Mystic Lake in MN is reopening 5/26 and their information says masks are required. Smoking will still be allowed but it says they've designated smoking areas inside the casino. (Instead of how it used to be with a designated non-smoking area). I copied the below from their site. I notice it doesn't say temporary - we'll just have to wait and see.

Will you become a smoke-free property?

For the health and safety of our guests and team members, a larger portion of our casino floor will become smoke-free. Smoking will be limited to a reduced number of slot machines, and not permitted at any blackjack tables, bars, cashiers cage, Club M® or Mystic Bingo®.

Maybe people would move from the smoking casino to the non smoking?

I mention this without trying to get into the FOR or AGAINST smoking debate - that never ends.

Non-Smokers as well as Smokers blow out clouds of their breath into the air every minute. No breath, no life. Smoke just lets you see where their breath is. I live in a cold climate and I see the breath of people all winter.

    He's not smoking, just breathing.

I've been thinking about how to make a mask that will allow smokers to keep smoking. I think a short tube that you hold the cigarette up to, with a one way valve into the mask should do the trick.

Life changes. When I was in my teens we smoked in whatever restaurant we went to. It was the normal thing to do. Then all of the sudden there was a nonsmoking section. They asked you which one you wanted when you walked in the door. Eventually restaurants became entirely nonsmoking. Surprisingly, people did not quit eating. Same with airplanes, and yet people still flew. If you ask anyone who can remember that far back if they ever thought there would come a time when they couldn't smoke in any restaurant, have to stand 10 feet away from a building to smoke, etc., well, see what they tell you.

Sometimes you don't get a choice. Many say that if a casino doesn't allow them to smoke, they'll just go to the next one. And the next one, until there aren't any. Do you believe that if there is NO place left to smoke in casinos that all those people will quit gambling? Well, they haven't stopped eating and they haven't stopped flying. I'm not debating whether people should or shouldn't smoke, I'm just saying that at some point it's not up to us. A casino and hotel are probably easier to keep clean without smoking. employees healthier, a far larger percentage of the population does not smoke, so if an industry sees an opportunity to make that transition, maybe it is going to happen. It will eventually. When it does, the less than 20 percent of the population that smokes will bitch like hell for a while, then nonsmoking will be the new normal. IMO

So let me think about this.

A casino won't force you to wear a mask but what comes out or your mouth (virus droplets) might be harmful to the person next to you.

But, a casino won't allow you to smoke because what comes out of your mouth (smoke) might be harmful to the person next to you ?

    BTW this thread is doomed.

I hate these threads. There is no one right answer, but everyone is always sure theirs is the only right answer. :bang:

Same! Well, not exactly as I was in the Quinault Casino for lunch and a little slots in February. In my defense, there's not a lot to do in Ocean Shores in February that doesn't involve the casino. :) I can count on one hand the number of times I've been in our local since 2001. They have a grand total of 4 VP machines and they are always full, despite being terrible. I go to the tribals in Oregon more than I do the ones in WA. ;)

Tulalip is opening May 26th with no smoking. I haven't looked at EQC or Muckleshoot, but I would expect the same.

I have heard (from a YouTube video at a casino outside Vegas) as with eating and drinking, depending on the property, you remove your mask to smoke, then put it on.

This is not at every casino, but I'm sure some are considering it even for the short term.

Situation dependant, like everything else, we won't know until it happens.

Only if people keep shitposting in here, trying to make it go off the rails. There are quite a few of us in here able to act like grownups. You could at least try not to be part of the problem. :blah:

At my local casino, I swear sometimes I am the only one in the casino that is not smoking!

Apologies. I’m a born debater and I forgot (briefly) this is not meant as a debate forum. At least for heavier things beyond dice influencing.

I agree with you, but if you watch anyone smoking a cigarette you won't see them "breathing" regular, instead you'll see them typically take a decent drag then all that comes out much stronger than a normal exhale. Now, factor in breathing out when one is wearing a mask and it definitely impedes the range of the breath. Oh, and your photo looks like he's warming up his hands which also isn't a typical "breath."

I haven’t seen it mentioned it reopening plans. I am a non smoker. But have no issues with people smoking in Vegas. It is just part of being there. I can’t see this happening when part of the draw of Vegas is anything goes. But who knows at this point.

If you’re allowing drink service on the floor it’s hard to ban smoking for COVID reasons. You’re pulling a mask (or not wearing one at all) in either situations. The health of being exposed to second hand smoke is a separate issue, and I wonder with all the variables and headaches involved in reopening if properties really want to make that effort.

I live in Indiana and they are saying our casinos will open non-smoking. Not sure how long that will last. I think this is a great opporuntunity to make casinos non smoking. I know the dealers would love it.

No one knows or should assume he / she “knows” how the smoking versus non smoking issue in casinos will end up; anything is possible and the casinos will have the final word.

I’m a non smoker going to Vegas for almost 20 years now. My attitude is from an old Doris Day song ”Que Sera, Sera” (btw, that’s a ginger ale toast) :haha:

The closest you will get to non-smoking ,is the odd table....that’s about it.
