The difference in how some casinos handled this is stark. Wow. Hopefully they will update Wynn's latest, which is ALL employees being paid through Mid-May, which should have it, given how this person is grading, at an A+.

Very very interesting to read... I'm not very familiar with the term "furlough" what exactly does that mean?

Its kind of like job purgatory. You haven't been fired, but you aren't needed so your employer is basically freezing your employment. You don't show up to work and you don't get paid, but the idea is you will return when your services are needed again.

Guess I'll give Sheldon a few shekels next trip, too.

I know he hates online poker, and is vindictive towards that. However, the fact he is doing the right thing here is much more important.

My understanding, for the Vegas casinos that are using the term, they mean that employees are no longer getting paid, but theoretically they will return to their jobs once the casinos are reopened. Also, they are able to access their medical benefits through June and use accumulated PTO (vacation time) to cover the days they are unable to work.

Also depends on what type of furlong/how company’s words on letter, so if you got furloughed from a employer depends on what is said on letter you may or may not qualify for unemployment! Here in Michigan, since we have so many manufacturing job related; I heard few ppl couldn’t qualify for unemployment benefits because way company “word” the letter, so some of the company had to re write the letter so ppl could qualify for unemployment benefits.

Over here in the UK those furloughed currently means the government paying 80% of their Wages up to a maximum of £2500 per calendar month with the actual employer choosing if they want pay the extra 20% or not all in the effort that people have a job to go back to.

Same here in the Netherlands, the goverment used to cover 70% but they now cover 90% and its normal for the employer to cover the last 10%.

It's complicated. Furlough means you're still "employed", but not paid and not expected to work. You're able to apply for unemployment, and many companies have said they won't contest it but it's unclear what the state is going to do. You also generally retain some sort of e-mail access (for more senior people, this is important), but technically speaking, if you're furloughed and even just check your email, you're technically able to claim pay for the week. Which most people probably won't do, as they'd rather spend 5 minutes on email to try to stay on top of issues, especially while legislatures and regulators are still operational, but nobody knows.

Being laid-off means that you're definitely eligible for unemployment, but on-boarding (things like mandatory training), as well as what'll happen with union seniority rules, are very unclear.

Bottom line, there are very few people who know how this is going to play out.

Thx for the explanation on furlough.. much more clear now... I'm thinking in something similar here in Mexico but I believe there isn't.. here some of the employers are "agreeing" with their employees 1,2 or up to 4 weeks of no work but paying just a percentage of their salary.. tipically from 50% up to 75%... but it's a company-employee agreement.. better than being laid off..

    Interesting read.

I'm a little confused by the listings about MGM compared to Excalibur. I would have imagined that all employees of MGM managed properties get the same communications.

And disappointed to read how, a VMB-favorite, Cosmopolitan, reportedly handled things.

Great article ! Note to myself that when (hopefully) I'm back over in September, to cancel the 'Cosmo' day of eating, drinking and gambling and instead have a 'Venetian' day giving them my business instead.

Havent set foot in a Vegas Sands property in years however I'll make a special trip to Venetian/Palazzo next time I'm in town to show support for them doing the right thing as long as possible. In defense of the other companies most are highly leveraged and dont have the financial flexibility to pay employees for 2-3 months. I get it.
