Will you ever eat in a Vegas Buffet again?

If we spent time thinking about what goes on in restaurant kitchens, food processing plants, etc we'd all be eating only what we grew ourselves.

Amen. And I'd suggest that no matter how tidy bowl folks think they are, that home kitchen ain't exactly NASA Clean Room clean.

Always love getting my piled up plate of shrimp with a wedge of lemon & cocktail sauce and a Stella Artois on draft at Wynn.
Cosmo dishes are pretty solid too.
Hopefully, things will work out as all of this shakes down. I believe Vegas will find a way.
    I'd go back.

Before all of this madness my wife and I wanted to have a dinner buffet at the Wynn. We've only experienced brunch there before.

Yum @ardee !:feedme: You're dish and choice of beer has stimulated my Vegas groove again! (prior to the pandemic I was planning to take a break from Vegas for a while...…..lol!)

It will be interesting to see as our local Casino (Turning Stone) is going to be opening early next month. They have a popular buffet there.

I honestly don't see the buffets totally going away. Why? People like them, and where there is a demand, there will be a supply.

Thinking back, when I was growing up, "cafeterias" and "automats" were the rage. Each dish was individually plated. In the former, they were served on a steam line similar to those in casino buffets, but with individual plates for each item. In the latter, they were served from coin-operated units. These began to disappear in maybe the mid 1970s or so, but seemed to be replaced by the "Smorgasbord" places (although not as many), which were self serve and much like today's Golden Corral and Hometown Buffet, and yes, casino buffets.

Then there was the oft-maligned high school cafeteria. Selection was limited, but hot items were dished out in real time by a server behind the steam line, and cold items were plated or wrapped individually.

I can envision buffets going to a mix of plated dishes, as was common with desserts, and real-time plating, as with carving stations and some dessert sections.

Price points? Unfortunately that's a no brainer as to which direction these will go, but I'm thinking in terms of break-even, as pre-Corona buffets were reputed to be, as an attraction to get people in to play.

Reading David Mc Kee's Stiffs and Georges column in the LVA, and seeing that the M Buffet is history, that was the last buffet in Las Vegas that I liked. Then he further dampens the mood to want to return to LAS by mentioning that restaurants/eating places in casinos will have prepackaged food, therefore so called "fresh" food served in casino restaurants is not to going to happen at least immediately. Talk about necessity being the mother of invention, I'd say there's a couple of issues there that need fixing tout de suite!

Buffets are so perfect for so many people. Grandma demands shrimp, dad wants roast beef, kids want pizza, and people want to shove food in and get back to gaming. It will take a while, but eventually they'll be back in numbers and folks will eat at them.

A buffet has always been a bad choice for me. I can't resist eating too much of the wrong things because, after all, I paid for it. And the food usually disappoints.

Only thing is that everybody has to eat. Without buffets, diners in regular restaurants will probably need to wait longer. Also, restaurants will be deluged with cheap diners, and some may lower standards.

I eat about half my meals at buffets every trip and most are at reduced price or free.

I'm guessing about half of them in town won't reopen.

The only buffet I love is Wicked Spoon at the Cosmo. I don't go to over eat, but to try a bit of lots of things.

That said, I eat at the buffet at whatever property I'm staying at almost once a day. It's just convenient. It's not a cheap and I feel most buffets are not worth the price, but you don't need a reservation, can always find something for everyone and you save time ordering and waiting for food.

I would say yes. I haven't eaten at that many Vegas buffets (only Aria and Wynn) but I enjoy the buffets at my local casinos. My theory is that the buffets are either going to close permanently or find a way to reopen with safety precautions mentioned previously by many of you in this thread like everything behind glass, plated for you, etc.

Since I have no intention of going to a half closed Vegas or a Vegas where I don't feel safe just walking around and being there, once things improve and we get to the point where I would feel comfortable visiting Vegas, I don't think going or not going to a buffet would be a concern of mine at that point. If I wasn't comfortable going to a buffet I wouldn't be making the trip at all.

I hope Wicked Spoon survives, that one is next on my list to try!

I hope so...I cant imagine not having a dinner at Bacchanal, or at Wicked Spoon when I'm in town..

Again, it may be slightly modified during the flu madness, but I seriously doubt they'll go away forever.

I have no intention of going to a half closed Vegas either. Doubt I'll go this year.

Yes, absolutely will. It's not like buffets were without contamination risk before all this started, and I still chose to go.

If I don't develop the buffet waddle at least once during a Vegas trip, then the trip was not a success. I would go today if they were open.

I really like buffets - I like the choice and maybe tasting something I haven't had before...however, if they serve it I think it'll seem like a cafeteria -- and sometimes I take a tiny amount of something as I just want a taste - I think they will just pile it on.. so not a fan of them serving me. Why not give everyone gloves when they go into the line - and make them leave the gloves at the end of the line - if they come up for seconds, they get a new pair of gloves... maybe no small children up at the buffet line... I would miss them if they didn't have buffets - they just are part of my casino experience
