Two baby hummingbirds awake and ready to leave the nest soon. I’ll miss them. Mama bird has done well.

You are all killin' me with all those harvests already! We had such a late season here. Frost right up until early May. I dropped by my plot today and things are at least moving along.

By August all of us Texas Gardeners will be bitching about the heat and no rain. And we will still have 2 more months of summer left- possibly 3- we never know. I will say for it being May it has been a mild month.

Put tomatoes in pots May 13; I'm hoping to plant tomorrow.

I hear you, midwestees - last year I didn't plant til June 9!

Wait all winter for this time of year - shrubs flowering, beautiful birds, warmth! IMG_20200513_142854441_HDR.jpg IMG_20200530_071152124.jpg IMG_20200523_195730209.jpg IMG_20200523_162945114.jpg

Whenever I find a mystery plant, I let it grow and see what happens. Good luck.

One thing we can rule out, those are not Impatiens.

Agreed! We don’t even bother trying to grow anything in July and August - usually the garden is toast by the end of June. On another note, peach tree is almost finished for the season, looks like the damn squirrels now have their sights set on our bumper crop of tomatoes. Getting out the trap today....

Since we will not be leaving for LV Tues **sigh** we decided to put the plants in now . We headed out toward the country looking for farms that were selling plants....not much luck ...little stock and high prices. Every farmer we talked said the same thing: They were slow in planting for retail sale, not knowing in mid March what was going to happen, if they would even be able to open plus they were unable to get the crews of migrant workers they normally use. Now everybody is looking to put in gardens so they split up the stock. Rather than selling a box of 6 plants, they are selling the plants as singles for the novice gardner.

We did manage to cobble together enough to start and DH planted seeds for the second crop later in the season. Just one more change this year.

Quite the opposite! It is a fuel burning fan. We do things a bit backwards in these parts:)

Up here weather is an issue for the grapes three times a year. Sometimes we get an early frost before the grapes are ready for harvest, sometimes we get a late frost as the vines are budding and sometimes we will get something a little more extreme in the heart of winter that can damage or kill the vines. The fans are used to circulate enough air to bring the temp up a few degrees which can make the difference between having a harvest or not.

They are as loud as freaking helicopters and make it tough to sleep in the middle of January when they go off! I would say since we have been here, the one in our backyard (temp controlled) has gone off 5-10 times a year.

For some reason they bother me more than the bird bangers that go off close to harvest time even though a lot of people hate those.
