Las Vegas Casinos to Reopen June 4th

I'm not sure I love all this wording in the statement put out by the Governor. I posted the link to the full remarks and my summary of it here - https://www.vegasmessageboard.com/forums/index.php?posts/2038909/

Here is the pertinent part for us:

"Now I want to talk about gaming. last week, I set a target reopening date of Thursday, June 4, for our gaming industry. Based on the meeting today and the positive trends in our data, I have informed teh Chair of the Gaming Control Board that I feel confident in the June 4th target date."

"It is critical to put the health and safety of employees, residents and visitors first through proactive measures, coupled with the Health and Safety Policies issued by the Gaming Control Board. This is what will help ensure that Nevada can safely reopen its gaming industry on June 4."

"The Board will issue an industry notice tomorrow setting forth requirements for the resumption of gaming operations in the State of Nevada. As always, I encourage Nevadans to stay vigilant and protect themselves against this virus. Our goal is to prevent a surge in cases that our health care system can not handle. We cannot do this without each of you accepting the personal responsibility to follow the social distancing in professional and personal decisions."

"We know from the medical experts, until there is a cure or vaccine, social distancing is the most powerful response we have to slow the spread of COVID-19. It's very simple - when you are out in public, wear a mask or face covering, practice social distancing and wash your hands. Our actions now will determine what actions we can take in the future. It's our personal responsibility to stay safe for ourselves, and others, and to work together through this process. So, please, put on your face covering when you leave your house. Help protect your fellow Nevadans. Wear your face covering like a badge of honor. Thank you!"

Later, there was a press call I was not able to listen to, but here are the notes from Michelle Rindels of the Nevada Independent taken from Twitter:

On a press call, Sisolak said he thinks Phase 2 would last probably 2-3 weeks. To move to next phases, he'll be looking at a continued decline in the rate of positive tests, more testing, build-up of infrastructure to contact trace

While the rate of the positives among all tests is going down as the number of tests goes up, a not-insignificant raw number of cases is still being found. Sisolak said he doesn't have a figure at which he'd say the raw numbers are too high and we need to revert

Sisolak does say that it's important that if anyone you've been in contact with has tested positive, it's very important for you to get tested to help slow the spread

Chief of Staff Michelle White indicates the travel advisory - which advises people coming to the state to self-quarantine for 14 days - will be updated later in the week.

Sisolak said state is willing to pull back on reopening if problems emerge. COS Michelle White says state officials have put a lot of thought into how to contact trace for visitors who are moving around and returning to other states.

Asked about how to enforce social distancing at bars, Sisolak said there is no shortage of people reporting issues and businesses not enforcing rules could lose license. "I don't think it's worth losing your business license to let someone come up to the bar and get a beer."

Asked if employees will approach social distancing rule breakers at casinos, Sisolak says they'll be educating patrons but aren't law enforcement. "Gaming Control Board is going to be very aggressive about being on the properties and making sure people are complying" with rules.

That's about it. So it sounds like June 4th is the opening date. We're going to get further guidance from the Gaming Control Board tomorrow.

The Nevada Gaming Control Board has released their new plan, prior to the casinos opening on June 4, 2020.

On May 7, the Nevada Gaming Commission ratified this Policy and confirmed the Board’s ongoing responsibility to issue health and safety policies for the gaming industry. On May 27, the Governor directed the Board to promulgate requirements for a phased and incremental resumption of gaming operations, and confirmed that the failure of a gaming licensee to comply with any such requirements shall be considered injurious to the public health, safety, morals, good order, and general welfare of the inhabitants of the State, and constitute a failure to comply with the Governor’s Emergency Directives.

There needs to be signage throughout the property to remind patrons of proper hygiene, including, without limitation, proper handwashing, how to cover coughs and sneezes and to avoid touching their faces.
