First, Sonya, thanks for the daily updates on COVID.

I found the bit about commercial v consumer usage/availability to be, well, kinda smelly. Certainly the two distribution networks are different, but if the production isn't off it shouldn't take that long to divert that output to retail distribution. What am I missing?

Here is the TP part I put in today's news dump:

And for those of you angry at your neighbors for the lack of availability of toilet paper, here's a different perspective about why shelves are empty. I found it really interesting. I know my husband and I were joking early on that he'd need to go down to the local park to use their bathroom so we don't run out of TP. I guess we were't that far off. Until they closed the park bathrooms to encourage social distancing.

It's in the article. Apparently commercial TP and retail TP are different products. In our homes, we want the fluffy soft Charmin or Angel Soft. Commercial is usually a lesser quality (non-virgin products, single ply, etc).

Here's the part of the article that addresses this:
I know some takeout places are including a roll of commercial TP with food orders, as an incentive. :haha: I'm not sure I'd want that sandpaper TP, but if I was out, I'd welcome a handful of leaves I guess. :)

But if the average household is using 40% more TP, because they aren't pooping at work, demand is going to be higher. I presume it will even out at some point. I know our Costco has the giant bales available, but now are limiting to one 36-pack per shopper.

But once the quarantine is over, will you need to get your squares of TP from the barista at Starbucks so they can maintain their supply of the commercial stuff?

Gonzo rolls. I get that. But they still wipe. ;) Can't and not-as-convenient are different animals. And if a car maker can switch to ventilators and a dental-implant company can switch to hand sanitizer (local example) you'd think a paper products company could re-toll to smaller rolls.

Hadn't thought of that explanation before @Sonya but it makes sense.

Georgia Pacific also makes a high % of copy paper. Anyone tried looking for that lately? I went to 3 different stores, before I could find copy paper in stock. ( WalMart / Staples / Office Depot)

Maybe that's why when I went to pick up some copy paper, the shelves were kind of sparse. Maybe the pulp is being used for TP?

Toilet paper is made 30 miles from me, and I need a court order to get some.

I learned to embrace the sandpaper. Sure, the soft stuff is like wiping with a kitten, but one roll is gone in a couple decent poops!

Honestly how complicated can it be to get commercial rolls into supermarkets? There's a factory and a truck and warehouse and a truck and then another warehouse and then another truck. Send either the first or second truck to a different warehouse than usual. Use computers or something.

About 7 years ago, a salesman from Quill walked in: "Boy do I have a deal for you"

Two cases of TP for $60. I bought them, a deal is a deal.

So they are delivered, The boxes were 5'x3'x3' filled with individual wrapped rolls. My wife took one wipe and said "they are all yours"

Call it what you will, a shitload, a buttload, or just a load of TP, but I'm finally down to the last six rolls. $60 for 7 years of TP.

My ass isn't going to know what to think when that Cottonelle hits it for the first time.

So yeah, I believe that article.

I would still manage to leave the last 4 squares, so the wife would have to change it!

I buy 901-16640 for work. It doesn’t get too many complaints as an Angel Soft product. Since we have specialized pricing it’s 35.21 vs a bit over 40. It appears to be back in stock today but I did check w work and we have 4 cartons (2 hidden). So they sb good for a while. Even though most are still working on site, the public restroom is closed. Even before the panic the spare rolls would disappear at times.

I’m still not able to really get hand sanitizer. And with a necessary business dealing directly with the public I’d really like to get them some more. One of the girls was going to make it but our WM didn’t have any alcohol the times she has checked.

For some reason we have 2 types of of TP at work from the same manufacturer (GP). My friend calls them John Wayne and Rambo. One he says, you have to be a man to use. The other leaves you bleeding..... I’ll let someone else figure out the match game.
