in place.

Do the same on the other 7" side.

So it will be sort of like a taco. I sewed edge tape around the entire rim so it doesnt unravel.

Now sew an 8" piece of elastic from bunch up side to bunched up side.

Put it on and the cord will go around your neck, not your ears. The fabric is very breathable. Hardly even know its there.

Glad I read this post because you gave me a great idea. I fly these little racing drones that you build yourself, and the battery straps for them are adjustable hook and loop fasteners to adjust to different battery and frame sizes, plus the good ones are rubberized on one side to help increase friction on the batteries. Best of all, I have a stack of them. Definitely throwing a few of these in my suitcase as they will probably make excellent ear sabers! (They cost about a dollar each but all the dealers in these niche parts usually throw branded ones in free with every order)

I wouldn’t wear an N95 or SN95, or any mask like those if you plan on going to Vegas over the summer. It gets hot as is, but when you’re playing Buffalo, or any aristocrat machine where it goes floor to ceiling, you can feel the heat coming off the machine, coupled with your hot exhales.
