    My Trip Report

Well, well, well. It would appear by the little Countdown Timer box that someone is about to go to Vegas. Would anyone like to hazard a guess as to who that might be?

    If you guessed:

    (a) Macker or Big Sack….stay on the I-15 and continue proceeding to Utah for a non caffeinated beverage at the nearest White Castle.

    (b) If you guessed MB and Gaggles, take the off ramp to Caesars Palace on Thursday along with an abundance of milk thistle because it is going to be on and….

Welcome to another grand Gaggles adventure!

You should all be forewarned, I have been dutifully behaving and sober since my honeymoon. As some of you may recall from my last TR, JR and I just made the cut where cruise lines are concerned in March and managed to depart from Puerto Rico for a fabulous honeymoon before our ship was re-routed to Port Canaveral and the travel habits of the world changed overnight. Since that time, I have not gambled a nickel nor drank more than a dime’s worth of booze. A dime being less than 10 drinks in any one sitting. So we are pent up and more ready to go than the first time Macker realized back in his College days that they would pay for sperm donations.

As if punishing us for managing to get a cruise in just under the wire in early March, many things that could seemingly break or expire did. For instance, on Sunday I found a loaf of bread while cleaning out the fridge that was dated April 15. Because I wanted toast I decided to give it a try. I rolled the dice and am happy to report no ill side effects. Winning already! In the category of other things going sideways, I replaced a stove, two worn couches, my ice machine stopped working, and my sump pump backed up and flooded my basement just before my birthday in late May. I finally got the floors repaired this week and just waiting for base board replacement. Note to all…CHECK YOUR SUMP PUMPS! They break! Luckily for me I had extended flood coverage so I am only out the deductible. So while they are replacing the basement floors we are doing the upstairs floors as well. The house has been utter chaos. I am also working at home like so many others which I know, is lucky lucky compared to many who have lost employment.

Now to our main topic at hand. Vegas. A weakness in the system was discovered a few weeks ago where the border is concerned. Having discovered this, MB and Gaggles jumped at the chance to rebook Vegas after our June 19-23 trip was cancelled. Apparently you can fly out of Canada but not drive out of Canada to the US. It’s just that very few carriers are offering flights. Well, we found one. And if all goes to plan, we will be arriving in Vegas Thursday afternoon.

MB and I are using our Diamond Flight vouchers as flights were ridiculous. We also have a nice little bit of free play each and rooms at Caesars. Free rooms. Free flights. Free play. Free food. Free booze. How are they keeping the lights on in these casinos right????

No trip would be complete without a little JR. I am sorry to report that JR shall not be joining us in Vegas. But she will be joining this TR next week when I pick her up in Oakland for the third leg of our journey to Tahoe and Reno. We are three nights Harrah’s in Tahoe and one day at Silver Legacy in Reno. I would like to thank my pretty darn cool wife for giving me a green light for a boys trip this weekend and also being cool with me chilling in California (or possibly Nevada depending on how things go) for an additional three days after.

Between Vegas and Tahoe/Reno, Gaggles has free time. At this point I have no plans and no reservations anywhere. I do have a care rental to pick up on Sunday in Vegas. It is a one way rental to Reno before we fly home. The smart money is a drive up the PCH at some point. It truly is a wild card from Sunday-Wednesday afternoon. I would have gone to Yosemite but we have some restrictions around park passes etc. Bummer. It looks pretty cool there.

So we are looking at Vegas-???-Tahoe-Reno and then home for a 14 day quarantine. This originally was only going to be a weekend in Tahoe but events turned it into the trip we have before us. If I am gonna quarantine, I will make this thing worthwhile. Anyone have any suggestions for me on my solo days? It can be like a Choose Your Own Adventure Novel.

MB and I currently have not a single plan on our schedule other than drinking and gambling.

I do have one question. Can anyone comment on the current LA traffic leaving Vegas later in the afternoon? I know it is normally ghastly but has Covid impacted that? The traffic may influence my travel on Sunday afternoon as I don’t want to get stuck in that nonsense.

So, is everyone sitting comfortably? Good. Let’s begin.

Enjoy Vegas and Reno/Tahoe! If you have a decent rental car, drive through Death Valley into CA to experience it in the heat (we did that about 20 years ago). To get to PCH, you'll have to take some back roads to get to Bakersfield and then over to the coast. The Big Sur road up to Pebble Beach is very scenic.

A little different than what you've asked, but you avoid the LA crunch.

    Hmmmm I missed that lol

Driving from LA to Vegas on a Sunday afternoon should be a walk in the park after you get out of LA.

DO NOT drive from Vegas to LA on a Sunday afternoon unless you aren’t in a hurry and have a lot of free time

Gaggles was thinking of leaving Vegas to go to LA at 3 pm on Sunday, and he was asking if the traffic would be reduced from normal Sunday traffic, or if it would still be the same nightmare
