Only worked with the Bulls, Phil Jackson tried with Lakers . I personally don't think it will work in Today's NBA. But that is my opinion.

In 1999, Winter followed Jackson to Los Angeles, where the triangle offense became the cornerstone of a Lakers team that won three championships from 2000 to 2002. So Lakers won 5 tittles running the triangle.:peace:

    My two cents:
The Bulls didn't win running the triangle. MJ won running the triangle! Big difference. And other teams have run it too with nowhere near the same results (looking at you Quinn Buckner Mavs)

The Lakers threepeat team did not run it much (because Shaq wasn't a strong enough passer; they mostly ran those sets when he was on the bench). The Kobe/Gasol Lakers ran the offense more, but they were really more of a pick and roll team. Plus, they won those two championships primarily with their defense. Their offense was pretty average. But defensively, those two teams were beasts. Its hard to imagine with the style of play that currently dominates basketball, but those lakers rolled out three seven footers who could all play well all on the court at the same time and just killed teams on the glass.

Golden State tried to install it and gave up, It's a difficult offense to install, I guess.

The Bulls needed that style to counter the really strong defensive teams like the Pistons and Knicks.

There are a whole bunch of players that could never play that style...

There is no need for it on today’s game.....

Even the Bulls only ran it less than 50% of the time.

I recall an article (I think on the old ESPN Page Two section of their website) years ago that talked about Phil Jackson visiting a team in, I think, the Phillipine league that ran the triangle on every possession. Even Jackson seemed surprised that the team new so many of the various options that could be run out of that set

“It ain’t the Xs and the Os, it’s the Jimmys and the Joes.”

I love watching the nuances of hoops, but there are a ton of ways to be successful. Simply put, the most common way is simply by having better players than the opponent.

It was not until they played the video showing how the triangle worked that I finally understood it after all these years.

The 90s were a great time to be a kid. Obviously, growing up in the Chicago suburbs, everyone wanted to be like Mike. I still have the basketball hoop in my driveway.

You can look at it another way, MJ NEVER won a championship without the Tri, Phil Jackson and Pippen.

I don't think he wins it without Pippen. And Jackson ended up being the perfect coach for him, mainly because he got MJ to share the ball more. The triangle offense was part of that. It definitely helped other guys get buckets. But it didn't really help Jordan. During the first threepeat, he scored the same ways he had for years (breaking the defense down off the dribble). He did, though, score more out of the triangle set during the last few years, mainly because they often played Jordan at power forward on offense. He got to play the mid or high post position on the triangle sets that Grant and Cartwright occupied in earlier years. The last few years, it was Longley, Rodman, and mostly Jordan or Pippen that played that spot. When MJ was in that spot, he shot a lot more than the other players playing that spot in the offense

Watching The Last Dance, I appreciate how much the game has changed in 20 years. The Pistons teams would not be successful in today's NBA. That said, they were a great foil for Jordan. Regarding the Triangle Offense, it was ahead of it's time, but times have changed. Now, we have 7 foot centers taking 25 foot 3 pointers.
