Gianni Russo who played Carlo wrote a book last year and it was great. He was in the mob and details how he got the part and he later owned a club in Vegas.

One was epic, Two was interesting to me because of the backstory. Three, well lets say so - so, the silent scream at the end of Three was a direct steal from the Pawnbroker. A scene that still fascinates me to this day from Three was when Mosca the Assassin has one of the Twin Bodyguard's hand around his neck (he has already killed this Twin) and is leaning up against the wall pretending that he has been killed by this Twin. When the second Twin arrives Mosca "comes alive" and reaches out and kills the other Twin Bodyguard - WOW who could have thought of a scene like this?

I voted GF2, but I only give it a slightest edge, both one and two were great. I've probably seen each at least 35-40 times. If either is on when I'm surfing, I'll watch at least 20 min. I just can't ignore either one. GF3 on the other hand, I've never watched the whole movie. Take Sophia Copolla out of the equation and I don't think it even gets made.

I read it after I saw the movie, then my asst mgr did also. We enjoyed talking about it, mafia etc. Next I bought the Vallache Papers which was based on a true story. We both read it and tried to figure out which characters in the GF were supposed to be the real mafiosa. Lots of discussions on that one.

    I read Gianni Russo's book
    I liked it......but I don't believe all of it.
I think of it as a screenplay - for his life - to be a movie at some point.
A mix of fiction and truth........ Hollywood "Artistic License"
    .
    John Cazale -
Just watched him in "The Deer Hunter" last night.
The guy made acting look so easy.

    BTW
My classmate was the lead actress in the stage play within the movie.
DeNiro and the other guy( ?) go to see this play and accidently run
into "The Black Hand " in the theater.
She was the lead actress on the stage - in that scene.
    Pretty cool......to say " I was in The Godfather " ?

Yeah I felt some of it had to be sensationalized, almost too interesting to be true

Two is the best and my favorite is the courtroom scene when Pentangeli recant his testimony about Michael.
Michael Corleone said this and Michael Corleone said that and I said Yeah Sure.
Cracks me up the way he says it

Two is the only sequel to win an Oscar.

I came in late to the game and didn't see the movies til the mid 80s.

I choose Godfather 1 mostly because of Michael at the hospital, trying to save his father.
The cigarette scene outside the hospital with Enzo won me over. Brilliant editing and cinematography. Just perfect.

One of the things that really amazes me about The Godfather is that Francis Ford Coppola was only 32 years old when he directed this classic. He was actually the studio's 12th or so choice to direct. Coppola and George Lucas owned a fledgling movie studio at the time that was having financial problems and Lucas had to convince Coppola, who thought Puzo's novel was cheesy, to take on the job so their business could survive. IIRC, Coppola signed on for about $150k and fought the studio every inch of the way, just like Lucas would in the not too distant future, to make the movie with his vision.

You would’ve taken my money on a bar bet. I forgot about the Lord of the Rings trilogy.

Herman Roth? Does that mean Fred Gwynne played Hyman Munster?
