Growing up I was a big fan of the Pet Shop Boys and I loved their remake of Always on my Mind, this live version adds a little Vegas to it as it features The Killers.

I just happened to hear the worst all time (and my personal favorite) cover today. William Shatner covering Lucy in the Sky.

I would agree. The original was classic Motown, but Osborne's cover had added depth. It didn't hurt that her backing band was comprised of most of the Funk Brothers that played on the original. Listen to the intro to both for the evidence.

I'll have to find the time to go through all of these.

My contribution - Act Naturally by The Beatles, covering Buck Owens.

    Ed Sullivan Show, 1965.

Oh really? I can see it, though. (Or rather hear it.) :)

Actually, I prefer Alex Chilton's original better.

I guess you could call this a cover song. I mean, it's really a traditional folk song, and everyone has done it. But I think the Animals took it to its' current level.

I thought no one knows who wrote it but, not a traditional folk song.

This was part of the doc "Standing in the shadows of Motown." They supplied the music for a large number of Motown hits until the early 70s and largely unheralded. LA had the Wrecking Crew, Memphis had Booker T and the MGs and Motown had the Funk Brothers. They had a destinctive sound.
