So I received a email from Southwest stating my non stop flight from midway to vegas has been changed to a 1 stop in utah on the way there. The best part is I check my return flight home and my flight doesnt exist. I double checked my new flight back which didnt change and it doesnt exist when you look at all the return flights. That flight is completely gone now.

Has anyone ever called SWA about getting there flight back to a non stop and had success. Also seems odd they would email a new intinerary with a return flight that doesnt even exist now.

I would call them.If they change or cancel your flight if they have a seat available on another they will change it for free. They have always been very very nice when that has happened to me.

The email you received has standard language about selecting a new flight. So yeah, you should be able to change to a nonstop flight provided there are seats available on one of them

I got one of those today. My 5pm 1.5 flight from LAS to OAK is now 5pm via Reno, getting home 845.

But I switched to the 640 direct LAS - OAK with no fuss or fee. And getting home earlier than the new itinerary.

Bay Area to Vegas, particularly going frequently, just isn't worth almost 4 hours with a stopover.

Something similar just happened to me. I had a flight booked for Sep 8, Nonstop Indy to LAS leaving 6:05 arriving 7:00 PM.
They changed my flight to one leaving at 5:45 arriving at 8:20? I looked, and that is a 1-stop. When I logged in to change my flight to something better, the original non-stop I was on was still there, just with a slight time change. So I rebooked that, now leaving at 5:15 arriving at 6:10. I consider this better than my original flight, that's great!
But why oh why SWA did you change me to a totally different flight??

That happened to me on the way to Vegas. I called and they gave me the flight I wanted but it seems they are consolidating routes and getting rid of Nonstops from my airport.

Happened to me out of DSM — instead of non-stop, it’s now 2 stops. No thanks. I got my money back and booked Allegiant. We hopefully go in three weeks.

Not to change the OP topic, but just for kicks and giggles, I decided to search my American Airlines flight coming up to check on available seats and current estimated occupancy. I can't find it and it appears a good 20 or so flights that day are now MIA. When I search using the ITA Matrix site, I can see it (and others) if I choose to view all flights and not just those with seats available for purchase. ::shrugs::

Happened to me for my Labor day trip but I was able to go on to website and switch to different non stop flights from ATL. Hard to believe they are only doing 1 flight a day now Non stop to LAS from ATL and still leaving middle seats open. My flight June 4th was sold out without middle seats

I also had my SW flights totally changed with more than 3 hour layovers and two stops instead of one. I called SW and the rep told me they changed 400,000 customer flights today.

A lot of the changes are for social distancing....flights moved, added, subtracted, etc.

The computer (as has been pointed out) seems to consider departure time and find a flight close to that. All of mine (so far) were easy to change online from new connecting flights assigned to nonstop ones at different times.

#1 Rule if you are changed.

Go to website and find the best option for you. Calling in without knowing what you want is a waste of your time.

I would guess 95% of flight changes can be changed by you online - usually at no cost or hassle.

Still, if you are going to call in - check the current schedules first online.

A same day change is usually pretty easy on the SW website. Open up your itinerary and click on change flights. It will then give you the option to change the outbound or inbound or both. Follow through to the selection of flights on the days you are flying and choose nonstops. It will then show which flights are available. There shouldn't be any price difference.

What annoyed me was the nonstop I was on was still on the schedule, and obviously still available since I was able to switch back to it. Seems it was just a time change or maybe they changed a flight number. But instead of leaving me on that nonstop, they changed me to a 1 stop that took 3 hours longer. The whole system seems to be messed up right now.

I got an email this AM From Southwest saying my flight was cancelled and was moved to a flight with 2 stops. I went online and changed it to the next non stop flight. No charge and only getting in 2 hours later. Kind of nice. Was leaving at 530 AM now leaving at 730 AM. Get in at 930 AM

If nothing else, we're all seeing firsthand how the airline industry is responding to heavy reductions in demand.
