As someone who generally budgets like $125-$150 for gambling for an entire three-day trip (and 90% of that will go towards betting sports), oh boy...you would hate me ;)

I’m a High Roller with food and beverage, but gambling on anything other than sports has never appealed to me.

All joking aside, I always take a picture of the room number with my phone and/or text it to myself. I never carry the keys with me in the little packet they come in w/ room number on it. That way if the key gets stolen (unlikely) or lost (more likely) whoever ends up with it won't know which room it opens.

And this! Never had a problem in Vegas, but learned this one the hard way in Chicago when someone managed to unzip my purse and steal my wallet while it was hanging on the back of the chair I was sitting in. Ugh!

Vegas has got to be the best place in the world to do a solo trip. And easiest.
I have been to Vegas approximately 80 time and I would say 90% of those trips were solo.
I can't think of too many other places that I would want to do a solo trip.

My best advice for solo Vegas trip: Don't.
Well, we understand sometimes that's not an option.
So my second best advice is: Don't tell anyone.

Usually do a few $10-$20 parlays each day. Any wins are re-invested in to more parlays. Even then, gambling is a very small part of any Vegas trip for me.

True. My solution for a jacket, is to wrap one of the arms either under one leg, or over it and tuck it under. Makes it impossible to forget it, as you feel it pull when you get up from the seat.

Probably 3/4 of my trips are solo. usually for golf events or boxing / MMA events that my wife doesn't care for. I'll get very little sleep on a solo trip, maybe 3 hours a night if I'm lucky. Most nights might be 1.5 hours. I'll golf all day, steam shower / change for the evening, eat dinner at the bar of one of the steakhouses and chat up the bartender. I really enjoy chatting with new people or old friends on solo trips as it helps alleviate the awkwardness of eating solo. Go gamble most of the night. Rinse and repeat. I don't do clubs or nightlife on solo trips as I am not trying to meet anybody at those places. It will take me a week to recover from the lack of sleep / excess drinking of a 3 day trip.

Been going more solo since I've been able to take advantage of mid-week offers, maybe 50/50 solo v family. I usually stay a couple days downtown, a couple days on the Strip. I'll play a lot more poker since it's harder with family around but also a good way to socialize and meet folks. Also tend to eat at odd hours, maybe 11am late breakfast, 4pm lunch, late dinner/snack to avoid the crowds. And since I have a car, I have my favorite off strip hangouts - sports memorabilia shop, outlet / thrift stores, spa, ramen shop, etc... Second the idea of using your phone camera to remember room number and especially parking level !

I'll echo what others have stated about eating at the bar. It's usually "open" seating, so if the bar isn't full (or whatever the current equivalent is considering circumstances) there's usually little to no wait. I've also noticed that the service is better. Might not be the same for everywhere, but the difference was enough for me to switch to eating at the bar whenever possible. Finally, if you get a good bartender, you may have someone with whom you can have a conversation. For me, that just adds a lot to the whole experience. Plus. I like to talk.

I've only done Vegas once solo, the tail-end 36hrs of a trip after my group went back home, but I have traveled throughout Asia and Europe entirely alone (and loved it). Those 36hrs in Vegas was pretty good; as others have said, I did whatever I wanted, on my schedule. I hit the pool for a few hours, walked a lot to do some sightseeing and went to an attaction I had never done in my previous trips (Mandalay Bay Aquarium). My typical day is pool party with friends and club at night, so this was definitely different but also fun. I did take it pretty easy on the alcohol tho, just to be safe.

Solo female here. My trips tend to be a combination of solo and meeting up with friends, but always a few full solo days. Lots of great tips in here for sure. Here are some of my main ones.

Small cross body purse. I will never understand women with ginormous designer bags that don't even close completely. It's both an invitation to steal and in these days, a great place for nasty germs to roost.

Choose a home base that you will really enjoy. It sucks to be in a hotel/casino that doesn't give you that happy feeling. If you can, pick a hotel that has some security by the elevators. I know it isn't a guarantee, but it makes me feel safer. I always end my day playing at my home property for safety reasons and to make sure if I drink, I am close to home.

Do not forget to eat! I sometimes end up with brutal headaches, and it isn't from the drinking but from realizing it is after 6pm and I haven't eaten a thing.

Drink lots and lots of water. It helps with both the dryness out there and the alcohol.

I always bring my Kindle to Vegas with a new raunchy murder mystery on it. I can read it on the plane, by the pool, in my room or pull it out in a restaurant if I am bored or uncomfortable. It's a little security blanket for me.

I avoid buffets solo because I don't ever, ever leave a drink unattended even in an environment like that. The Wynn Buffet in it's current configuration would avoid that issue.

Go and have a blast! It really is nice not to have to answer to anyone at all for a few days!
