First movie you saw in a theatre?

I think "Return of the Jedi" at the dollar 2nd run theater house might be the first one I remember. Also "Beverly Hills Cop" a little later on.

They unfortunately caught on fire last year and they are repairing. They wrote this recently though, which I thought was funny.

 

1969 I was 9. I remember it well because my Mother took me to a different town about an hour away from our little burb and we sat next to a man she seemed to know but I didn't. Yes, true story. Is why I remember it so plus the movie was all about sex. I think she truly did not know the theme of the movie or obviously care. I do recall her going to cover my eyes once or twice. Later I wondered if it was to hide something from me that was going on in the movie or was it something in the seats next to me goings-on.

1981 - An American Werewolf In London ... my Mom says she thought I'd sleep, I was 6. The main character's name is David, so is mine ... NO SLEEP !!! The visual effects & makeup were nuts, David looking in the mirror with most of his face missing. My Mom is/was a little out there. I still love terrible (& good, IMHO) Werewolf movies ... The Howling's, Underworld's, even Teen Wolf ... not to mention Dog Soldier's & The Wolfman (newer) ... so much cooler than weak vampires

This was mine also. My aunt and uncle took my brother and I to see it.

 

My dad took me to see The Great Race at Radio City Music Hall. Then went to Horn & Hardardt automat for lunch

Interesting. When I saw the title of this thread, I was expecting all Disney cartoons. But alas:

The good old days, when phrases like "whacking material" were innocuous enough to warrant a PG rating. I believe we saw it in the theater also when I was about 8 and I loved every minute of it.

My parents have always watched a lot of movies, and I don't remember the first one they took me to. I think for my 5th birthday party we went to some movie about a dog and I could not have been less interested, so we skipped the second half of the movie and went to the party room for cake and presents.

The first movie I really remember choosing to go to and enjoying was Star Wars. It had been in the theaters for about 6 months and I had been begging my parents to take me for all of that time, but they are not the kind of people who would go see Star Wars. Finally my mom schlepped me out to the last theater it was still playing at, which felt like an hour long drive but probably wasn't, and it was everything I had hoped for.

I've seen Star Wars several times since, and it's the only science fiction movie I've ever really liked.

I'm pretty sure it was one of the Godzilla movies, but can't remember which one. What I do remember is getting candy out of the machine for a nickel.

The Poseidon Adventure

 

While I can't remember which one I saw first, I **LOVED** all (most) of the classic Disney films, particularly the animated ones. 101 Dalmatians (original animated version) had to be my fave, but loved the classical fairy tale ones (Snow White, Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty etc.) very much. I appreciated Fantasia more as a young adult. I remember particularly liking (the original) Parent Trap and Summer Magic.

What amazed me, however, was I always thought that the Disney animated films were newly-released when I was young. I found it hard to believe that our parents saw things like Snow White and Pinocchio when they were young(er).

Now I very vaguely remember seeing Song Of The South when I was very young and my dad had the Harris book of the "Br'er" tales and characters. I then saw it again as a young adult and remember being very critical of it.

 

I believe it was Bambi and I didn’t watch the what the whole thing. I think I cried a lot and my brother took me back to mom. And I think I was crying not because of the movie but because I wanted to be with mom. This was 1964 or 1965?
