    10:15 am ( EST )......June 24 th.......I will be done !
    .
23 years - in this last job.
    .
I have been taking ALOT of vacation days in the last month.
Seems like I've hardly been working ?
Technically, tomorrow is my last day - but I'm taking it off.
    .
    I was playing golf yesterday
and I missed a call from my Boss
She voice mailed that she'd like for me to arrive 2 hrs later
for work ( and therefore, leave later )
    I thought about it ?
Maybe, they have a lunch planned ?
BTW - I requested previously " Please, absolutely nothing for me leaving, I insist. "
All I want to do is GET THE HELL OUT OF HERE !.......on my usual time !
So......I came in to work today at my normal time for the last 23 years .
Lunch or no lunch planned ?.......I'm OUTTA HERE for good.
    My brain is already retired.
I've already started my new life -
Taking care of my 8 yr old + In Laws household + golf - and lotsa home projects I
could never have the time for......like MY WIFE !....ha ha.
    .
It's been a "rocky" relationship with my Boss and her secretary ( who thinks she's The Boss ).
They were especially bad in the last few years -
False accusations + " sinking " my chances for several job/salary promotions to name some things.
And I had to have 2 legal agencies to write letters in my behalf -
to give me some " protection " with my job. ( caused a ruckus with management but
it was the smartest " insurance " I could have bought ! )
It was NOT pretty and it brought me much undo STRESS.
So......my point is.......I don't owe anybody anything at this job !
Not even some luncheon with 2 or 3 people who made my life miserable and now want
to act as if it NEVER happened ?......please !
( I have already " said my goodbyes " with several co workers I consider good friends )
    .
    Anyway.....
I just never thought much about my "pension ".
All those years it was coming out of my paycheck automatically -
I never missed it or thought about retirement ?
My brain still can't comprehend that with my pension + Social Security....
I will be making more money STAYING HOME than commuting ( an hour each way ) to
    work !?!?!?
    .
    Thought I'd share with VMB

    Congratulations Joe!!
My exit plan was simple. I took my 5 weeks of vacation in a row, dropped them a note in week 5 that I was retiring.
No party, cake & lousy coffee.

Another CONGRATULATIONS Joe! You're getting a much better sendoff than I got. After my last "real" job disappeared along with the company, I just never bothered even trying to get another. No party, no cake, not even a goodbye!

I sometimes miss the job (engineering), but sure don't miss the corporate politics and BS. Enjoy your freedom!

    Congratulations!

When you have enough and have had enough it's time to retire. I came to that conclusion 5 years ago and do not regret it for a second.

Congratulations Joe! Sorry to hear that you are leaving under the conditions you described. I have actually given my notice this week of my retirement. The end of September for me. I will be fortunate enough to be leaving on good terms with my employer. I am looking forward to it. Good luck and keep posting!

Congrats, you'll settle into your new life easily. I've been retired almost 3 years now and rarely think about the old job, the exception is when I occasionally talk to my old co workers who are still there, and listen to them bitch about the same old things that always drove me crazy, it always makes me chuckle.

...wishing you a long and healthy retirement! With pension benefits and social security exceeding current earnings, you should have it made in the shade! Congratulations!

Same here. I missed working for about a month and then forget about it.

I have been retired for seven years. My old co-workers are still bitching.

    Joe will love being retired.
