    My Trip Report

WARNING, THIS REPORT IS VERY LONG 7 PAGES IN WORD.....

    May 3rd-6th, 2007

    The birthday/anniversary trip report.

We made the decision months ago that we would go out the 3rd-6th so that we could go for both hubby’s birthday and our one year anniversary. We got married in Vegas last year and it’s the only place I think that we could vacation together, since we both have very different versions of what a vacation should be. A few months ago I took a bump on a flight for work and pocketed the credit, which was about $330 and we had gotten two Southwest gift cards for Christmas to pay for the rest. When we were researching flights, we had two options, leave in the morning on the 6th, or for $300 cheaper, leave later and get into Columbus at 12:55 am. Duh, save one of the gift cards and fly cheap we said! We’re still young enough to bounce back from that kind of late night traveling. I’ll tell you how that bit us in the ass at the end….. Anyways, onto the report.

    DAY 1

I sweated out 8 hours of work on Thursday and left at 4pm. Husband was already home and mostly packed by the time I got home at 4:15. It's his birthday, but he hates celebrating, whatever..... We immediately leave to get to the airport, which is normally a 20 minute drive. The drive started out ok, but once we reached downtown Columbus, it totally stopped. My parents were just getting back from Vegas and I told my mom I’d meet her at the baggage claim to get my POV book back and now there was no way that I was going to make it. We sat……. Finally traffic started to break out a little bit before the exit to the airport. Mom was willing to wait a few extra minutes so I had hubby drop me off at the baggage claim. The time was now 5:25 and our flight was supposed to leave at 5:55. He went to park the car and I got my book and headed up to the gate. Security was no problem, got to the gate just as they start boarding my A group. I kept calling hubby to see where he was and he wouldn’t answer his phone, so I was starting to get really nervous as I’m trying to save him a seat. He finally gets on the plane with the C group and we’re off. At this point, I’m a little cranky with the situation and decide a nap would be a good idea since we’re now stuck on a plane for 4 hours and 30 minutes. We take off and everything is fine, except for the fact that there is a very drunk woman spilling her guts about leaving her husband to the young couple who unfortunately got stuck sitting with her. My husband is laughing and poking me saying “Did you hear that?†every five minutes so I’m getting even more agitated. Finally this woman stops talking cause the couple starts to watch a movie and ignore her, so I can go to sleep. I finally get my nap.

But not without a rude awakening. Seems the crazy drunk behind me felt the need to touch me. I was sleeping away and all the sudden someone is touching my face. Let me stop for a minute….. I ABSOLUTELY CAN’T STAND strangers touching me, even if it is an innocent bump. I know, Vegas is not the place to be if you’re weird about this sort of thing. I rely on sedatives or mass alcohol to cope with this. As soon as I figure out what the hell is going on, I grab her arm and yank it so hard, her face hits the tray table on the back of my seat. I let it go and try to go back to sleep, she does it again. This time I get out of my seat and give her a “WHAT THE F***K ARE YOU DOING? Keep your drunk ass hands in your own seat and don’t f***ing touch me!!†She’s looking at me like she’s about to get her ass kicked and everyone else is looking at me like “Please do it!†I turn back around and read my book because now I’m far too pissed to go back to sleep. Drunk girl starts coughing and making gagging noises in her seat. I think great, I made her look like an ass so now she’s going to puke on me. The flight attendant brings her a drink that she doesn’t even remember ordering and the young couple convinces her that maybe she should go to the restroom and not drink the cocktail. At this point we get the call from the captain that we are getting ready to start our descent into Vegas. Drunk girl is in the restroom for a long time. In this time, I get congrats all around because it seems as drunk girl has been touching quite a few people. One of them was this big huge guy, that when I got on the plane I thought, man this guy’s gotta be a football player. Turns out he was, didn’t catch a name, but he said he’s number 78 on the Raiders. About 15 minutes later drunk girl comes back to her seat and passes out. We land and everything is ok until I realize drunk girl is following me. Yeah, I know everyone is going to the baggage claim together, but she doesn’t have any bags. Damn it, I just want to smoke a cigarette! We go out the first door to smoke and she sits down on against the building and is literally in a drunken stupor. I resist all urges to flick my burning cigarette at her and walk back in so that we can get to the right exit for the taxi line.

We catch a cab to NYNY and get long hauled. Not a big deal cause we’re in Vegas earlier in the day than we’ve ever been (we usually take the flight through Nashville that gets us in around 11:00, this was direct) and I don’t care. Check in was a breeze. I considered the $20 trick and then when I saw our clerk I put it away. I had originally had us booked Thursday night at Harrah’s because it was free and then booked Friday and Saturday night at NYNY for $350 a night. When I called casino marketing about the outrageous prices for Friday and Saturday night originally they said there was nothing that they could do. I mentioned that we were staying elsewhere on Thursday night and what do you know, a week later, I get an offer in the mail for free Thursday night at NYNY and $75 in free play. I hate changing rooms, so I cancelled Harrah’s and booked the NYNY offer. At check in, I was told that I would have a Park Avenue room Thursday night and a Skyline for Friday and Saturday. I politely asked if we could just have one or the other for the entire weekend so we wouldn’t have to change rooms. A couple of minutes later, we had the Park Avenue room for the entire weekend. It was supposed to be an upgrade from the Skyline room, but it was the exact same room, only with marble in the bathroom, big deal…. Anyways, we go up the New Yorker tower to the 17th floor and walk for what seemed like forever until we reached 1780. The room is small, but ok for our needs. It faced the strip so we could see MGM and all that stuff. Showered to get the airplane scum off me and went downstairs. We were starving, so we got something to eat at Gonzalez y Gonzalez. Food was ok, standard Mexican, nothing to write home about, no idea of the cost, as we charged it to our room without looking at the bill.

Set off for some gambling after dinner. I went to the player’s club desk to redeem my $75 free play and promptly stuck it in a dollar machine. When it registered the free play, it said $100. Who am I to complain about free money? I got about two spins into the $100 and hit for $200. Played the rest of the free play out on that machine and took my $200 in winnings. I looked and looked for my favorite machine, Jackpot Stampede, which is no longer around, and ended up at Family Feud. It was entertaining and I only lost about $50.

Before I left for Vegas, I collected $5 per number from people at work and friends wanting to place a roulette bet. I work for a company where we are always gambling on something, whether it bee football or who’s going to get fired next…. I had every number filled and went to the roulette table to place my bets for everyone. The dealer looked at me like I was smoking crack when I told him what I wanted to do, but let me do it anyways. Lucky number 7 hit and one of my co-workers and my brother in law are both $175 richer.

From here, I moved to a $15 blackjack table. At this point, I had no idea where hubby went, but we spend most of our gaming time apart. I sat down at this table around 10:00pm. There were two young couples at the table and we had a really good time. Funny thing about NYNY now is that in the past, I’ve always been able to take a card face down if I’m doubling down. I don’t know, it makes it easier on me if I don’t have to look at the card, just in case the dealer doesn’t bust. We were allowed to do this all night Friday, the people at the table were doing it before I got there and it was fun, but later in the weekend, it was explained to me that it is against company policy and that some pit bosses just don’t care. Whatever, like it changes anything if the card is face down…… Anyways, at some point hubby texts me that he’s out of money for the evening. He comes over to where I am and watches for a little bit. It’s now 4:00 am and we’ve been up for over 24 hours. I was up about $300 for the day. Time to catch some shut eye.

    DAY 2

Up bright and early at 8:30 with only 4 ½ hours of sleep. Even with the curtains closed, the room was bright. Got up and showered and watched the news for a few. Saw that Chris Cornell was going to be at the Hard Rock (that’s a lie) that night and mentally noted to ask hubby if he wanted to go later. Then we’re off to the Paris buffet for breakfast. I had my POV $10 off coupon, so I think it was around $20 for both of us. I was a little bummed, they used to include Platinum members in the line pass group, now it’s only diamond and 7 stars. Oh well, we only waited in like for about 15 minutes. Breakfast was good as usual, but it was really crowded in line for food. Half my stuff was cold by the time I found the table. It also kinda sucked that we couldn’t smoke in the restaurants, since I like to enjoy a cigarette after a couple of plates of buffet food, but whatever you can’t smoke in restaurants here in Columbus either, so no big deal.

After we ate, we rolled ourselves over to Bally’s to see what tickets were still available for The Price is Right Live. I want to say it was around $75 for both of us to go (hubby paid and I was looking at the Jubilee girls posing with all the tourists, it was amusing), with our Total Rewards card presented. Took our tickets and I played my Cash King or King Cash (whichever it is) machine for a little while. Walked back down to the hotel and hubby decides since his belly is full and he only had a little sleep that he would take a nap even though he’s only been up for about 3 hours. I on the other hand wasn’t tired and bellied up to a $15 blackjack table and spent the afternoon there. What a fun table. It was nicknamed by those there the girl table, because for some reason no men would sit down with us. I don’t blame them, we were a little obnoxious. It was about 4:00 pm when I text hubby to see where the heck he was. Apparently I had woken him from his nap and he was wondering why I hadn’t come up for a nap. Since the table was breaking up cause people had plans for the late afternoon, I took my cash and ran. 4 ½ hours later on a $100 buy in I walked with about $400. I did get a great piece of advice at the table. Mandalay Bay has my Jackpot Stampede machines…..

Got back to the room and decided to cab it to the Hard Rock to see if there were tickets available for Chris Cornell. Got to the Hard Rock and saw that the concert wasn’t there. The news was wrong, because LL Cool J was at the Hard Rock tonight. Personally I would have rather gone to LL, but that wasn’t my call. We turned around and got the hell out of there, feeling rather old (at 28). Cabbed it over to Mandalay Bay because I think to myself, that’s gotta be where the concert is. It is, and we buy standing room only tickets for $45 each and set off to find the Jackpot Stampede machines. I finally find them and woo hoo check it out, it’s a new version of them. The old ones at NYNY were a quarter fed machine (which is probably why they got rid of them), but this one was sweet. There were changes to the way things were paid, but all I care about is getting a stampede. I need a bonus round in slots, otherwise it’s just not fun! I put a hundred in the machine to kill some time, hubby goes to walk around for a few. I notice that there is not a cocktail waitress in this joint. The machine next to me is another one of the same and there is this little Asian woman sitting there steadily pumping $20’s into it and giving me the evil eye every time I get a stampede. Hubby comes back to see what I’m doing and tells me he’s going to get in like for the concert. I tell him to go get me a drink first and we proceed to pay $22 for some red bull and vodka. Ok, whatever. He texts me about 20 minutes later to tell me that he’s going in. Uh hello, he has my ticket! He comes back out and I get to skip the big line for alcohol bracelets and go right to the front. Another 20 minutes later, they let us in. This is a great venue for small concerts!! Very intimate setting with standing room by the stage and seats up above. A hooker up top was giving all the guys a little show in her short skirt…… Pay some outrageous prices for more drinks and firmly plant ourselves about 5 feet from the stage. Talk to some great people from all over the place around us waiting for the show to start and everyone gets really impatient. We wait for almost an hour and a half for the show to begin. This isn’t my ideal place to be with so many people around me, but luckily there is a pregnant woman right behind me and people were giving her lots of room. The concert finally starts and it’s great! Chris has an amazing voice and sounds exactly like CD quality. There were some drunken retards trying to get closer to the stage, but none of the guys around us were letting them through. It was pretty funny to watch. The concert lasted 2 ½ hours and had two encores. Unfortunately, I had some major surgery at the end of last year on my ankle (call me Grace, I slipped and fell off the deck at my mom’s house and no I wasn’t drunk) and my feet were killing me, so that put a damper on me toward the end of the show. When it was over, we walked indoors through Luxor and Excalibur to NYNY. I couldn’t find the monorail that goes between them (turns out it’s right by HOB). It was early, but I was seriously hurting, so we went to bed around 11:30 (yeah, we’re losers….).

    DAY 3

I have no clue what the hell happened this morning. I heard hubby’s cell ring at 7:00 and the next thing I know it’s 8:30 and he’s nowhere to be found. Oh well… I call home to check on the kids and hear what’s going on there, shower and then hubby comes back. It seems he didn’t need more sleep and went to get a Mt. Dew and got distracted by blackjack. He’s hungry now, since we didn’t have dinner last night so we head off to Planet Hollywood for the buffet. I like the new look of the place, but honestly, I’m hard pressed to play somewhere that I’m not getting points and with them not having a ton of choices like MGM and Harrah’s, I probably won’t give them much of my money. Buffet was good, I think it was around $30 for the both of us. Again, I was people watching while the husband paid. He was in charge of food for the weekend since I had paid the deposit on the hotel room. Breakfast was good, got to see a old lady in a scooter run into a table and the guy that was sitting there had his OJ spilled all over him. That was kinda funny…. Ate our food and left back to the hotel. Belly up to a $15 blackjack table around 10:30 and damn it was choppy. I’d win like 6 hands in a row, then lose like 10 hands. I ended up walking away from the table with $300. Left the table around 1:45, as we had to get down to Bally’s for the Price is Right. Got there and were seated. This was really fun, they show all kinds of old clips from the show and you play along. I won 1000 Total Rewards credits. It was something fun to take up the afternoon. We left Bally’s to get back to our hotel and have nothing to do with the madness that could ensue with the big fight being only a few hours away. We had been warned by more than a few people to stay away from MGM Saturday night. No problem……

Got back to the hotel a little while later. We stopped at CVS on the way to get some sugar free Red Bull so that I didn’t have to drink that Sobee crap that NYNY has. Kinda funny that I can buy a Red Bull at the pizza place in NYNY, but can’t get one at the table. Oh well. Stopped up at the room to grab some money and then back downstairs. At this point, we figured that we should eat before we sit down at a table, so we go to Gonzalez y Gonzalez again. We just shared appetizers of nachos and quesadillas. The nachos had absolutely no taste to them whatsoever. Gross, the quesadillas weren’t as good as Thursday night either. Charged the bill to the room and we were off to play.

Sat down at a $15 table next to the one we were at earlier and proceeded to play choppy all night. I had my $300 in chips from earlier that I was playing with and at one point traded them in for a purple ($500) chip, but then proceeded to lose it all slowly and painfully. Every time I’d have a 20, the dealer would get 21. Hubby and I were trading money when one person’s stack got low and he ended up doing ok, but not so much on my part. Oh well, it wasn’t my money anyways… An interesting note, I took my Red Bull down to the table with me so that I could get some Absolut on the rocks and add some and the cocktail waitress says we have Red Bull now. I said “As of when? I’ve been here all weekend and haven’t been able to get it.†She told me that they got it late on Friday night. Sweet…. While losing all my money I got absolutely sloshed then went back up to the room and crashed around midnight. Hubby may have stayed up later, but I was too drunk to remember.

    DAY 4

Our last day. Damn the last day always bums me out. Luckily, our flight didn’t leave until 6:05 (or so it was supposed to….). I went down to the player’s club around 10:00 to see what they wanted me to do since we still wanted to play, but we wanted it to be counted towards any comps for the trip. The girl at the desk said no problem and gave us a 4:00 check out time and told me to come back to the desk when we were ready to check out. I called hubby down and we decided we didn’t want to walk anywhere for breakfast, so we went to Chin Chin. I guess it’s a Chinese restaurant normally, but since NYNY doesn’t have a buffet, they do one in there in the mornings. It was ok and filled the need for food. I think the total for both of us was around $25, which we charged to the room.

After that, hubby went to blackjack and I went to Mandalay Bay with all intentions of cashing out a ticket I had from Friday night. I got over there, and wouldn’t ya know, the jackpot stampede was calling my name and that little Asian lady from the other night is still sitting at “her†machine. Her husband had just gotten up from “my†machine. So I sit down, what the hell, I don’t care if I go home with any money left, it was budgeted to spend, so damn it, I’m going to spend it! I fed it $100 and wasn’t getting anything. I fed it the $45 ticket I had gotten Friday night and it started to come back up, so I started slowly feeding it $20’s. After about $180 in, it really started to pick up and I was hitting stampedes left and right. The Asian lady next to me was getting mad because she was still steadily pumping $20’s into her machine with nothing happening. All of the sudden I get 4 wilds, not on the payline (that’s a 4000 credit win) for a hit of 1200 coins, or $300. The lady beside me is now absolutely fuming and her husband is joining her and it really sounded like she was letting him have it for getting up from the machine. Another lady walks up and told me that she was playing the machine I was on Saturday night and it was good to her and that she didn’t think the Asian lady had moved since Thursday when she got there. Funny stuff. People just get hooked on one machine and play it all weekend. I know I’m guilty of it. Anyways, at that point I had about 1400 credits in the machine, so I decide I’m going to play it down to the 1200 and call it a day. This machine won’t quit though. I was hitting 120, 300 and all sorts of stampedes. At one point I was up around 1800 credits and said what the hell, I’m racking up some major points. For awhile I pay no attention to the fact that I told hubby I’d be right back and it is our anniversary and maybe we should be spending some time together. Whatever, he obviously isn’t looking for me, so no big deal. I keep playing and getting phone calls from assorted people telling me happy anniversary and checking to see how the vacation was going. Finally hubby texts me to tell me that he mistakenly left a $100 chip on his betting spot cause he wasn’t paying attention and hit a blackjack on it. Good for him. We keep separate bankrolls, so I can’t for sure say how he was doing for the weekend, but he did make several trips to the atm, so I’m assuming he wasn’t doing all that well. He texted me at 3:00 to tell me that he was heading up to the room to pack so I cashed out with my 1200 credits and headed back to NYNY. Thanks a bunch Mandalay Bay, I was able to put another 1300 points on my player’s club card sitting there for 4 hours.

Back at the room I learned that hubby had made enough today at blackjack to cover all of his losing for the weekend and I was going home with the $300 that I won at the Stampede. We gathered up all of our stuff and headed down to the player’s club to see what we could get knocked off of our bill. There were some issues with hubby’s card since he wasn’t on the folio for the room even though our accounts are linked with MGM, but whatever. The clerk said she had to call a casino host and went away for a couple of minutes. She came back and gave me the casino host’s card and told me to give her a call before we come out next time and that everything on our bill was taken care of, with the exception of the tips for the restaurants…. WHAT???? Holy crap what a huge score!! Our bill for two nights (the first night was free to begin with) and 3 meals was over $800 and they wiped it all clean based on our play, which I really didn’t think was all that much!! What an excellent trip! This may make it possible for us to return later in the year!

We get to the airport via a very entertaining cabbie and get through security and all that. After about 20 minutes of sitting there, our flight is delayed 30 minutes. Ok, no big deal, we were scheduled to get in at 12:55 am which is late, but now it’s going to be almost 1:30 am. Good thing I took half a day off of work on Monday to recuperate! About 20 minutes later somebody looks up at the board and exclaims “WTF 8:45 now???†This about caused a riot at the gate. Seems air traffic control was a little (yeah right) backed up and our plane was just leaving Nashville. About an hour later, they announced a gate change and people were running for the other gate. We lost our spot at the front of the A line. Oh well. I just wanted to get on the damn plane and go to sleep. It had been a long day! We finally get boarded and leave Las Vegas around 9:00 local time. Of course I had drunken idiots behind me again and they stole my pillow when I wasn’t paying attention, but luckily everyone was tired and went to sleep fairly quickly. The pilot came to the front of the plane before we left to apologize for being late and announce that he wouldn’t come over the speaker at all on the way home so we could all sleep but it was going to be a bumpy ride. Whatever, I slept the entire time…. We get into Columbus around 4:30 am local time because apparently we had to fly around Kansas and their storms. Got into the house and crashed. Woke up just in time to shower and go to work.

Overall, what a great trip! Who would have imagined a fully comped stay?? Good stuff. Thanks to everyone who posts to this board, you’ve all got some great input on so many different aspects of Vegas! I hope this got you through your work day without putting you to sleep!!

Drunk people can grope me anytime. Adds to the entertainment value. Of course, if thats one of your dislikes, I totally understand. It would be like someone grabbing/rubbing/touching my bare feet. Can't STAND it.

Great report! Shows the that gambling where you stay and players cards CAN make a difference!

    Great TR!
Very nice that everything was comped AND you won money. It doesn't get much better than that.

    Nice TR.

Only a woman can board a plane to Vegas and hopes her husband makes it before they close the doors.

Nice TR and great score on getting your stay comped. I can't help but wonder what happend to the gropping drunk woman. But with all the points you accumulated you should have your next stay at NYNY comped before you even start gambling.

    Ha ha funny responses!

Jer - I wouldn't have even admitted I played football if it meant I had to specify I played for the Raiders. My stepdad is a firm believer that they'll get back on their feet one of these years though... Whatever. Go Steelers.

Mikey - I think by now with all of your writings, we all know you like to be groped... :)

Wanger1969 - I totally hear what you're saying about the feet thing... Ewww!

Abner2xday - The hubby making it onto the plane was more punishment for him than me, he's been working like 65 hours a week for the last month and didn't want to go at all.

Everyone else - thanks for the kind words!

The fact that you got more then you expected from MGM is mind blowing. I have received less and less from the Mirage since those pricks bought them out. Good for you.

That was a fun read and sounds like you two had a good time. Good to hear you gave that touchy-feely drunkard a firm smackdown. And I love the bit about the lady who has been planted at one slot machine for several days. People are strange!

Great report! Thanks for taking the time to write it up!

UHHHH...if the hubby didn't want to go why didn't he just give you a solo trip and celebrate the anniversary upon your return???? Well, that's what I'd have asked for anyway:thumbsup:

Believe me Sin, he wanted to go, he just found it incredibly hard to pry himself away from work. He's strange like that. I did Vegas solo for a couple of days in December and it just wasn't the same. I've tried to bribe friends with airfare/hotel, etc, but I guess they're too scared to fly or something. I need better friends!! :)

Really? I LOVE solo trips. My friends won't come along with me either. They don't understand my obsession with Vegas & gambling and of course the around the clock drinking that comes with the territory. Maybe they know me too well & fear embarrassment? At least one friend has offered bail money if necessary...*LOL*

Nice Report. #78 on the Raiders is Chad Slaughter. A big man indeed. One would have to be quite drunk indeed to start pawing at him.
