on the front page of todays wall street journal----

passengers with a temperature of 100.4 degrees would be flagged----

people with high tempertures would be turned over to officials with the CENTERS FOR DESEASE CONTROL AND PREVENTION--no further info on what occurs----sounds like a good idea

not too bad if this happens on the way out to vegas------wind up going back home and change or cancel plans

so-----many of us would fly out to vegas with no issues-----then on the way back after you check out of your room you get flagged with a high temperature at the airport------looks like you would get treatment if warranted----could be a mess if you get quarantined------where would you go after getting flagged and no immediate treatment needed ?----has anyone heard or read if hotels will be taking temperatures?------looks like a back-up plan of some kind is needed

I would think if on the way home and you arrived without a temperature (unless 14 days comes into play) you are housed, monitored, and sent on your way once cleared all at no cost.
Seriously. If there’s a possible cost to the individual then there will be attempts to circumvent the process to avoid possible crazy personal costs.
Surely there is more information And more steps. I am certain we will find out the details, very soon. They’re working on them now.
    Really. They are.

Cost or no cost, that possibility would put an end to my flying anywhere. I get it that it makes me safer on the flight if I don't have a temperature, but the potential of a quarantine is something I can't accept. Same with temperatures being taken at the hotel I'm staying in. Nope.

You can check on Sonya's thread about the virus - all the latest. I did see an article about the Wynn and they plan to install some type of thermal scanner for temperatures. My only concern is the summer heat. You can run a temperature if you get overheated and in Vegas that won't be hard to do. I'm sure they will account for that. Also babies/toddlers when they are teething -- their temps go up to 101 or higher -- they aren't sick just teething. I can see where that could cause some problems with family travelers. Hopefully with TSA common sense will prevail but......

As far as TSA checking temps. Hydrate good before you fly and pop some motrin or Tylenol that's what I plan on doing about an hour before I get to the airport - just in case.

That would be the ideal situation, but I haven't seen anything specific yet about what the plans are. I know here in WA they had purchased some closed hotels to house people who need to quarantine outside of their home.

All I've heard is that if you have a temperature of 100.4 or higher, you will be removed from the flight and turned over to some medical center for testing and.... uh I dunno.

Wynn's Plan for Reopening, submitted to the Gaming Board, says that they will be using thermal scanners and thermometers to test all people who enter the casino. If you have a temperature above 100.4, you will be removed from the property and an ambulance will be called to take you to the hospital for testing. If you are currently a guest in the hotel, security will take you up to your room to allow you to gather your belongings.

They also did not say anything else about what happens to you then. I assume at least a 14 day quarantine, but I have no idea where.

They did address the summer heat issue. If you are tested and have a higher temperature, they will retest you again after 10-15 minutes of being inside. Hopefully it would be enough time for it to come down enough from being outside in the 112 degree heat. :)

I recommend that everyone be aware of these new policies/rules. We had a member here last year be refused boarding for being drunk when she hadn't even been drinking recently. She had to spend an extra night in Vegas. Stuff happens. :) It may not be an issue, but I would do my best to be sure to have some kind of back up plan of somewhere you could go if you end up stuck unable to return home and needed to quarantine.

I am on the lookout for more information on this. I hope that when the casinos are ready to open, we can get a little more information about this before they welcome thousands of people from out of town.

This is interesting and quite scary. I can already see myself getting stuck in SEA/SFO/SLC after a long day of work in the back of a hot service center.

I think this is the same protocol for entering the Wynn. They posted their specifics weeks ago—it's on here somewhere.

Based on what I have read, the TSA is putting together a plan, and has done some field testing. I have not seen where they have actually made the final decision to roll this out. If someone has a link, that would be great.

By the way, along with a google search, I just looked at https://www.tsa.gov/coronavirus They have a chart showing how many TSA staff tested positive. Mostly intl airports, plus a big jump at New Orleans. JFK at 114.

"Overall, TSA has had 570 federal employees test positive for COVID-19. 359 employees have recovered, and 6 have unfortunately died as a result of the virus. We have also been notified that one screening contractor has passed away due to the virus."

Found the article, posted elsewhere. Excerpt:

TSA Preparing to Check Passenger Temperatures at Airports

Travelers would have temperatures checked at about a dozen airports under plans that are still under discussion
.....U.S. officials are preparing to begin checking passengers’ temperatures at roughly a dozen airports as soon as next week, according to people familiar with the matter.

Details of the plan are still being completed and are subject to change, the people said. It couldn't be determined which airports will initially have the new scanning procedures.

Thermal monitoring does not show a lack of common sense. Now IF/WHEN it is rolled out and if not a complete plan with contingencies it will show a lack of common sense.

Just window dressing to try to make people feel safe. The CDC already said they didn't want any involvement with it.
People with false positives will be pissed off. Others will just take Tylenol or put ice packs on their forehead beforehand to make sure they don't miss their flight, because they think "I'm sure it's just a cold".

Our city implemented thermal reading early on for access to city hall and police and fire stations. Employees and anyone with an appointment to do business.

I wonder if the locals will see a big bump in business because of some of the new procedures that might be implemented. People (like me) want to get out and play, but don't want the risk of being quarantined or stranded out of state. If a local casino wants to send me home, no problem. All my mouths to feed might make me a special case, who knows, going local could be where it's at for a while.

San Antonio hospitals are already using rapid COVID tests - they take 15-30 minutes to get results. Hopefully this would be the case in Las Vegas soon if they don't have it already. So if you do get tested you could have results quickly and not be asked to leave the hotel and lose your room. There are all kinds of reasons people run fever besides a respiratory virus. Bladder infection comes to mind -- and those are not contagious. STDs can cause fevers too --this could be a problem in Vegas-- :D.

I have a 4 night stay booked for June at the Wynn - via the app. I will be cancelling. I don't know when I will stay there and will just bank my gems for now. My September stay is booked at MGM - I understand resorts want to keep people safe. I am very concerned about being stuck somewhere with no Hotel room and a flight I can't board. Plus calling an ambulance for a fever is something my insurance will not pay for. I will definitely be very informed before I take a Vegas trip regarding TSA and Vegas Resort policies.

I will definitely bring my own thermometer to Vegas if and when I go back.

I get my temperature taken before every shift after walking briskly for a half mile at 5am...always register 93.2-93.7 degrees F. Lol at these supposed safety measures. But apparently others have been sent home for 3 days off of the same instant read thermometer, so who knows.

If the threat of being quarantined for high temp is followed up on, I can garantee that air travel will be dealt an even bigger blow.

You're not being quarantined for a high-temperature. You'll be refused boarding for a high temperature and sent for testing. What happens after that is the thing we're not sure about yet.

I just done see how they do thermal testing in vegas in the summer? If it's 108 out, almost everyone will have hot skin.

This thread is about TSA. I would assume you had been inside the airport for some period of time before getting to a TSA or airline check point. Most of them aren't 108 degrees. :)

Most people move quickly when entering the airport, I know I do, once I enter the airport I almost run to either get my boarding pass or to the TSA (in case theres' a backup). If my temp was elevated on entering, it's not going to be much lower when I get to TSA.
