I am in the same time zone as Vegas and am settling in to remotely experience the rebirth of Vegas. I must say, I am more excited than New Years and Halloween together. There are so many signs that life is coming back to us: 1) count of unread post is finally above 10K again. 2) twitter and Instagram heating up. 3) life back on earth cams. https://www.earthcam.com/usa/nevada/lasvegas/?cam=catsmeow_lv_fremont If you are in Vegas now, please post Instagram, Tweet, Livestream etc. I am kicking myself for not taking off from work. I just couldn’t believe it would really happen and now I am working
That set-up to enter the canopy is going to be a mess if it gets over-run with people. And it's not inviting at all. 4 cops already running past the Walgreen's. It's only around 9pm. But there's only around 20-25 people milling around.
4 or 5 people at the Welcome sign on the strip. 3 cars went by in the last couple of minutes. I guess it's early. But still.
Watching some cams and live vlogs. Nothing is busy. Nothing. Best thing I can compare it to is a Sunday night in December between the NFR ending and Christmas.
Read on other TR that there's no masks being worn, no distancing at the bars. Will all of these out-of-towners spread this CV to bunches of people who will then fly home to spread to more? I'm disillusioned.
There's no negativity. It is what it is. Even I expected some kind of line to enter the canopy on Fremont across from Walgreen's. It just never happened. The live vlogger walking around downtown didn't come upon crowds. Watching webcams on the strip didn't show any crowds on the strip. Being positive is a good thing. But reality is reality. With pretty much 99% of all the people coming back to Vegas checking in today, we should get a better picture of both the positives and negatives of a reimagined Vegas. But it ain't going to be New Years Eve.
Dude, it's the first day. Casinos have been opened downtown for less than 16 hours. And I have seen a ton of pictures from last night of a packed casino floor at The D and crowds on FSE. The Strip seems kind of sparse so far, but it's still early and have only been open for a few hours. I'm not sure what you expected.
I have been watching everything about Vegas that I could find online over the last 18 hours. I am so glad I never signed up with my with real name. I might get fired if my bosses lurked. So far I am very pleased what I see. I had 2 main fears going into the opening: 1) stampedes and obviously dangerous behavior that would force the governor to intervene. 2) that demand would be lower than the casinos can support. Up to this point the crowds have been disciplined enough for Vegas and there is enough demand that even CET and MGM have to open more casinos sooner than initially planned. Let's be clear about this: considering the pandemic and everything else going on, this is a major win for Vegas so far. We are not in the clear, yet. But when you are up 40:0 at halftime, it is not time to be depressed and gloomy, but time to be confident, focused and proud.
