Surprised by the lack of love for Harrah's/Flamingo. They remind me of what Vegas may have been like a long time ago and kept those touches. I have a very soft spot for the Flamingo. This was my go-to place in my 20's when I was unable to get comps, BUT got the rooms for as low as $15-30 a night (AND NO RESORT FEES!!!).

Strangely enough, by the time I got comps, there were resort fees, hmmm....... :rolleyes2:

Even with the comps+resort fees, we kept staying at the Flamingo until our choices expanded.

Maaaaaaaaaaaaaybe I am the only person, but the Flamingo's lobby from the parking garage reminded me some of the hotels we stayed for Disney World when I was a kid...

The Linq. I just find the whole place extremely obnoxious. That's the best way I can think of to describe it. Doesn't help that I *never* win.

The Linq is one of those places that you either love or hate, I think. No middle ground. The best way I heard it described was that it is the 'test kitchen' for CET. It is the place they try all their new ideas out to see if they work or not and want to implement them at other places.

I was talking to a Bally's team member in March and we started to chat about the Cromwell. He descibed it as the "vampire" property (his words) of CET. Not sure what he meant but it sure is different than the other CET joints in town.

Guess he could have meant it sucks up all the money the others make? I don't know. Every time I am in there it seems pretty busy at the tables and enough people at the slots to make money. The rooms are higher priced than anywhere but Ceasars but they don't have a lot so I would think it makes money for them.

I do not like MGM. Some of the folks seem a little snooty.

I have some places that I just downright despise:

Luxor - I lost like $50 to a snooty BJ dealer on my first trip in 2008 and I have hated this place ever since. It is a cut through to Mandalay Bay only and I refuse to ever spend (lose) money there.
Excalibur - On the above trip, this is where we stayed. Four guys in their 20's in one regular room. Kill me. The hallways smelled like piss and the casino is always questionable at best. And I always lose there - hard pass for this guy.
Monte Carlo/Park MGM - MC always felt like it was trying to be way too snooty for what it was, and it smelled like the inside of a sewer pipe for YEARS. Park is just cold and seems to lack any identity altogether aside from being a painted MC.
Mirage - This is one that I continuously try to like but always seem to be disappointed in my ability to find a table/machine that I want to play. That it was THE inflection point for Vegas when it opened in 1989 and it's prominent role in one of my favorite pre-Vegas trip rituals, watching Vegas Vacation, always makes me want to keep trying to like this place. But it just isn't happening.
TI - weird layout, bizarre identity, I just feel out of place
Circus Circus - I just can't go here...I always felt like I was going to walk away with a disease (and now I might!)
Harrahs - another one I try to like. It was my late grandmother's home base for years - she loved it there. And I try every trip to play a $20 in her honor in a dollar slot (try to find an old school Double Diamond with reels) and every time I'm muttering to myself "w. t. f. with this stupid casino!?" as I walk out!
Casino Royale - another place where I feel diseased just walking in and out of it

Although we stay at Ballys every year we hardly gamble there except in the morning before we hit the pool. Me personally I will list the places I play most often and forget the rest, my favorites Bellagio, Aria, Planet Hollywood, Gold Coast, Cromwell, Paris and Mirage. The casinos that give me a weird feeling is Harrahs, Linq and Flamingo. I don't know what it is but I feel uncomfortable in those places. If I am near the Wynn I will drop a few dollars but refuse to spend a penny in the Venetian.

At this point, I'd stay at Oyo or Casino Royale.

While there are places I would never stay at and don't play at, I miss every single one of them.

Cromwell ADR for the rooms plus Drais make a ton. Not sure the floor does that amazing, but it's about 12 sq ft.

The linq is very, very different from much of what is around it. Personally, for what it is, I like the place a lot. But, I can see not liking the tiny rooms, the volume level, and the fact that it's not terribly large on the gaming floor (many of the old IP things, like numerous restaurants and sports book, were above the first floor and are no longer in use)

The part of Linq that I dislike is O'Sheas. It's awful. The only good part is frozen Bailey's. O'Sheas was a low roller joint. Now it's a closet full of games with table mins that are triple what they were at O'Sheas with a band playing at 140 decibels. O'Sheas had unique offerings and charm in the past - it was unique compared to what was around it. Now it's a poorly done theme bar.

Just curious. I have never been to the Rivers Casino. Is it worse than the Grand Victoria Casino in Elgin? I would find that hard to believe but may be true.

    Short answer: Most definitely.

Although it's been a number of years since I've been to Grand Victoria, I did not perceive each machine to be a blatant $20 bill eater! At Rivers, the $20s went **POOF** in a few minutes with no significant hits at all.

It's better than GVC because it's newer with better food, but that's it. GVC is still a riverboat, whereas Rivers isn't.. but they both squeeze in slots really tight. *bad joke here*

How optimistic.. GVC is a bill eater just like Rivers.

    My bankroll disagrees! :)

However, in my not so humble opinion, if you're going tto Grand Victoria, it's much better to drive a bit more over to Harrah's Joliet, or better yet, Horseshoe Hammond!

Don't have an exact reason. But I don't care for the Linq and Aria.

I just cannot get on with TI - just seems dark, cramped and has ceilings that are too low.. plus I miss the sirens show. I still pop back in every couple of years just to make sure though :)
