Daydreaming: Which suite would you pick?

Summary: Daydreaming about actually getting to Vegas this August and want to know which room/suite to choose as a “replacement” for our canceled honeymoon.

Backstory: My wife and I (both in our early 30s) are planning to head to Vegas for 3 nights in August before going to a wedding in San Diego. When we booked in January, we intended to make this a summer trip since it's cross country travel for us. I originally booked us the cheapest thing I could find at Flamingo due to location and the fact she really doesn't care about the room or casino, so long as it's clean and has a good pool. Personally I like the Flamingo Go Pool and we also already planned to spend 1 day at the MGM pool on a day bed. I have been to Vegas a handful of times (but mostly on guys trips) and stayed in a bunch of mid-level properties, but nothing nicer than the Delano. I like to gamble for a few hours each trip but don’t mind heading to another property as I prefer cheaper limits.

Fast forward to now...we had to cancel our island honeymoon in March (and who knows if/when it will get rebooked) and we are itching to travel. I noticed that everything in Vegas is dirt cheap (I also am Caesars Diamond and Hilton Diamond). I ended up booking us into a Junior Suite at the Waldorf Astoria since their rewards rates are super cheap, making the stay essentially free for me, and the location is excellent. I also assume it’s nicer than any property I’ve ever stayed in, anywhere. Again, I don’t necessarily care about staying inside a casino/hotel so long as they are relatively close by.

My question: The WA looks awesome and my chances at an upgrade to the 1 bedroom suite are probably decent, but there are a ton of suites at other properties that look as nice if not nicer. I want my wife to be wowed by the hotel room, even if we won’t be spending too much time in it. Examples: MGM Penthouse City View Suite is <$300/night with fees, Cosmo Terrace Suite is $400/night with fees. Caesars Julius Executive Suite is $370/ night total. I wouldn’t say we have a giant wad of cash burning a hole in our pockets, but we also don’t mind spending up to $400/ night given our lack of honeymoon. Would you stay at the WA or would you move elsewhere?

 

I can only comment on Cosmo, but a Terrace Suite, primarily a Fountain View, is pretty unsurpassed in Vegas. The rooms are pretty cool but sitting on the Terrace, having drinks and watching the Bellagio Fountain show is a definite wow moment. I would also say that the vibe of the hotel hits your demographic. If you can spend a bit more, a Parlor Suite at the Wynn would be a fantastic choice.

 

@Shmuey, I've never been to WA in Las Vegas but have stayed at the one in NYC. It's a fantastic hotel with exemplary service and amenities.
I'd say go for it, especially if you have the rewards rate and can use the rest of your travel budget for more fun and experiences in Vegas with your wife.

 

Is this for weekend or mid-week dates? The prices on suites mid-week are pretty great right now. I got 6/28-6/30 in a Encore Parlor Suite for $680/night, One Bedroom Lakeview Suite at Bellagio from 6/30-7/3 for $528 a night, and Wraparound Terrace at Cosmo from 7/3-7/6 for $410 a night set up for our trip in a little over a month. You could get a Bellagio Penthouse suite without the fountain view for $300 a night in that same time frame.

 

These are mid-week rates. How do the Bellagio rooms compare to Comso?

 

The Waldorf Vegas isn't the Waldorf Beverly Hills. The guest rooms were supposed to be updated this year as they are getting beaten up. The reviews on Trip Advisor speak for themselves. While still a good property, it isn't spectacular.

Have a look at the Panoramic Penthouse at Delano. You get 180 degree views, top 3 floors of the hotel.

Aria's Tower Suites are also a good deal, a Sky Suite if the $ is right. Both come with lounge access. Sky Suite comes with limo to and from the airport plus use of the Sky Pool, lines passes and a guaranteed high floor.

The only suites at MGM that are spectacular outside Skylofts ane The Mansion are the Skyline Terrace Suites but these run approx $600 a night plus. Thetly are gorgeous though being two stories, and having a 700 sqft balcony with lounge and dining areas.

 

I have never stayed at Cosmopolitan, so I probably am not qualified to compare them, but I would say that judging from the common sentiment on this board that most people seem to prefer the Cosmo terrace enough that they would prefer to stay there over most of the equivalent size room types at Bellagio. That being said, I have stayed several times in the Bellagio penthouse suites and have found them to be quite nice, enormous in size (1,400 sq Ft, and having separate his/her master baths is a pretty cool perk. I still prefer the Encore parlor suites which are roughly the same size but with 1.5 baths instead of 2.5 like the Bellagio. However I have read enough reviews and watched enough walkthroughs of the Cosmo wraps to say that it looks like an amazing suite and I am very much looking forward to be in one for 4th of July.

 

My suggestion would be to get yourself a nice fountainview room at Cosmo.

The rooms are an upgrade from Delano. If you have to spend a bit more time in your room...the balcony will come in handy. Add some food and drinks....

Save the WA for another time.

 

I was at the WA when it was still the MO. Rooms are showing age, but the property is the best in terms of tranquillity at Vegas. I did not like that it didn’t give me the full Begas experience. It left like Vegas adjacent. Especially with the upcoming changes going in and out of casinos may not always be seamless. I would stay at a casino that would fulfill all you needs in case you can’t move around freely. Of your choices, I would take Cosmo.

 

This is probably closer to $500 per night net midweek (or more during busier weeks), but you might want to consider adding the Cypress Suite at the Bellagio into the mix. You know the column that runs up the middle of the hotel? That's what these rooms are, giving you a front-and-centre view of the fountains. Also has his/hers bathrooms, one with a steam shower, the other with a jetted tub.

 

Just checked Bellagio website for rates on that room midweek in August and it looks like the base rate is $310, so figure with resort fees and taxes around $400 a night.

 

I had a 1 bedroom terrace suite at Cosmo, boulevard tower, premium view. Only view I'd ever pay for in LV. Room was in excellent repair, super nice, a little odd in functional usable space.

I was at Bellagio for a 1-nighter in February and they upgraded me to a giant suite... I think its officially called 2-bedroom. Massive living room, a full bar, powder room, dining area, big master bedroom, huge bathroom with big tub and steam shower. 3 times the size of Cosmo suite. But it showed its age. Mostly good repair, but the furnishing felt very 1990s.

You say you're in your 30s... choose Cosmo over Bellagio.

 

Wow! Even though I promised myself I'd save this suite for a trip in which I'm with an SO, I'd snatch that right up at that price.

 

Wraparound Terrace suites running a little higher for the same August dates I put in for that cypress suite at Bellagio. $150 premium for the fountain view. Not sure how Cosmo is on upgrading free for better views if they have availability. Seeing these prices though I consider it a steal to have gotten that suite for $410 a night over 4th of July weekend even though I’m sure they are projecting low occupancy at that time.

 

I don't want to recommend moving or not, but I'd rank those rooms in this order:

1. Cosmo Terrace Suite
2. MGM Grand Penthouse City View Suite
3. Caesars Julius Executive Suite

However, there is an issue with the MGM room because there is only something like 8 - 12 of them. I got bumped out of
it once (and I was paying, not comped) and I'd be concerned that it could happen to you.

A room at WA is going to be more nicely appointed than the Cosmo Terrace Suite (especially after their remodel), but it's hard to beat the balcony and view at Cosmo. But of course "almost free" is pretty good. IF you move, I'd suggest going for Cosmo.
