Breaking News!! The Governor just announced he plans to hold a press conference on Tuesday, May 26th to discuss the next phase for Nevada.

Pending the trends in case numbers in Nevada, and the results of a meeting with the Gaming Control Board, it appears he will be announcing an opening date for the casinos of June 4, 2020.

I urge some caution, because the language in there does not say that they are definitely opening on the 4th, but all signs look good that they are going to announce moving forward on Tuesday.

So many other states are reopening casinos (with restrictions) there is no compelling reason not to reopen.

I’m booked now for the 4th. Will it hold up? Maybe. All I can do is hope. I did like what the Governor said this morning during the Vegas Chamber of Commerce call about wanting other states to know Vegas will be the safest vacation spot and people will feel more safe in Vegas than their home area.

I'm pretty sure that will be the announcement, but we live in strange times. Don't head to the airport right now, but if you're itching, now you have a target date.:)

Please don't editorialize on your opinion of the Governor. That runs up against our No Politics rule.

I agree @Sonya regarding heading to the airport. Las Vegas also has a lot more at stake relative to casinos in x, y, z town in terms of negative longer-term economic effects if they get it "wrong" in terms of opening too soon or there is a significant resurgence in cases. Fingers crossed though.

Not sure if this is the right place to ask this, but if the Governor does give the green light for the 4th, Do the resorts that are taking reservations on the 1st open up the resort hotels only or do you think they just cancel til then?

I don’t gamble much but I put money on “cancel”. June 1-4 is probably a low-rate, weekday period anyways so I doubt they’re making much on their rooms. Would almost be dumb of them to open up only the hotel...my understanding is they could have been doing that all along anyways (but I may be wrong).

That’s what I was thinking too, but I know the Tuscany off strip opened their hotel, pool, and restaurants today with the casino blocked off.

I agree with the others and would expect them to cancel. The 4th is a Thursday.

Of course, I've been wrong before. :)

Should be interesting to see how this plays out. You can not compare most other states and gaming to Vegas in many aspects. Mainly because gaming is so LARGE in Vegas compared to other states. Pretty much all casinos will contribute to some amount of infections. Maybe just a few, but nothing major. One infection out of a xxx thousand patrons in a small casino is not newsworthy. Do that in a larger city like Vegas, and it becomes news.

Can you imagine the backlash if he decides not to open on the 4th?

I'm not sure it's entirely up to Sisolak at this point. He has said he will defer to the Gaming Control Board on opening the casinos. They are meeting with the health advisors on Tuesday and then with the governor. His press conference is after that. GCB has quite a bit of power there, IMO.

I would like to hear why, in April, there was no way casinos would open until Phase Three or Four, where gatherings over 50 people are allowed (per NV and federal plans) and now it's fine. What changed? I'm not holding my breath.

I'm also emailing around to try to find out if there is a plan for what to do if a tourist gets sick and removed from a casino, but can't get on a plane. Is there a place to put them up for 14+ days, or are they on their own? Hopefully I will connect with someone who can answer before people start heading back.

I think this would be a major concern in any tourist area if they start checking temps at airports.

All of this waiting is painful. I’ve booked 2 vacations during the same time period just to see which one pans out. Hoping that some time in the desert and Vegas casinos is the end result

An article in the Review Journal this morning (Sunday) says Boyd is gearing up for June 4th and Sisolak will will make a statement announcing that date. I think we all know what the general regs will be, but hearing it will confirm.
One thing I'm curious about is occupancy control. For arguements sake, let's say my cap is 1000. It's 4pm and I'm at max. 20 hotel guests come down to enter the casino. Do they have to wait, do non guests have to leave or what? I have heard possible %s of cap, but not how this might be monitored. It's the one aspect I haven't heard discussed. Any thought?
