Trying to get some opinions here - I am able to get a free stay at Excalibur for three nights. I have never stayed there, but have visited and know it’s...not great. BUT, I don’t plan to be in my room much.

I have a few acquaintances staying at MGM Grand on some overlapping days, and I wouldn’t mind seeing them a couple of times. How is the walk from Excalibur rooms to MGM Grand rooms (or pools), time wise? I am young and in shape, but I also don’t want to waste an excessive amount of time going back and forth once or twice a day. My plan, with this info, is to determine if free is worth it to me, or if it’s worth spending money to stay in MGM (or NY NY). Thank you all in advance!

I'd say 15-20mins door to door, but you obviously need to factor in walking from your room to the strip, and then the additional walk to the MGM pool. The latter being about 7-10mins I reckon.

Its close, the longest part of the walk is probably to get to the pool once you get to MGM.

You'd walk across the bridge to NYNY, then across the bridge to MGM Grand. (see map)

It's not a bad walk, but I wouldn't want to do it too many times in the summer.

The walk to the MGM property from Excalibur is short. Sky bridges to NYNY to MGM or to Tropicana to MGM. The walk to the pool is long since you have to walk through the casino & restaurant row.

There is a short cut around Starbucks Grand Buffet where you walk through the West Wing & end up around the Mansions casino & L’Atelier which cuts out most of the casino walk.

Two short skybridges so it's not like a trek across the Sahara. As others have noted, it's the jaunts inside that add the steps.

Depends if the walk is door to door then it is extremely close due to the connecting bridges. The part that gets you is that MGM is a large resort and wastes time walking inside.
I always walk majority of the strip. Don't worry about time wasted if you have a drink in your hand and are people seeing and taking in the beauty then it is a perfect excuse simply going point A to point B. If you want to go further then I would consider looking into getting the bus pass.

Note: I am a healthy young individual as yourself and have walked half the strip or more various times actually most of my trips I walk 7+ miles/day but understand to each they want to maximize time more. 24 hour bus pass is a good alternative.

Once or twice a day shouldn't be bad. Even though it will take you 15 to 20 minutes to travel from door to pool, you should also take into consideration the time it would take if you stayed at MGM. I haven't stayed at MGM (just the Signature), but I would assume it would take you at least 5 to 10 minutes to walk to the pool from your room onsite. So in reality, you really are only tacking on 5 to 10 minutes per trip.

Thanks, all, for the feedback. Not loving the idea of staying at Excalibur, but it gives me extra money for food/drink, which is what I really go to Vegas to do (and bet sports, so I can throw a few dollars extra down on that too). I think I'll give it a go, at least for now.

I've made that walk hundreds of times and I hate to walk. It's not far from front door to front door, but can get longer if you go deep in each casino. 75% of time I'm walking from MGM to Luxor or Mandalay which can get a tad long. I HATE walking but never found that walk bad. The only time it's rough is when it's 100+ out side. The walkways are just long enough to heat up.

If the Google Maps scale marker is accurate, it's about 3,250 feet from the port cochere at Excal to the pool area at MGM Grand. I don't think it makes a diff in distance whether you do it by crossing over to NYNY or by crossing over to the Tropicana.

Yep @Zacharius - you should try to find that West Wing short cut. We didn’t walk that way last time, I didn’t realize they switched out the Starbucks for the Buffet.

On the plus side, one time I walked up on a couple smashing on each other in the hallway. Would be good for a laugh if you’re a little drunk.

As others have said it is an easy walk. Cutting through NYNY is easy and can get crowded. You can go to the Tropicana way which is empty since it is closed but yesterday the escalator wasnt working and someone was sleeping on the elevator. So I had to walk up stairs.

Personally I would stay at the MGM to be near the friends.
